What Is God Like? | Faith in Action Through Setbacks
When we follow the lives of some of the key individuals in Scripture, we learn so much. We see faith in action . . . or sometimes we see a lack of faith in action. But the lessons are practical since they’re demonstrated by real people in real circumstances. Currently on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie is leading our study of David’s life. And today, we learn some things from David and another individual who crosses David’s path. It’s good encouragement for those who’ve had some setbacks. Don't Make Deals with the Devil | How Jesus Defines Our Value
How is a value determined? Whose opinion matters? Let’s say someone says their car is worth... $15,000. Is it worth that much? It’s only really worth that much if some PAYS $15,000. What’s our worth? There might be different opinions. But Jesus gave His life for us – that’s the price He paid. That’s what we’re worth. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us see ourselves through God’s eyes . . . we’ll see our worth. Don't Make Deals with the Devil | Seeking Justice
You would imagine the U.S. holds the distinction of being the most litigious country on earth, right? Actually, that dubious honor goes to Germany, but the U.S. isn’t far behind. When we’ve been wronged, so many want their day in court . . . they want to be made whole . . . they want someone to pay! What’s God’s heart on the matter? Pastor Greg Laurie answers that today on A NEW BEGINNING as we continue our practical studies of the life of David. Glad you’re along – good insight is coming our way. Jesus and the Brokenhearted | Sunday Message
Are you in a seemingly never-ending storm right now? God can break through the clouds. And that happens to be the story before us right now... Notes: Focus verse: Mark 5 A poor, helpless, hopeless woman found what she needed from Jesus. A man of status and prestige, a respected synagogue leaderfound what he needed from Jesus. Read Mark 5:21–29 The young girl had experienced 12 years of relative happiness. The sick woman had experienced 12 years of pain, rejection, and tears. Jairus realized his daughter was dying and he was in a race against time. Jairus believed Jesus could heal and save his daughter’s life with a touch.Mark 5:23 James 1:2–3 Tests are an opportunity to grow spiritually, to learn to trust God.Tests are not punitive but purposeful. Many people struggle and grow impatient with the Lord. Jesus does not ask us for our understanding of His ways or timing. He asks for our trust. The woman’s condition rendered her to be declared ceremonially unclean. She was penniless as she had spent everything on doctors.Mark 5:26 She desired a healing touch from Jesus and received it.She took hold of what God had for her. Read Mark 5:30–34 Read Mark 5:35–36 It was devastating for Jairus to hear, “…your daughter is dead.” Jairus had to choose which voice to listen to. When a loved one dies unexpectedly, we often blame ourselves. Life and death are in the hands of God not us. Jairus had humbled himself in coming to Jesus. Jesus was always ready and willing to receive and bless those that came to Him. The attitude of the individual determined Jesus’s response.Psalm 18:25–27 Unbelief laughs at God’s word, but faith believes and receives the miracle. Read Mark 5:41–43 To the woman who was healed Jesus said, “Daughter, be of good courage.” We see a failure; God sees a success. We see the past; God sees the future. We see a woman who is an outcast, Jesus sees a daughter. Jesus is ready to enter into your life and to change you. --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. How to Overcome Your Giants | Trusting God with Our Biggest Problems
God has never encountered a problem or a crisis too big for Him to handle. He’s never said, “Uh-oh.” So when we encounter something we can’t handle, we need to look to our God who can handle anything. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, as Pastor Greg Laurie returns to our studies of the life of David, we’ll see what happened when David faced a giant-sized problem. It’s a familiar story, but sometimes we miss the practical application. That’s Pastor Greg’s focus as we begin today’s study. The Man After God's Heart | Imperfect People, Remarkable Purpose
Some tend to think that God only uses perfect people . . . people with no blindspots, no failings, no shortcomings. But the more we study the Bible, the more we see how God used imperfect people to do remarkable things for His Kingdom. How can we be the kind of person God is looking for? Pastor Greg Laurie answers that today here on A NEW BEGINNING as we examine the life of a great leader of Israel who God chose personally, over and above other candidates who appeared more impressive. Jesus and the Outcast | Sunday Message
As a tax collector, Matthew was one of society's most looked down upon. But Jesus still called him to be His follower. Notes:Focus verse: Luke 5:27–32 #1 Jesus sees Matthew.Luke 5:27 Theaomai means to have an intent look at something, to take something in with one’s eyes, with implication that one is especially impressed, see, look at, behold. #2 Jesus sees you.2 Chronicles 16:9 The acceptance and inclusion of Matthew is a picture of the redeeming power of a relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus knows your story and He knows your potential. #3 Jesus calls us to see others.Luke 5:29–32 Jesus meets you where you are. 82% of non-believers would go to church if they were invited by a friend or family member. The miracle is that God called that person to Himself, and you were able to be an instrument in His hand. Jesus sees you. Angels and Demons | Exposing the Scams of Satan
Ever been the target of a scam? Many of us have, some without even realizing it. None of the scammers admit they’re trying to rip you off. They play upon your fear . . . or your kindness. They find a weakness or a vulnerability. Satan is like that, only he’s been practicing a lot longer. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie warns us about his tactics and strategies. Jesus and the Lonely Man | Sunday Message
Jesus was drawn to lonely people. And with the man at the Pool of Bethesda, we see just what he had to say to them. Dive further into their interaction we see in John 5 now. Jesus and the Moral Man | Sunday Message
Nicodemus was a highly intelligent, cultured, and moral individual. In this message, Pastor Greg Laurie breaks down his conversation with Jesus. It’s not one between rabbi and carpenter, but between God and man. Notes:Focus verse: John 2:23–3:16 We all want our lives to matter. Nicodemus was a highly intelligent, cultured, and moral individual. This is not a conversation between a rabbi and a carpenter. It is a conversation between God and man. Read John 2:23–25 Read John 3:3–10 Jesus saw in Nicodemus a man who was hungry for truth. Everyone is empty, lonely, and afraid to die. The true mark of spiritual growth and maturity is not feeling superior but humble. Nicodemus was the spiritual leader in Israel. Nicodemus came to Jesus by night. Better to have a weak beginning and a strong finish than the opposite. In the end, Nicodemus turned out to be one of the bravest followers of Christ. John 19:39 The great Nicodemus approached Jesus with great respect. Being born again is a supernatural act of God making a person spiritually alivewhen they were dead in sin. John 3:16–17 God loves you.John 3:16 God proved His love by sending His Son. God’s love is unconditional and universal. God’s gift of salvation is available for everyone who believes. To believe is to adhere to, to commit to, to have faith in, to rely upon, to trust in. Hope for Hurting Marriages, Part 1 | The Power of Commitment in Marriage
A noted author of children’s books said, “One advantage of marriage is that, when you fall out of love with him or he falls out of love with you, it keeps you together until you fall in again.” It’s true that relationships heat up and cool down over time. But marriage is the constant commitment that remains in place through it all . . . or should be. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out how to honor this commitment between a man and a woman and their God. Hope for Hurting Marriages, Part 1 | Is Divorce the Solution or Another Problem?
Remember Mr. Rogers? Yes, the “won’t you be my neighbor” Mr. Rogers? He was once quoted as saying, “For a couple with young children, divorce seldom comes as a “solution” to stress, only as a way to end one form of pain and accept another.” In our culture, divorce is often seen as the easiest path, or the one with less pain. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie wants to show you an alternative. We’ll see how God has a plan. A plan to give you hope. Hope for Those Facing Crisis | Through the Storm
Jesus told us to cast our cares upon Him. But He never said, “In this world ye shall have no problems.” The Bible tells us to be anxious for nothing . . . it doesn’t say you won’t have anything to be anxious about. When the disciples cried out to Jesus in the midst of the storm, it was a real storm! But today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie shows us how the Lord is with us in the midst of the storms of life. He may not deliver us from the storm but He will deliver us through the storm. Hope for Lonely Hearts | When Sex Becomes Destructive
Our culture says “wait to have sex . . . until the third or fourth date.” They say, before you marry someone, try living together for a while to see if it works out. Marriage as long as we both shall...live? No. Want. It’s pretty obvious that’s not the way God intended. Maybe that’s why half of marriages fail. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie gives the best advice there is. It doesn’t come from magazines or talk shows but from the inventor of marriage. Jesus and the Doubter | Sunday Message
Jesus never dealt with any two people in the same way. He is the perfect example of how we can connect with people in our world. So, what would He say to the doubter? Notes:Focus verse: Matthew 11 When Jesus walked this earth, He encountered many people, and He always had time for individuals. John the Baptist was not just significant but super-significant. John offered hope to the people, calling them back to God. John was fearless. He called out the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and professionally religious.Matthew 3:7–8 John baptized our Lord in the Jordan river and said,“He must increase, and I must decrease.” John’s job was to prepare the way for the Messiah. Read: Matthew 11:1-11 Before wearing “many crowns,” Jesus would wear the crown of thorns. Before the throne would come the cross. Doubt is not a sin. Sometimes we need to go through the foyer of doubt to get into the sanctuary of certainty. Moses was ready to quit. Elijah was ready to quit after Carmel and hearing Jezebel’s threats. Doubting Thomas wanted to know for himself what the others knew. The Apostle Paul was discouraged. John the Baptist had a troubled mind and a broken heart. Jesus responded with scriptures from the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah.Isaiah 35:5–6 / Isaiah 61 “God blesses those who do not turn away because of me.”Matthew 11:6 God never rebukes any who come to Him with sincere questions or honest doubts. Jesus used the opportunity to speak of John’s greatness.Matthew 11:1-8 It does not matter what others think of us or even what we think of ourselves. What really matters is what Jesus thinks about us. Matthew 11:11 John was a friend of the Bridegroom. We are the bride of the Bridegroom. Doubt is a matter of the mind. Unbelief is a matter of the will. Doubt has questions.Unbelief rejects answers. Jesus refocused John’s priorities. Jesus used Scripture and referred John back to the prophecies of the Messiah in Isaiah. Jesus kept on with His purpose and asked John to trust and follow. When we stand before God on that final day, we will realize that He never sat on his hands, they were nailed to the cross! --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. Hope for Lonely Hearts | The Problem with a Christian-Nonbeliever Relationship
In a rather popular movie, the lovelorn ingenue confesses, “I love him for the man he wants to be and for the man he almost is.” How many fiancees have high hopes for changing their man that “almost is.” Albert Einstein, of all people, said “Women marry men hoping they will change. Men marry women hoping they will not.” Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us discover the joy of marriage the way God intended. Hope for Lonely Hearts | God's Design For Marriage
Our culture has taken some liberties with marriage. It’s been redefined, re-envisioned, re-written and re-constructed. Sometimes it’s held out as a panacea . . . other times it’s ridiculed as a ball and chain. “Till death do us part” has come to mean “we’ll give it a try.” It’s no wonder there’s so much confusion about the institution. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie takes us back to God’s original plan for marriage. We’ll see He has some ideas on how it can succeed. Hope Is on the Way | Rediscovering Truth
Some comedians have stopped performing on college campuses. Why? Political correctness is more important than humor. And on some campuses, the biblical values we once held sacred are now considered hate speech. Look at TV. Curse words and innuendo flow freely, but traditional family values are deemed offensive.
