Episode 66 -- Exactly Nothing
Spent the weekend trying to get this done, and Hiber-Nation done, and what did I accomplish? Exactly nothing. That nasty political issue that I've been so depressed about, a big part of the problem leading to "executive dysfunction." As far as you know.IDSL Feature: "64th Time" from American Rust. My conclusions about Vachel Lindsay, and why that's gonna be what it's gonna be.Just cause I can: "Chocolate Rain" from Tay Zonday. Episode 65 -- The Principle of the Thing

NEW AND IMPROVED! Now includes an audio file with Actual Audio Inside! (Which the originally posted copy didn't. Sorry about that, 3 in the morning...)Part 1 -- Fans and Friends.Twittering. A rescue from being stranded, via Twitter & Skype. Possible interviews. Probably no more Stickam.Part 2 -- Back to WorkGoing from part time to full time, for a while. Episode 62 -- Alarums and Excursions
Part 1 -- A Little Too LiveTried starting a Live Feed on Stickam with the guys from the 535 York podcast, without knowing what I was doing, and ended up with a mob scene. All my own fault.IDSL: Rich B Tracks -- 4 Minutes of ElectroPart 2 -- A Long Way from DisneyReview of Seth Harwood's so-named short story collections on Podiobooks.com. With the Promo.IDSL: The Kissing Farries -- 420 Depletion (So, what the heck is a 420?)Part 3 -- Paper or Plastic? It seems I might end up doing some job hunting. Not a good activity.Nobilis' PSAIDSL: Trout -- 45Themes: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, "Continue Life" from Kevin MacLeod
Episode 61 -- What Goes Around Comes Around
Very little Karaoke, mostly a podcast about the podcast. And pretty young blond ladies.Part 1 -- Comments and ResponsesA PSA from Nobilis, about feedback on podcasts. A little pathetic whining by me in agreement. Seth Harwood's visit. Mentioned the "Aspie Quiz," which come to think of it, I -didn't- mention on the last show.Part 2 -- Amazing TimesTalk about many, many downloads (194 so far!!), and hitting the top of Society podcasts at Podcast Pickle -- which lasted a day. Turns out the NPR Show, "Talk of the Nation," the only more popular show in the genre, is a two hour show. And they podcast the first and second hours as separate episodes. So they get twice as many downloads per actual show they do. Hard to compete on the math alone. A brief Tune about Barack Obama from TR Kelley and the Raventones. Part 3 -- Books and BillsA few new things I did to become a shameless, wealthy podcasting profiteer, namely the Amazon Affiliate stuff I added (including links to all the books I've reviewed that are now available on Amazon.com. Going to add the music, too, where available). Not wealthy yet, though.Part 4 -- Almost Cut My HairHair's getting big and shaggy. Sang part of the David Crosby song. Sorry about that. Maybe a crewcut would be nice for the summer? How about losing the gray beard, too? And job hunting, probably. From the It Doesn't Suck list, "40th Floor" from American Gypsy.Themes: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, and "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod.
Hiber-Nation 3 -- Biography of a Grizzly 1.4 and 1.5
Amazon: The Biography Of A Grizzly Stories from the Hiber-Nation 3: "Biography of a Grizzly," by Ernest Thompson Seton, Part 1, Chapters 4 and 5. Wahb starts getting his growth, getting bigger than some old enemies, and getting smart about some new dangers. But it's still dangerous out there in the wild. End of Part 1.Themes: "Continue Life" and "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 60 -- Deus Ex Machina
Part 1 -- The Soul of a New MachineMy new Dell laptop, which is why I didn't manage a show last weekend.Part 2 -- Everybody Knows ThatMy confused ramblings on "Theory of Mind."Part 3 -- That Vision ThingReviews of Seth Harwood's "Jack Palms 3," and Alan David Justice' "Communion of the Saint," with the promo for the latter.Part 4 -- Bear With MeThe new "Stories of the Hiber-Nation" feed, with comments on comments from an Ernest Thompson Seton website.Part 5 -- Sixty, Sixty, Sixty! This is Episode 60, but not my 60th episode, really. It Doesn't Suck List: "3:1", from Jared J Stulen of Minneapolis MN.Themes: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, and "Continue Life" from Kevin MacLeod.
My Results from the Aspie Quiz
In case any of you have wondered where I got the idea I have Asperger Syndrome, attached are the results of an online "Aspie Quiz" I took today. Don't know the specific authority of the quiz, but the questions are the ones usually answered anyway. There are a couple of other worthwhile quizzes online, also. Not like my answers are liable to be a secret anyway; I've talked enough about this stuff on the show, now haven't I?
Hiber-Nation 2 -- Biography of a Grizzly 1.2 & 1.3
Amazon: The Biography Of A Grizzly Stories from the Hiber-Nation 2, "Biography of a Grizzly," by Ernest Thompson Seton, Part 1, chapters 2 and 3. Wahb faces tragedy, and meets his enemies -- seemingly everybody.Themes: "Continue Life" and "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod.
Hiber-Nation 1 -- Biography of a Grizzly 1.1
Amazon: The Biography Of A Grizzly The beginning of "Biography of a Grizzly," by Ernest Thompson Seton. An old book, but I thought it appropriate for the first show in the "Stories from the Hiber-Nation" feed. Why "Hiber-Nation?' Because I was so proud of thinking of it, of course, even though it doesn't seem to mean anything in particular. It's actually kind of sad in spots, especially if you like bears. Think Bambi with 3-inch claws.Theme: "Continue Life" from Kevin MacLeod.Comments encouraged. Any idea how often I should post these? I've got the first three shows recorded already -- if no one objects, I'm setting them up for every Thursday, at the moment. I can change that later, if you'd like, though...
Episode 59 -- Executive Dysfunction
I had three different podcasts to finish this weekend. I finished one, barely. And that was a bigger accomplishment than you might expect.Part 1 -- The Dog Ate My PodcastOne of the "joys" of ASD is what's called Executive Dysfunction. I want to get it done, I know I can do it well, I understand exactly what to do ... but I can't take that first step. It can seem similar to a lot of things, but it ain't. That first step is a doozy!Part 2 -- Playing for KeepsMy review of Mur Lafferty's audiobook, "Playing for Keeps." Definitely worth listening to.Part 3 -- Sorry About ThatMy apologies for letting you down. Again. I'll get 'em done soon. Probably. I hope.Themes "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod.IDSL: "35-494" from Howlround, out of Redwing MN.
Episode 58 -- Popular Delusions
People believe all kinds of things, mostly because other people believe them, too. And then there's the fish.Part 1 - From the Preface"Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds," by Charles Mackay.Part 2 - Fish is Brain Food -- Isn't it?Part 3 - It Gets Worse -- Autism and FishPart 4 - This is Life -- Seth Harwood's book, Jack Palms II.Part 5 - Stories? Where's my Stories? -- No, really, they're coming soon.IDSL -- Joel Johnson, "3 Seconds."Themes: 140 Times from Bob Baldwin, Sovereign from Kevin MacLeod.
043008CLCO.mp3
Episode 57 -- Purpose and Re-Purpose
Probably the most brilliant podcast ever recorded. Not. But busy, busy, busy! Still limping, but more quickly now. And soon to be a member of A.A.R.P. (sigh)Part 1 - IngredientsWhat alla them extra coffee cups are for.Part 2 - Jack Wakes UpMy review of Seth Harwood's Podiobook novel. Not the new one, his first, that everyone's already heard. But I liked it.Part 3 - HistoryA recap of the flurry of activity around Episode 56, "Duluth!" especially on PerfectDuluthDay. The fun discussion of Episode 55, "Grizzly Goes Wild!" MySpace URLs. Cameras. A voice comment from Matt Selznick, and a promo for his re-started podcast, "Sonitotum." IDSL feature, "3" from "Conditioned Response."Themes: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, and "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 56 -- Duluth!
The famous J Proctor Knott speech about Duluth, Minnesota, my home town. I sprained my ankle the other day, hadn't listened to any new audio books, and already had this handy for C.T. under previous plans. Here's links to the original speech: from somebody's website, and from the Congressional Globe, the official source from those days.IDSL Feature: "34 Miles" from Mark Throne and the Fingerprints. Who is it this guy sounds like?Theme "140 Times" from Rock On.Sorry about the pops and what-not. Lost that little foam rubber thingie goes over my Samson Zoom H2. Wonder if I can buy another one somewhere? Might have to make my own.
Episode 55 -- Grizzly Gone Wild!
A little strange, as my shows go.Part 1 - Interview with Alicia after she won a contest sponsored by "Girls Gone Wild." Was kind of a surprise to me, too!Part 2 - The rest of the show, recorded with K.M.A. Karaoke DJ Jon B and the rest of the regulars, after Friday night Karaoke at the Androy. Includes my first unfavorable Podiobook review, of Tracy Hickman's "The Immortals." Given the book's been out for ten years, and Tracy Hickman is a bestselling author, I doubt his career will be significantly effected. ;-) Included the promo, by the way.IDSL feature: "2nd Sunday" from Ryan Weddle Protocol.NEW THEME MUSIC: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin & Rock On.
Episode 54 -- Stormy Weather
Part 1 -- So How About That Weather?Self-explanatory, right?Part 2 -- MoreviMy utterly unnecessary review of the original "Morevi: The Chronicles of Rafe and Askana." They're doing a remastered version now, but I wanted to get the review done, so...Part 3 -- Under ConstructionTinkering with Changeling Turkey, Facebook, and Twitter. Too many distractions, but it's kinda fun."It Doesn't Suck" list: A tune from Charlie Ray Glasgow of 10 States, Minnesota called "2nd Hand Heart."Theme music still from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 53 -- The Long Walk Home
Part 1 -- I Smoke WrongI've smoked for 24 years, two packs a day, and I'm apparently not addicted to nicotine. Go figure.Part 2 -- WastelandMy review of "Wasteland," the latest book/season in Mur Lafferty's "Heaven" podcast novel series on Podiobooks.com. Had to kinda review the whole series to make sense of it, though.Part 3 -- Drunks & Crazy PeopleI take a long walk home. Twice. From the "It Doesn't Suck" List: Featuring "20 Years" from Shaan Sharma, out of Minneapolis Minnesota. One of the prettiest Alternative Rock songs I've heard a long time.Themes are still from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 52 -- Strange Days Indeed
Part 1 -- Employment WantedI've been thinking about work. I'm a telemarketer, and for me, that's a special sort of hell.Part 2 -- Silly MeAs I've mentioned, I can't always tell if people are kidding me. Contrary to the impressions some people have, that doesn't mean I'm stupid. Just a bit trusting maybe, and often confused, certainly. But not stupid.Part 3 -- Strange Days IndeedAt Champs, people behaved very strangely to me. I didn't get angry or upset about it. It just slid off me, like water off a ducks back, as they say.And a little bit at the end about money.Featured from the iDSL: "20 Degrees" from Jeb Nome, on Garage Band.Theme music from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 51 -- That's Showbiz!
Part 1 -- A Little Too Big a Celebrity -- Trying to hear people talking to me in noisy places, including the drunk guy who said something about a "stalker."Part 2 -- Chow Time -- The wine tasting at Champs, and karaoke again. Meeting another pretty girl. Ah, the life of a star.Part 3 -- The Geek in the Corner -- playing with my computer in bars, or reading. Unusual, but it's something to do.IDSL Feature, "2 Step" from "$Muny Getta$" on Garageband.Theme Music from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 50 -- Gang Aft Agley
I did have a great plan. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten one important factor. Oh, well. Did manage to do two interviews. Toady, the Karaoke DJ from Champs, and a young fella named Mike. What's Karaoke like for a guy who can't stand noise or crowds much?My review of "Billibub Baddings and the Case of the Singing Sword," by Tee Morris. A hard-boiled detective novel, with a little sex, violence, magic, gangsters, gals, and guns. And it appears, sequels. Which is a very good thing.Featuring "Get Good and Gone," from Owen Poteat -- Get well soon. And "2 of 7" from "Company Incorporated," which Doesn't Suck.Too bad the Big 50 Plan didn't work out. Maybe next year?Theme music from Kevin MacLeod. (But watch this space...)
Episode 49 -- For Old Times Sake
I've been hearing from old friends from Blackthorne Repertory Theatre lately, which is pretty cool. Amazing how this Internet search stuff works. Didn't know anybody'd even be searching, much less finding such stuff. Got my first donation today! So now the show is officially "Sponsored by Donations from People Like You," just like the big guys. And, while I'd somewhat lost heart, I'm told my show "has heart," even though I still don't know what the darn thing's about. Today, it's about 30 minutes...Did a brief review of "Nina Kimberly the Merciless," by Christiana Ellis. Kinda funny, but also sad and touching in some ways. Maybe that's just me? Recommended.Featuring "Don't Wake Me Please" by Owen Poteat. Very pretty.Theme music from Kevin MacLeod, as per usual.
Episode 48 -- No, Not So Much
Found on Podcast Pickle I had messages from 14 New Fans! Oh, really? No, not so much, they appear to be fake. What's up with that? Also, my take on "South Coast: A Shaman's Tale from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper," by Nathan Lowell. Good book, kind of "old school," but in a good way. I've missed this kind of writing, and I'm glad to see it come back.Featuring from the "It Doesn't Suck" list, "1913 Arms" from Porcelain Frogs (Elevations).Theme music from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 47 -- Teaching
After watching "School of Rock," with Jack Black, I had the thought, "Dang, I wish I'd become a teacher." Probably a bad idea for a number of reasons, but even so.By the way, "186,000 Miles per Second" from "The Late" officially Doesn't Suck, now. Congratulations!Theme music from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 46 -- Hans in Luck
Another story from the Brothers' Grimm, "Hans in Luck." And my opinions on the story, for the little they're worth. I think it went rather well, though.I ran into someone at the Androy the other day who'd apparently heard the last story, and thought "You'd be great with kids." I think I'd be terrible with kids, not that I wouldn't try hard. I'm much more comfortable with microphones & computers & such.Any opinions on how the whole storytelling thing is going, folks? I'm enjoying it, and I do hope you are.Themes: "Continue Life," "Sovereign" and "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 45 -- The End of The Golden Bird
I finally finished "The Golden Bird." Sorry it took me so long. And I even critiqued the story a bit. Don't know how much sense it makes to do a review of a story several centuries old. That's just how I roll.Themes: "Continue Life," "Sovereign" and "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 44 -- Jon B and Me
My second attempt at recording with someone else, but my first with the new Zoom H2. Jon B and I rambled on marginally coherently after a night of drinking. I gather some people find such shows entertaining. Anyway, it was cool to try out the new hardware, and I've wanted to record with Jon for a while. Good friend, good D.J.I originally thought, that he might be losing his job, but now I think something different is happening. Oh, well, I'd been drinking, my judgement was impaired.Theme music from Kevin MacLeod
Episode 43 -- Some days, you eat the Bear...
Some days, you eat the bear, and some days, the bear eats you. Anyway, tried something new... and oddly enough, the episode # was 42. The answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything. And my answer got cut off before I finished. Which is a shame.Because at the end of the show, I explained the answers to every question you have ever asked or will ever ask, but now you missed it, so you're doomed to live in a miasma of confusion and self-doubt.But it's not my fault, it's Libsyn's fault. Unless it's my fault, in which case, it's probably someone else's fault. But not mine. As far as you know, officially.Glad we've got that settled.New Intro! "Continue Life" from Kevin MacLeod.iDSL Feature: "140 Times" from Rock On. Wonder if they'd mind if I used their song as my new show Theme?
Episode 42 -- The Golden Bird
Got the new hardware, so I'm doing something new. Here's a story from the Brother's Grimm Fairytales, called "The Golden Bird." Boy I love telling stories. Gotta do more of that.Theme "Hot Swing," intros and outtros "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod. And, by the way, that's all.
Episode 41 -- Activism, Inspiration, and Identity
After 40 episodes, so what is this show about? Well, it's about ten minutes. I could make it about Activism, but I'm not much of an activist. I am inspired by small and random things, of importance only to me, mostly. And after all this time, has the show found an identity? Have I?From the "It Doesn't Suck" List -- Featuring: "12" from halo effect out of Minneapolis.Theme: "Hot Swing," and background "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod.Meaningless drivel by Me.
Episode 40 -- Performance Anxiety
I've learned from experience that other people can learn from experience. Go figure, huh?I reminisce about my days in Blackthorne Repertory Theatre, which is not a band off in England somewhere. Well, it is, but this ain't them, they ain't Repertory. As far as I know.Finished "Children of the Old Stars," by David Lee Summers. Looking forward to the next book in what's turning out to be an excellent series. Started "South Coast," by Nathan Lowell; good so far.GBIDSList Featuring: "(So far) Off Broadway," by Jon James.Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod
Episode 39 -- Opportunity Knocks
I'm in discussions to host the next season of another podcast, "Five Minute Memoir," the concept of which I love. But I'm still not convinced it's something I should do. Probably. Maybe? I dunno. Sure, yeah. Hmmm...Featuring from the "It Doesn't Suck" list: "100 Years" by 21 SheridanTheme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 38 -- You're Everywhere!
Just some talk about how amazing it is that people from so many different places come here and listen. Hello there!Promo: "The Pirates of Sufiro," by David Lee Summers.Featuring: "Heaven Was Never Far Away," from Burgess Norrgard.Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod
Episode 37 -- My Red Ryder B-B Gun
I am supposed to be getting One Big Thing for Christmas -- a bit late -- which I hope can be a Samson Zoom H2 Handy Recorder. Why do I want one so badly? Cause for me, this is "an official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time." (Jean Sheperd, "A Christmas Story") Wish I'd done the Web search before recording the show, I coulda used that line. These days we have Blogs and Podcasts to hint at Christmas gifts. :-)Featuring, from my GarageBand "It Doesn't Suck" list: "(last of the) Rockstars" by "Molly Gets Confused."Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod. Please fill out our audience survey!
Episode 36 -- Voices for Voices
I tone down my attitude on authors reading their own audio books. But I think some things could be better, sometimes.Featuring: "(heart like a) Phantom Limb" by The Bee FamilyTheme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeodPlease fill out our audience survey!
Episode 35 -- Daily? What Happened to Daily?
Finally back today, after all the holidays. Didn't manage to do the daily thing, so far, but I'm still trying. From Podiobooks: The 3rd book of the "7th Son" Trilogy is done, "Serve It Cold" is done. I Finished "Brave Men Run" last week. Just downloaded "South Coast," and a number of others. And my next project, eventually, I hope. Why I listen to "Polyamory Weekly," and you should, too, maybe. Probably. And no New Years' Eve for me. These things happen.Featuring: "(ensure you) Something Real" from Sonifide.Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod.
Episode 34 -- Every Day should be, um, Tuesday?
What I did and didn't do for Christmas. "The Reason(s) for the Season."Featuring: "'Til the Morrow" from Obadiah Brown-Beach on GarageBand.Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod Please fill out our audience survey!
