S15 Ep 345Delight in God’s presence through beauty and song | with Sandra McCracken

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM STEPHANIE:I want to share a special invitation with you. You may have heard that I will be releasing my first book with IVP on July 28, 2026. It’s a big deal and I am so overwhelmed with God’ goodness in allowing me to share such an essential message about delighting in Him as the true essential foundation for all our spiritual growth and maturing. Their conversation touches on various facets—from the linguistic richness of French expressions of delight and light, to the role of the local church and the importance of worship. Join us as we explore how experiencing God's beauty through nature, music, and community can deepen our spiritual journey.Sandra McCracken's songwriting serves as a rich medium to convey scriptural truths and draw us deep in worship through music. Her goal is to help people delight in God's presence through her music, creating songs that resonate with the heart's deepest longings. She shares how singing these truths repeatedly helps align her heart with them, even amid doubts or fears. Her work embodies the connection between light and delight, encouraging us to find joy and hope in God's presence.Let’s talk about beauty for a minute. In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, the perception of beauty can often become obscured. Sandra and Stephanie discuss the necessity of slowing down to truly appreciate and experience deeper, non-disposable beauty. Pausing to engage with our surroundings and community, allows us to witness God’s presence in the ordinary moments of life. By embracing this slower pace, we open ourselves up to deeper intimacy with God, finding beauty and inspiration in the everyday and the extraordinary alike.Beauty serves as a 'homing device,' drawing us toward God. Whether through the breathtaking landscapes of Yellowstone and Tetons or through the creative brilliance of European architecture, beauty reveals the hand of the divine in our world. Stephanie echoes this sentiment by highlighting how the unique expressions of beauty in different cultures enrich our spiritual experience, offering a fuller understanding of God's nature.During her visit to a botanical garden in Colorado, Sandra was struck by the diverse beauty of the garden, from the tall milkweeds to the fluttering butterflies. The process of pruning in gardening parallels life's trials. Just as a gardener prunes to encourage growth and beauty, God, the "master gardener," prunes us through life's challenges. Although this process can be uncomfortable, it is essential for our spiritual growth and transformation. Embracing this divine pruning allows us to develop into the people God intends us to be.The conversation takes a deeper turn as Sandra explores the concept of true beauty through the lens of the cross. The cross represents the epitome of humility, sacrifice, and power, embodying the ultimate beauty in the biblical narrative. Facing our brokenness within a community helps us understand and experience God's beauty in a transformative way. This vulnerability and honesty before God and one another reflect the beauty that comes from embracing our imperfections and relying on divine grace.Sandra invites us to consider how beauty, language, and community play pivotal roles in our faith journey. From the linguistic richness of French to Jesus’ teaching on pruning, Sandra encourages us to slow down, appreciate beauty, and engage deeply with our faith communities. Through her music and reflections, Sandra McCracken helps us find delight in God's light, inviting us into a richer, more authentic experience of God in Christ.MEET SANDRA MCCRACKENSandra McCracken is a GRAMMY-nominated and Dove Award-winning singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. The daughter of a biology teacher and a seminary secretary, Sandra was born the youngest of five children in a house with music continually streaming from the record player. A prol

S15 Ep 344Invite Jesus in your every day moments | Celebrating ordinary time and sabbath

In this episode in our “Come to the Table” series on the Jewish and Christian feasts, Stephanie reflects on the significance of ordinary time, the ordinary moments of life. They are the backdrop to our feast days. They are the bulk of our time. The present, nestled between special feasts, serves as a space where believers are called to live in anticipation of Jesus' return and seek God’s presence and delight in all moments. The question is, how did Jesus experience His own mundane and ordinary days? What does He wish to impart to us through them? So, Stephanie invites us to consider how the body of Christ functions during ordinary time, focusing on the importance of living in unity. This period of ordinary time is an opportunity for spiritual growth and for experiencing the lived reality of Jesus in everyday moments, celebrating the cyclical nature of the liturgical calendar. That word, liturgy. It can be ambiguous. Off-putting to some, attractive to others. Liturgy is simply the chosen flow of a service, or a day, or a life. It is how a particular local body of believers chooses to approach God, especially on Sundays but not only. It varies from church to church, with much to learn from the manifold practices of our brothers and sisters around the world. Stephanie’s extensive personal experience with various church traditions, including Anglican, charismatic, reformed, Pentecostal, and non-denominational, highlights the diverse ways in which different traditions approach worship and liturgical practices. Understanding the concept of liturgy as the way a particular tradition conducts its services, including prayers, readings, and rituals, is an invitation into the richness and diversity within the body of Christ.Ordinary time is characterized by its lack of special feasts, representing the ordered life of the church and a period of watchfulness for the second coming of Jesus. Divided into two seasons, ordinary time serves as a call to unity within the body of Christ, inviting believers to keep Jesus at the center of mundane routines.Within ordinary time, we have weekly min-feasts called Sabbaths. So, how did Jesus experience them? How do Sabbaths fit at the table of God’s Presence? Sabbath is associated with rest, refreshment, freedom, and joy, serving as a day of rest and a reminder of humanity’s co-partnership with God. Stephanie discusses Jesus' claim of authority over the Sabbath, highlighting how He emphasized its wholesome nature to be a source of blessing. The Sabbath is a time of rest and delight, providing a sacred space to experience God’s presence and embrace His joy.Today, we invite you to embrace the beauty of ordinary days, seek unity in the body of Christ, and live in hopeful expectation while finding rest and delight in the Sabbath. We invite you to cultivate a lifelong liturgy of delight in Christ, breathing new life into everyday moments as we journey towards the eagerly anticipated return of Jesus. Join us!OPTIONAL RESOURCE | Stephanie mentions the creation of a liturgy booklet designed to cultivate a lifelong liturgy of delight in Christ. This booklet consists of short liturgies for everyday moments, aiming to inspire you in building and nurturing a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. The liturgical year is presented as a means to grow in intimacy with Christ, providing an avenue to know Him more intimately in everyday life. Truly, when we delight in the Lord, He promises to give us the desires of our hearts – namely, more of Himself! So, here's the invitation. If you feel this message is indeed important, and you know people – including yourself perhaps – who need to be encouraged to awaken and cultivate their delight in God, would you consider joining my book launch team? It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!Today we discuss our sacred journey from mourning to joy, desolation to restoration. It is about the legacy of holy sorrow. In this new episode of our new series around the Jewish feasts, I invite you to travel into the historical and spiritual significance of Tisha B'Av, the 9th of Av in the Jewish calendar, and the hope it holds for the future. This day beckons us into a profound journey through grief, remembrance, and ultimately, hope. On the 9th of Av, also known as Tisha B'Av, the Jewish community commemorates the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem – not once, but twice. This day, while marked by deep mourning, also carries profound messianic overtones and a powerful message of hope.🕊️ The 9th of Av invites us to embrace history and Scripture in a fresh way: By understanding the observance of the 9th of Av and its deep-rooted historical significance, we gain a fresh approach to our study of Scripture and history. It's a reminder to look beyond ourselves and explore the rich tapestry of faith and culture. Ultimately, it points to Jesus in unique ways that can nourish and maybe even transform our faith towards deeper intimacy.🙏 It challenges us to find hope and patience in the midst of grief: The 9th of Av serves as a poignant reminder that grief is not forever and that there is always hope on the horizon. Sometimes it's challenging to see beyond personal struggles, but the day's significance encourages us to have patience and faith in understanding the deeper meanings of our studies.🔍 It gives us permission to seek transformation in tragedy: Despite the sorrowful nature of the day, Tisha B'Av reveals an inspiring message – even the most tragic events can be transformed into occasions of joy and glory. It's a powerful testament to the resilience and hope that stems from faith, reminding us of the promise of future restoration.WHAT IS THE 9TH OF AV?Tisha B'Av is a day of fasting in the Jewish calendar, symbolizing a time of lamentation and remembrance. It is a day when the Jewish people reflect on the tragedies and calamities that have befallen their community throughout history, particularly the destruction of the first and second Temples in Jerusalem. The 9th of Av isn't part of the Mosaic law but was instituted by the prophet Zechariah to commemorate the fall of Jerusalem. This day of mourning has deep historical and biblical roots, with connections to the Jewish exile and the prophet's message of hope and restoration.Mourning on the 9th of Av also serves as a reminder of the consequences of turning away from God and failing to see His promises. It's a day to reflect on the loss of the promised land, the destruction of the Temple, and the exile of the Jewish people. But amid the solemnity, there's a profound message of hope intertwined with the grief. The longing for the restoration of Jerusalem and the reconciliation of God with His people echo throughout history, pointing to a future where sorrow will be turned into joy and mourning into celebration in Christ. The depth of historical significance behind Tisha B'Av invites us to look beyond our own struggles and sorrow, acknowledging that even in the most tragic events lies potential for transformation and a promise of hope. It calls for faith in the understanding that God can lead us from grief to glory in Christ. So, as we reflect on the solemnity of Tisha B'Av, may we also hold onto the profound hope and promise of transformation we firmly possess in Christ Jesus. Throughout Scripture, we're reminded that even in the darkest times, God's power can turn mourning into joy and tragedy into triumph. 🌟Do you enjoy Gospel Spice? Then let's deepen our relationship! S15 Ep 341Finding fresh faith through God's people | with Jack Mooring

I have often found that, when I'm discouraged, or when I struggle to see things from the perspective that God might have on a situation, a relationship, maybe my own heart, I find it so useful to dig into Scripture and look at the stories of people in Scripture who may have experienced something similar. I also find that, beyond Scripture, it is useful to look at the lives of faithful men and women in history, saints who have really clung to God, and who have experienced so much of his goodness, his holiness, his beauty, his faithfulness, his kindness, his generosity. I love to spend time through biographies of these people of faith. I'm looking forward to meeting them in heaven and learning from them even more. Which means, I love when a new book comes out that invites me to do just that. And the book Portrait of God by Jack Mooring does just that.I'm welcoming Jack today. And he experienced the same thing that I'm describing to you. His book is a bit of a guidebook. It uses the stories of influential Christian figures like C.S. Lewis, Saint Augustine, Fanny Crosby, and so many more, to help us, believers, find stability in our faith amidst the chaos of this world. He and I chat about the fact that this world is pretty chaotic right now. This book and this conversation hope to be one of the tools that equips us in this ever-changing turbulent world we live in. Now, to recognize God's goodness in the midst of chaos, well, I know it can be challenging. Our faith can so often seem like a roller coaster as a result of that. Jack says, “I've learned that the Christian life is less about learning and more about remembering. I wrote this book to remind myself and the rest of us, forgetful people, that this is God whom we love and he really is who he says he is.”MORE ABOUT THE BOOK “PORTRAIT OF GODIn an ever-changing, often turbulent world, recognizing God’s goodness can be challenging. Many Christians describe their faith as a rollercoaster, with seasons of feeling close to God and having a clear sense of His presence, and others where He seems distant.Author Jack Mooring experienced this personally, and by reflecting on and learning from the lives of the faithful men and women in history, he uncovered powerful reminders of God’s unchanging truths.Mooring’s new book, Portrait of God: Rediscovering the Attributes of God through the Stories of His People (David C Cook, August 6, 2024) serves as a guidebook, using the stories of influential Christian figures like C.S. Lewis and St. Augustine to help modern-day believers find stability in their faith amidst the chaos of the world. In Portrait of God, Mooring provides thought-provoking questions and a list of further readings about each faith leader, allowing readers to dig even deeper into the truths about the unchanging character of God.“I’ve learned that the Christian life is less about learning and more about remembering,” writes Mooring. “I grew up in a rich tradition of truth, but life’s lies have often buried those true ideas about God. So I wrote this book to remind myself and the rest of us forgetful people that this God we love is really who He says He is. This book is an attempt to rediscover our wonder about who He is. For each attribute of God, I chose a person in church history who actually experienced that part of God’s nature. The goal is that, as we hear the stories of these people, we can get a glimpse of God through their eyes.”Each chapter explores an attribute of God through a person in church history who radicallyexperienced His nature, applying it as a brushstroke to our portrait.Readers will uncover:● Faith: How an all-powerful God worked miracles in the life of Kathryn Kuhlman.● Holiness: What Augustine of Hippo’s life in a secular world teaches us about God.● Compassion: How William and Catherine Booth’s service to others

S15 Ep 340Come to the Table: an invitation to the feasts Jesus celebrated

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM STEPHANIE:I want to share a special invitation with you. You may have heard that I will be releasing my first book with IVP on July 28, 2026. It’s a big deal and I am so overwhelmed with God’ goodness in allowing me to share such an essential message about delighting in Him as the true essential foundation for all our spiritual growth and maturing. We need to train ourselves to see Him even where it is not obvious. Because He is here. He is in the middle of every detail we are going through. We just forget. So, Stephanie invites you to join us as we train ourselves to see Him.There is something profound in seeking Jesus in the routine of daily life and also in the unusual moments of our years. To find him through our feasts and our fasts – our joys and our sadnesses, our happiness and our grief.Through the series and in this episode, Stephanie hopes to provide an overview of the Jewish and Christian feasts and how, for example, some of them were fulfilled by the death and resurrection of Jesus, and then the birth of the church in the first coming of Jesus. The remaining feasts are yet to be fulfilled in the second coming of Jesus. This broad perspective allows us to see the feasts as part of a larger narrative under the sovereignty of God, pointing to the continuing, redemptive work of Christ. The Jewish and Christian liturgical calendars remind us to keep our focus on eternal things as we await the fulfillment of the remaining feasts.Stephanie invites us into Jesus' interactions with his people through feasts, fasts, and daily life, focusing on the 17 special days in the Jewish and Christian liturgical calendars. Scripture and the communal aspect of faith urge us to explore ancient Jewish and Christian celebrations together as the body of Christ. Understanding the significance of feasts is not just an individual pursuit, but an opportunity to grow together as a community of believers.Scripture points to Jesus as the fulfillment of the law of Moses and the covering provided in the Garden of Eden. Jesus perfectly fulfilled the requirements of the Mosaic Law, bringing a new covenant through his death and resurrection. The sacrifices in the Old Testament, as described in Leviticus and the Mosaic Law, were valid in the eyes of God because they pointed to the future death of Jesus Christ, first highlighted in Isaiah. The sacrifices in the Old Testament did not remove sin, but worked to restore covenantal relationships and forgive particular sins. This is a crucial aspect to understand, as it lays the foundation for Jesus' role as the ultimate sacrifice for the complete removal of sin.By understanding the significance of feasts in both traditions and how they point to the work of the Messiah, we are invited to deepen our worship and grow in likeness to Jesus, the King of Kings. As we come to the table of God’s goodness and presence through the series, may we embrace these feasts as a fresh way to connect with our Savior, to fall in love and worship of Him ever deeper. Have you ever felt like you didn't belong somewhere? I believe we have this deep wired, this God-wired need to belong. And I believe all of us have at some point experienced the absence of that belonging. And that hurts deeply. The longing to belong is one of my greatest needs, personally. So, when my friend, Michelle Lee Barnewall, wrote a book literally called A Longing to Belong, I was very intrigued. What I love in her book, is that she uses her own personal story of being Asian and growing up in an extremely white neighborhood. She describes how that taught her that she did fit in because she was really American, but then she didn't really. Her book is part memoir, part eloquent theological treatise to challenge us to reconciliation in the name of belonging, in the name of unity in the body of Christ. It is about ethnic reconciliation. It's about belonging together to the family of God. Our conversation today is very honest. There's nothing Pollyanna or sugarcoated about this, and we're not drawing a black and white picture at all. Actually, I think her book is extremely subtle, balanced, challenging and beautiful at the same time. So, we discuss the deep longing to belong that we each carry, deep inside.Michelle doesn't mind the ambiguity of not having black and white answers. Her book, A Longing to Belong, really fits in the same category. She has a PhD from the University of Notre Dame. She is a professor of New Testament at Biola University. She brings a level of nuance and a comfort in ambiguity that I find much needed in our generation, in our culture today. Stephanie is offering you today an enlightening conversation with Hal Donaldson, the founder and president of Convoy of Hope, where he shared valuable insights about the Christian responsibility to acknowledge truth while approaching it with compassion and care.In a fast-paced world that celebrates achievements over rest, author and founder of Convoy of Hope, Hal Donaldson, emphasizes that taking care of yourself isn’t optional if you want to live selflessly and fulfill God’s calling on your life. When it comes to our personal well-being, success is often more dangerous than failure.Hal Donaldson discusses the profound impact of witnessing hopelessness on a global scale. From his experiences traveling globally with Convoy of Hope, he has seen both the deep needs and opportunities for people to find hope and faith. In a world where despair can be overwhelming, Donaldson emphasizes the importance of responding to rage and disapproval with acts of compassion, mirroring the example set by Jesus Christ. Reflecting on Mother Teresa's advice to "do the next kind thing that God puts in front of you," he inspires us to embody compassion in our actions, particularly in response to hopelessness. But we must be careful: When it comes to our personal well-being, success is often more dangerous than failure. As we try to fulfill others' expectations, we deplete our time, energy, and enthusiasm and end up feeling wrung out or burned out, sometimes even flaming out in spectacular ways. It may feel like the solution is just to quit--our jobs, our passions, our ministries--but there is a way to pour into others and take care of ourselves. The conversation focuses on the pivotal role of the church in demonstrating love and compassion to all people, irrespective of their beliefs. Hal and Stephanie exchange thoughts on the Christian responsibility to acknowledge the truth while approaching it with compassion and care. This brings to light the significance of the church's role in responding to the needs of the world with a God-centered perspective. By shining a light of hope and love into the darkness of despair, the church can serve as a beacon of God’s mercy and grace to those who are hurting.Hal sheds light on embracing opportunities to address the needs of the world with a God-centered perspective. Hal Donaldson shares personal experiences and encourages listeners to see the potential for the church to make a positive impact. In a world where hopelessness seems ever-present, he emphasizes the importance of not just acknowledging the needs, but actively seeking opportunities to serve and bring hope. Through stories of his work with Convoy of Hope, Donaldson inspires a call to action for individuals and congregations to seek ways to serve in their own communities, demonstrating compassion and love to those in need.In a world where hopelessness and despair can be pervasive, Hal Donaldson provides a powerful reminder of the importance of responding with compassion and love. By acknowledging the truth with grace and demonstrating God-centered compassion, we can offer hope to those who are hurting. Through his work with Convoy of Hope, Hal Donaldson exemplifies the transformative impact of embracing opportunities to address the world’s needs with a mindset centered on God's love and mercy. As we reflect on his wisdom and experiences, let us be inspired to live out our faith by bringing God-centered compassion to a world in need of hope and healing.MEET HAL DONALDSONHal Donaldson is the president and CEO of Convoy of Hope, a global, faith-based, nonprofit organization that works with communities to address root causes of poverty and hunger.According t

Have you ever wondered if you are tasting the fullness of the flavors God infused Scripture with? The Bible teaches that the goodness of the Lord is, literally, tasty (see Psalm 34:8). Has that been your experience? When you come away from your experience of church, or Bible Study, or your own time alone with God, do you feel replete and overflowing with His goodness? Do you feel full, spiritually speaking? Or, do you feel wondering if you have been feeding yourself on scraps and leftovers?Note | You are invited to go deeper by using our extensive digital book that includes, for each of our 12 episodes in the series, a listening guide, questions to ponder, key takeaways and key quotes, topics to go deeper, and more. Go to gospelspice.com/french for the details and to download a free sample.Together, let’s take a seat around Scripture, the best table that has ever been assembled for our enjoyment and delight, and for the glory of God. We aim to serve you as you feed on the Word of God to intensify your faith. It is a feast for the spiritual senses towards more of God. It answers the question, Are we tasting the fullness of the spiritual banquet of Scripture?I am truly honored and humbled that you would embark on this journey in Scripture through the French culture to grow in faith and intimacy with God by delighting in Scripture through French eyes. I am tickled to no end by our western culture’s premise that all things French are, well, maybe a bit more elegant, refined, sophisticated—maybe a tad next level. After all, what is better than vanilla or toast, except French vanilla and French toast? We’re going to unpack Scripture through the French culture that will tell you something unexpected about Christ, so that you too can experience delight in Christ.Could it be that we are missing out on some of the spiritual savors that God created us to enjoy? Are we unknowingly neglecting our spiritual tastebuds? We are created body, soul, and spirit. We cannot disassociate what God has woven together without experiencing much loss. And so, in a culture that has lost its spiritual tastebuds, I invite you to recover our Christ-centered spiritual delight in God. Make God your delight—your delicious delight. Words are to our mind what food is to our body, and Christ to our spirit. We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with.Go to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! S14 Ep 334The biblical art of humble boasting: Finding pride in the Lord and each other

We're back for the second part of our deep dive into understanding pride from a biblical perspective. So, grab your favorite iced drink, settle in, and let's talk about humble pride rooted in the Lord and how we can navigate the delicate balance of pride and humility. Pride comes in different shapes and sizes. It's not all bad! In this episode, we unpack the distinctions between positive, humble pride rooted in God and the not-so-great, self-centered pride. Understanding this balance is key to our journey in faith. Stephanie encourages us to take pride in the impactful work we do in the name of Christ. Scripture reminds us to celebrate the positive impact of our efforts in serving the Lord and spreading his love. One nugget of wisdom that really struck a chord is the idea that we can be proud of imperfect efforts. Embracing our flaws and still finding reasons to be proud is a beautiful reminder of God's grace and how, even in our shortcomings, we can boast in the Lord through Christ. We also ponder the Biblical mandate of boasting in the Lord, breaking down the interconnectedness of boasting in various aspects of life and ultimately coming back to a boasting in and of the Lord. The Bible lays out a powerful reminder of where our true pride and joy should lie. Stephanie pointed out something truly heartwarming – it's not just believers who boast, but God himself boasts in us and is proud of us. How amazing is it to know that the Creator of the universe feels genuine pride in his creation? This part really hit home – we are called to be humbly proud, boasting in humility and the high position we hold in Christ. It's a powerful reminder of our worth and value in the eyes of the Lord. So, there you have it – today is a rollercoaster ride through the complexities of pride, humility, and boasting in the Lord. Our key takeaway? Embracing humble pride rooted in the Lord allows us to find joy in our work, celebrate imperfection, and hold onto our worth as beloved children of God. Until next time, keep embracing that humble pride, celebrate your journey in faith, and remember to boast in the Lord through Christ. Cheers to the adventures in faith! Do you enjoy Gospel Spice? It's like a love-filled loop, where everyone gets to feel cherished.Liz and I also chatted about starting small and how those little acts of kindness can make a huge difference. Think about it – something as simple as making someone a cup of tea or sending a kind note can brighten their whole day.Liz's childhood memory of her mom going back to get a blade of grass left on a tree stump? It's a beautiful reminder that embracing imperfections is where real love happens. And when Liz shared her experience with burnout and realizing the need for self-care, it hit home for me. Stephanie kicks things off today with a bang by posing a million-dollar question: Is it ever okay to be proud? She gets into the nitty-gritty, unpacking the complexities of this virtue through Scripture and linguistic nuances. Who knew that the French language actually offers a different spin on pride? Stephanie shows how the word "orgueil" in French consistently carries a negative connotation, shedding light on the often-overlooked shades of meaning within this loaded term. But is pride ever a positive thing? Through a deep-dive into the Scriptures, Stephanie tackles the age-old dilemma of whether pride is always a villain or if it has a few tricks up its sleeve. Venturing into scenarios where expressions of pride might not fit neatly into the "good" or "bad" boxes, she challenges us to think outside the box. Have you ever wondered if being proud of something you've created or accomplished is a sin? Scripture encourages us to ponder the gray areas. Paul will be a worthwhile guide, under the authority of Jesus Christ, our Lord, through the Holy Spirit at work in us.What is the connection between pride and boasting? By comparing French and English interpretations, Stephanie illustrates how understanding different languages can open up fresh perspectives on the biblical teachings we thought we knew so well. You'll be left pondering some weighty questions about how these two influencers shape our lives.Stephanie places context under the spotlight, showing how it can make or break our understanding of pride. By meticulously comparing various translations, she uncovers the power of context in discerning the true essence of pride. Scripture pulls back the curtain on humility, revealing its Christ-centered power beyond the conventional concept of humility as a doormat. Contrary to popular belief, humility is not merely about abasement. Rather, it embodies teachability, contentment, and other-centeredness. So, get ready to take a good, hard look at how pride and humility play out in your own life. It's a journey you won't want to miss!Do you enjoy Gospel Spice? Then let's deepen our relationship! S14 Ep 331Trust God to actually start a new story in your life | with Mary DeMuth

It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!Stephanie here. I welcome Mary DeMuth again on the show, to talk about all the things we didn’t get to talk about when she came on the first time. We talk about deep things – church hurt, forgiveness, compassion, multifaceted journeys deep into the heart of God. We talk about daring to start a new story when it feels too late. Mary is here to tell us, it’s never too late to dream again, to trust God to write a new story out of the ashes of the old one. I love her for it.Mary loves Jesus. And really that’s the most important thing about her. It’s not writing or speaking or praying or mommying or any other -ing you can find. She flat out loves Him. Why? Because he has utterly, truly, completely re-storied her. See her testimony below. She has three adult children, and she’s been married to Patrick for 33 years now. Mary counts those relationships as the most important people in her life. In the mid 2000s, their family helped plant a church in Southern France–a difficult, but amazing experience. In her spare (ha!) time, she loves to cook, run, garden, decorate, paint, and do interior design. She’s been writing for 30+ years–half of them in obscurity. She mentored many writers during that time, and continues to do so through the Rockwall Christian Writers Group and some of her instructional books. Since then she has written over 45 books, translated into five languages. You can see a listing of all her books on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, CBD, Lifeway and Parable.Mary pioneered a literary agency in 2022, Mary DeMuth Literary, where she shepherds writers toward traditional publishing. She currently lives in North Texas, serves in my local church alongside her husband, and she’s had the privilege of speaking around the world in places like Johannesburg, Monaco, Geneva, Munich, Port-au-Prince, Nice and Florence. Although her past story is difficult, her current story leaks adventure. Not only has Mary been restored and restoried, but she longs to see the same for you. You no longer have to live haunted. She believes your new story starts today. Carl Bard wrote, “Though no one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.”Paul reminds us of this important truth: “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT).Living in retrospect is a bad idea. It’s time to heal, be set free, and find the new story God has for you. Mary has experienced God turning her storm into a story, moving her from a bitter story into a bigger one. Won’t you join her on the adventure?https://www.marydemuth.com/Mary’s First Person Narrative: My story is full of deep wounds. When I was five, the cane-shaking lady next door sprayed her blackberry bushes with poison so the neighborhood kids wouldn’t eat the renegade berries that spilled over her fence into the common alley. I didn’t understand that as I popped a huge handful into my mouth.“You’re going to die! You’re going to die!” she screamed at me after seeing my purple stained cheeks.I shook and cried, flailing myself on my bed. I obviously lived, but the fear of death took root in my heart. That same year, I faced more devastation. Neighborhood boys sexually assaulted me.As a result, I felt dirty, unwanted, uncared for, and quite alone. At ten years old, my world crumbled again when my biological father died. He’d been my hero, so his sudden, tragic loss sent me reeling. My fear of death magnified. A giant hole opened up in me–a daddy-shaped hole that sat unfilled. It seemed to grow every year, and the loneliness I felt without him sometimes felt stifling. Too much. Too hard. Too much grief for a girl ten years old.I fought my emotions, tried to wrangle them into submission. But they weren’t easily managed. They stayed deep inside and erupted when I didn’t

S14 Ep 330"Patienting": the fine art of holy waiting

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM STEPHANIE:I want to share a special invitation with you. You may have heard that I will be releasing my first book with IVP on July 28, 2026. It’s a big deal and I am so overwhelmed with God’ goodness in allowing me to share such an essential message about delighting in Him as the true essential foundation for all our spiritual growth and maturing. It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!You know that feeling when you're stuck waiting for something, whether it's a long line at the grocery store or eagerly anticipating a life-changing event? Well, today we dive into the concept of "patienting" and how it completely flips the script on waiting.Note | You are invited to go deeper by using our extensive digital book that includes, for each of our 12 episodes in the series, a listening guide, questions to ponder, key takeaways and key quotes, topics to go deeper, and more. Go to gospelspice.com/french for the details and to download a free sample. What's "Patienting" anyway? It comes from the French “patienter” which is translated “wait” in English, but encompasses so much more! "Patienting" is a super intentional form of waiting. It's not just twiddling your thumbs or feeling annoyed; it's about embracing patience as a strength, finding hope in the waiting, and actively growing through the process.Patienting also has to do with trusting God's timing when you'd rather not wait – which is much easier said than done. You ever feel like waiting is just not your thing? I invite you today to reflect on how, when we surrender to the idea of holy waiting, it's like saying, "Okay, God, I see You've got a plan here." It's all about finding peace and hope even in the midst of our impatience, thanks to prayer and trust in God's perfect timing.Scripture serves up some fascinating examples, like Job and Moses, to show how patience is something we learn through experiences, especially the humbling ones. It's like building up our patience muscles through life's ups and downs, and coming out stronger and wiser on the other side.Patience as a superpower in a fast-paced world. Being patient isn't exactly the trendiest thing, right? But when we show patience and kindness to others, especially when it's tough for us, it not only fills us with hope but also spreads that hope to others. It's like a superpower that grows the more we use it!Waiting with a purpose, ultimately, showcases the transformative power of "patienting." By shifting our mindset on waiting and embracing "patienting," we start to see waiting as a season of personal and spiritual growth. It's about sowing seeds of patience, having faith in God's perfect timing, and coming out stronger on the other side.In a world that's all about hustle and bustle, "patienting" offers a fresh take on waiting, aligning with the core Biblical truths of faith, hope, and endurance. By adopting a patient mindset and embracing the art of waiting well, we're encouraged to find strength and hope in our waiting, knowing that it will all be worth it in the end. That, too, is the gospel! We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with.Go to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! S14 Ep 328Exploring faith and reason with biblical hope alongside Blaise Pascal

It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!I invite you to continues our exploration of the French words for hope, "espoir" and "esperance," and to dive deeper into their biblical and cultural significance.Scripture draws parallels between the biblical story of Babel in Genesis 11 and the unifying power of hope in Christ. God orchestrated Scripture to be translatable in all languages, which reverses the curse of Babel and offers the potential in Christ to unite us under the banner of hope.As I was researching the connections between "espoir" and "esperance," I was blown away to discover two verses in Scripture that hold both verses together. They have much to tell us, as we too hold both "espoir" and "esperance" in our own hearts. The first, in the Old Testament, unveils the significance of Job's despair and his quest for true hope; the second, in the New Testament, highlights Paul's profound insights into the essence of hope. These complementary perspectives on hope, stemming from Job, the oldest book in the Bible, and 1st Timothy, one of Paul's last letters, ground us deeply in our King and Savior, Jesus Christ. But Esperance is fading from the French landscape. So, I asked both Christian and non-Christian French friends and family members about the influence of Esperance in their lives today. The answers are striking, and I want to invite you to discover them with me – so that you too can form your own informed experience of Esperance in Christ. It has much to do with a deeply felt experience of despair apart from Esperance.Next, I invite you to (re)discover a famous French thinker and author, Blaise Pascal, to embrace the delicate interplay between reason, faith, and mystery. Through Pascal's eloquent words and profound insights, let’s see what we can learn about the transformative potential of faith and reason working in harmony. The emphasis on humility, the coexistence of science and faith, and the acknowledgement of the limitations of human understanding in the life and work of Blaise Pascal inspire contemplation and introspection, encouraging us to explore the depths of our beliefs with open hearts and minds. We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with.Go to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! I'm welcoming you into a conversation where we kick off talking about the Olympic games. My guest, Vera Schmitz, used to train to go to the Olympics. She'll tell us how that worked out, and how the Lord led her in a very different way with her sister Natalie to be the cofounder of Dwell Differently. It's a truly vibrant online community, committed to memorizing God's Word together every single month. Vera tells us what happens when we have God's word in our brain all the time, stored in our hearts, deep in our soul, at the tip of our tongue. It's not just about memorizing verses, but about being radically transformed by the power of God's word. When we engage in deep devotionals and discussions, we apply the truth practically and experience life change. In a world where truth is often subjective and ever-changing, the importance of being tethered to the rock-solid truth of Scripture cannot be understated. The Bible's reliability provides an unwavering foundation for our lives. Investigate it, stand on it, and allow it to shape your reality!Vera and I also discuss the significance of not being afraid and finding courage in God's promise to be with us. Through prayer and community, we can overcome challenges and find strength in Christ. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we struggle to find the words, and prayer becomes a vessel for His work.MORE ABOUT THE BOOKWhat if you had God's words with you all the time? Not just on your phone, but deep in your soul and on the tip of your tongue? It may sound daunting, or even impossible.Knowing how hard Scripture memorization can be, Dwell Differently founders Natalie Abbott and Vera Schmitz created a simple, creative, and smart way to memorize Scripture and keep God's promises in your heart. Natalie and Vera not only reveal the importance of having a mind built on God's Word, they actually give you the tools necessary to defeat negative thoughts. In doing so, they help you:· fight lies with truth· replace fear with peace· focus your heart on what really mattersIn a world filled with negative voices competing for our attention, just one word from God is more powerful than any other. It's time to store up a wealth of them.MORE ABOUT VERA SCHMITZSisters. Friends. Jesus peeps. That's us.We’re Natalie and Vera—sisters from a big fat family of seven with so many similarities. We look the same—no we aren’t twins! We love the same food—homemade tortillas with LOADS of butter. And we share the same passion—helping people connect with God through his Word. That’s why we do what we do over here, showing up each month, memorizing a new verse. We talk about it on our weekly podcasts and devos and on Instagram every day… BECAUSE, we really believe that the God of the universe loves us and has spoken to us in the Bible. And when we are in it, we can know him and experience freedom and life and transformation. S14 Ep 326From wishful thinking to certain hope in Christ

Truly, when we delight in the Lord, He promises to give us the desires of our hearts – namely, more of Himself! So, here's the invitation. The Bible says much about the impact of hope on the heart, shedding light on the intricate relationship between hope and the human spirit. So today I invite you deep into the nuances from Scripture in French to spark fresh hope, and reignite embers of disappointed hope for you. French offers subtle yet profound differences between two words both translated “hope” in English: "Espoir" and "Esperance.""éspoir" is more like wishful thinking, while "espérance" is all about rock-solid promises. It's a bit like the difference between fleeting daydreams and unwavering faith – and it's deeply rooted in biblical truth. Scripture really hones in on the truth of "espérance," painting a vivid picture of the steadfast assurance and unwavering faith it embodies in the Christian faith. This isn't just about fleeting hope; it's about rock-solid confidence in the promise of eternal salvation.Scripture gives us context as it explores how hope coexists with fear and uncertainty. It's an inspiring call to rise above fleeting "éspoir" and embrace the unshakable hope that comes with faith in Christ. We explore how the use of "éspoir" and "espérance" shifts between the Old and New Testaments. It's like peeling back layers of a story – and it all ties into concealed and revealed hope throughout Christ. And so, I invite you to reflect on your own hope, encouraging you to consider the transformation from "Espoir" to "Esperance" made possible through Christ. Together, let’s unveil the cultural and biblical significance of "Esperance," with its prevalence in the New Testament and its profound certainty and confidence in Christ. The perfect gift for everyone - apparel, drinkware, stickers and more for all the women, men and kids in your life!https://www.gospelspice.com/merchGo to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! S14 Ep 325Finally find peace amidst relational grief | with Holley Gerth

It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!Today I welcome Holley Gerth, who advocates for pursuing hope in the midst of pain and grief. We need to recognize the need to grieve losses, big and small – including losses of our dreams, and losses in relationships. Peace stems from surrendering to God's will, rather than fixating on specific outcomes. So, we ask: how do we transition from controlling outcomes, to finding peace in God? We discuss the pivotal role of faith in understanding and working through the pain and unmet expectations in life. How do we navigate the process of transitioning from a broken narrative to a new story under the guidance of God?Holley shares five profound questions aimed at advancing the healing process, focusing on identifying and challenging the lies believed, embracing the truth that God desires to instill, and crafting a new life narrative infused with hope and grace. This approach offers a roadmap to find peace and healing in the midst of our struggles. Additionally, we acknowledge the significance of acknowledging and grieving everyday, smaller griefs, emphasizing the human need to surrender and find solace in God during these moments.Holley offers a brand new course on overcoming heartache, tailored for anyone struggling with grief, and those supporting others through similar experiences. S14 Ep 324"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free." What does it mean?

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM STEPHANIE:I want to share a special invitation with you. You may have heard that I will be releasing my first book with IVP on July 28, 2026. It’s a big deal and I am so overwhelmed with God’ goodness in allowing me to share such an essential message about delighting in Him as the true essential foundation for all our spiritual growth and maturing. It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!Through the lens of the French language in our current series, I invite you today to explore the concept of the "parole" of Christ and its significance in the Christian faith. This uniquely French perspective sheds light on the depth of freedom offered through Christ's sacrifice, especially when you combine it with the gratitude expressed through the word "merci."Note | You are invited to go deeper by using our extensive digital book that includes, for each of our 12 episodes in the series, a listening guide, questions to ponder, key takeaways and key quotes, topics to go deeper, and more. Go to gospelspice.com/french for the details and to download a free sample.Understanding Christ as our ultimate parole invites us to embrace the freedom offered through His sacrifice, leading to a life characterized by gratitude and the pursuit of justice. May we delve deeper into the significance of Christ's parole and cultivate a heart of gratitude, acknowledging the mercies and graces bestowed upon us through His immense love and sacrifice. For starters, I invite you to consider the concept of the "parole" of Christ by examining a combined French translation of John 1:1, emphasizing the significance of how Christ is our parole. This uniquely French perspective invites us to ponder the richness of Christ's role as our freedom and parole, offering a fresh understanding of the depth of His sacrifice.Understanding that Christ is our ultimate parole unlocks the meaning of the promise of release from the sentence of eternal separation from God. This biblical truth underscores Christ's sacrifice, offering an invitation to embrace freedom from the bondage of sin and death. The significance of Christ as our parole prompts a shift in perspective, inviting us to acknowledge the immense freedom bestowed upon us through His grace. Then, let’s draw parallels between the French word "merci" (thank you) and the concept of mercy in the Christian faith. Through this connection, we explore the essence of expressing gratitude to God for His mercy and grace. This encourages deep reflection on the distinction between justice, mercy, and grace, highlighting the profound impact of Christ's sacrifice in granting us mercy and freedom. So, let’s get practical. How do we express gratitude and advocate for justice in our daily lives? It starts with cultivating a heart of gratitude, acknowledging both the significant and seemingly small mercies in our lives. Additionally, Scripture challenges us to seek ways to practice justice and promote a better world in alignment with the teachings of Jesus, emphasizing the interconnectedness of gratitude and justice. We live in the age of grace, where the freedom offered through Christ's parole transcends the constraints of the law. Grasping the enormity of Christ's sacrifice leads to a renewed appreciation for the mercies and grace present in our lives. The call to cultivate gratitude and embrace freedom becomes a pivotal aspect of living in alignment with Christ's teachings. We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with.Go to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! S14 Ep 323The Riches of Your Grace | with Julie Lane-Gay

It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!What if an ancient prayer book proved the most relevant and up-to-date tool to embrace intimacy with God in completely fresh ways? As we race to work in the morning, have coffee with a friend, or fall into bed exhausted, we want to feel God's presence, to sink into his grace. Yet too often he feels aloof, absent. Our prayers feel trivial. But as Julie Lane-Gay discovered, the Book of Common Prayer is designed for just this purpose: to root Christians in the riches of God's grace. So, she and Stephanie have an intimate, vulnerable, authentic conversation today, aiming to invite YOU to enter into the world of this ancient book to draw closer to God.Julie Lane-Gay has written “The Riches of Your Grace” to share the treasures she has found in the Book of Common Prayer. It's not a history of the prayer book nor a guide (though it will certainly help readers get their bearings). Instead, using stories from her own life, Julie Lane-Gay shows what it means to live in the prayer book: to allow its prayers and patterns to shape an ordinary Christian life.Discover how the Book of Common Prayer can anchor us―our prayers, our daily lives, our hearts―in Christ. The Book of Common Prayer is mostly taken straight from Scripture – Julie explains that 86% of it is pure Scripture. It means, it is theologically sound, trustworthy, safe, and protective! The Book of Common Prayer can be a lifeline in life's storms. Julie shares how the Book of Common Prayer provided her with solace and comfort during a challenging time when her son was born prematurely. The specific prayers for women who have just given birth became a source of strength, nurturing her faith and shaping her as a Christian. It serves as a safe theological foundation, offering a healthy perspective on God's presence and grace amidst life's challenges. The Book of Common Prayer fosters community and the power of intimate spiritual connection. From weekly Compline services helping a friend heal from spiritual dryness to a neighbor hosting a Compline for the neighborhood, Julie witnessed the profound impact of communal prayer. These simple, predictable, and comforting prayers have served as a space for honesty, debriefing, and spiritual rejuvenation, drawing in new attendees and providing a space for the Holy Spirit to work.Could the Book of Common Prayer become a tool to share the gospel in our generation? Julie and I discuss this tantalizing prospect. The prayer book isn't just a personal tool for spiritual growth but also a powerful means for evangelization. Julie's book, "The Riches of Your Grace," provides practical ideas for using the prayer book at home, demonstrating its potential to nurture faith, bring comfort, and draw in those who have never experienced the Church.About the AuthorJulie Lane-Gay is a freelance writer and editor. Her work has appeared in a range of publications including Reader's Digest, Fine Gardening, Faith Today, Anglican Planet, and The Englewood Review of Books. She teaches occasional courses at Regent College and also edits the college's journal, CRUX. She lives with her husband, Craig, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and is active in her local Anglican church.Do you enjoy Gospel Spice? Then let's deepen our relationship! S14 Ep 322God possesses ultimate worth. And consequently, so do you!

Stephanie here. There is nothing quite as mesmerizing as the worth of God – the very word “worship” comes from the ancient English worth-ship and recognizes the ultimate worth of God. So today I invite you down the lane of another French word which, I pray, will allow you to enter fresh, deep worship. That French word is “Valeur.” So, drawing from the biblical concept of intrinsic worth, subjective value, and objective worth, let’s dive into the multifaceted aspects of this word and how it relates to our understanding of worthiness, valor, and the intangible qualities that draw us to God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ found in Scripture. We begin by unveiling the nuanced meaning of "Valeur." Exploring the layers of value, worth, and valor, we will highlight the intricate connection between these concepts. By pondering the biblical perspective on value, we will examine how our worth is ultimately defined by God's opinion of us. This foundational understanding shapes our perception of self-worth and value, inviting us to recognize our intrinsic worth as valued and cherished children of God.Deeper still, let’s ponder with fresh awe and reverent worship the intrinsic worth of God, emphasizing that His supreme worthiness is what sets Him apart as the ultimate and only worthy Being. This will inspire us to acknowledge the objective worth of God, anchoring our appreciation of His supreme value and dignity.Next, I invite us into the exploration of Christ's valor. Scripture paints a poignant picture of Jesus as our valiant Savior, weaving together His humility, sacrifice, and love in the face of the Cross. Through this, the Bible inspires its readers to embrace the valor of Christ within ourselves, recognizing that the same valor is made available to us through the Holy Spirit.Shifting focus to the intriguing French expression "je ne sais quoi," I hope to show you its resonance with the intangible qualities that draw us to the Gospel, inspiring us to live out our faith in a way that embodies the gospel to the world, thus attracting others to the beauty and magnetism of Christ in our own lives. As such, we have a responsibility to steward that divine "je ne sais quoi”: as recipients of God's unmerited favor, we are called to cultivate and manifest these intangible qualities in our lives. Scripture compels us to exude Christ's aroma, drawing others to the undeniable allure of the Gospel through our actions, character, and faith. We will talk about what it looks like, and how to do that. So, today let’s enter Scripture reverently, because it invites us to not only recognize our intrinsic worth through God's eyes, but also to embody that captivating "je ne sais quoi" that draws others to the beauty of Christ's love and grace. Scripture unveils the intrinsic worth and valor of the Gospel, and compels us towards the unfathomable beauty and depth of hope and redemption found in Christ Jesus.DISCOVER THE GOSPEL SPICE MINISTRIES The Gospel Spice Podcast is part of a larger range of tools given to you by Gospel Spice Ministries. In a nutshell, we exist to inspire Christ-followers to delight in God.In more details: we provide resources to empower Christian leaders across generational, social, ethnic and geographical boundaries towards more intimacy with Jesus Christ and discipleship effectiveness through a Biblical Christocentric foundation. S14 Ep 320Making sense of the trials of life: testing, emotions, and spiritual growth in Christ

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM STEPHANIE:I want to share a special invitation with you. You may have heard that I will be releasing my first book with IVP on July 28, 2026. In the context of spiritual growth and Christian faith, Epreuve delves into the very core of our relationship with God. This word carries multifaceted meanings that unfold to reveal the path of testing, emotions, and ultimately, the shaping of our identity in Christ. In our last episode, which was the first of our two in our study of this French word, we saw that Epreuve bears the duality of meaning: proof and test, trial and opportunity. Epreuve serves as an invitation to unveil our inner authenticity. Trials become the mirror that reflects our true character, our faith, and our response to circumstances.Peter, acquainted with countless tests and trials, highlights the significance of these experiences. The tested genuineness of our faith, more precious than gold, illuminates the enduring nature of trials. Herein lies the parallel between the refining of gold through fire and the refinement of our faith through trials. In essence, Epreuve emerges as a conduit for unveiling the authenticity and purity of our faith, anchoring it as a central tenet in our journey of spiritual growth.Going deeper, Epreuve enters the realm of emotions. From resolute emotions of hate and fear to the profound joy that is intrinsic to our spiritual journey, Epreuve encompasses powerful emotional sentiments that shape our core. In essence, emotions become the internal trials that reflect and shape our identity in profound ways.Epreuve extends beyond momentary trials to encompass a season of probation. This resonates with the very essence of spiritual growth. We are invited to walk through these periods not to prove our worthiness, but to experience the grace and freedom inherent in our relationship with God. Understanding that our future in Christ is unwavering, we embrace the freedom to navigate the journey of growth, understanding that it is through these seasons of probation that we continually evolve into the fullness of Christ. The culmination of Epreuve leads us to our guaranteed heavenly future of sin-proofness, through the spiritual journey of the follower of Jesus toward becoming a reflection of Christ's glory. Through the lens of Epreuve, we comprehend that while we may face tests and trials in this earthly sojourn, they serve as the crucible that tempers us into growing sin-proofness. Furthermore, our emotions, when experienced through the prism of faith, become gradually more and more similar to the fruit of the Spirit, leading us to increasingly reflect His glory as if in a mirror. That French word Epreuve weaves a narrative that surpasses mere linguistic boundaries. It exemplifies the intricate and transformative journey of spiritual growth, the testing of faith, and the unveiling of our true identity in Christ. As we embrace the epreuves of life, we encounter the testing and refining of our faith, the depth of our emotions, and the season of probation, all converging to carve us into increasingly sin-proof reflections of Christ's glory. Let us embrace this journey with eyes fixed on Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith, who will prove the irrevocable grace we have received as approved children of God.We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with.Go to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! S14 Ep 319Securely attached to God: His little-experienced promise to us | with Summer Joy Gross

If you feel this message is indeed important, and you know people – including yourself perhaps – who need to be encouraged to awaken and cultivate their delight in God, would you consider joining my book launch team? It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!Stephanie here! I had the most delightful encounter today with Summer Joy Gross. Let me tell you about her through reading a sample of the book we're going to talk about. It's called The Emmanuel Promise, and it's a book that I lingered over. I took time. As you know, I read several books a week to decide which ones I'm going to have on the show. And this one, I just couldn't, read it quick. I just had to take my time with it. So here's what she writes.“Try it out. Go to a busy Starbucks at 7 in the morning, and as people rush in and out, ask Emmanuel to give you eyes to see his love for this one unique expression of his creativity or to gift you with a picture of their pain? Practice the presence of God with this person standing on the threshold of their day, one glorious being, broken and beautiful at a time. Ask, and then pray his heart for them. Look around at the faces of those lost in the glow of their screens and ask Emmanuel to flood you with his first majestic idea of their creation, what he meant when he create he carefully crafted them. Become easily delighted with created art in human form. Fall in love a 1000 times over. Then, attached and courageous enough to risk, make yourself available to Emmanuel's mission to speak good news to the poor, rescue captives, bind up broken hearts, comfort mourners, to draw all people into attachment love with their Emmanuel, the one who longs to fill every empty heart. Then go to the homeless shelter, to the prison, to the boutique, to the boat docks. Walk the light of Christ into the corners of the world. Pray God would make every ordinary location a sanctuary of His presence. “Now, let me tell you: Someone who inspires me to do that is someone I want to hang out with. And that's Summer Joy Gross. She is an Anglican priest, retreat leader, spiritual director whose work is guided by the belief that our stories can be transformed by God's invitation to make his love our home base. She's an associate faculty of spiritual formation and the art of spiritual direction at the Healing Care Ministries Spiritual Direction School. She's the host of the Presence podcast. She lives in North Georgia with her husband. They have 3 teenagers, and a Britney Spaniel who points lawn ornament rabbits around their suburban neighborhood. Now, let me tell you about our conversation. Summer Joy Gross beautifully invites us into the essence of believing in the constant presence of God, drawing inspiration from Brother Lawrence who found comfort in God's presence during pandemics and war. She emphasizes the use of physical objects to remind oneself of God's presence. We talk about the transformative power of suffering, embracing all emotions, and finding rest in God even through the dark night of the soul. Summer Joy Gross courageously shares her personal experience of questioning God's goodness after enduring sexual abuse. Her journey, spanning over 7-8 years of doubt, resonates deeply and beautifully reflects the resilience to find belief in the goodness of God. The conversation uncovers the struggle of false beliefs and the freedom found in believing in God's heart for humanity. They expand on the power of spiritual practices and the deep, soul-nourishing experience of Lectio Divina.Summer highlights the importance of acknowledging and bringing our needs before God, creating a pathway for a rich, fulfilling relationship with Him. Together, we invite you into the impact of early wounds and the beauty in merging spiritual practices with science. Here are 5 key topics in this episode:1. The importance of practicing the presence of God, particularly in challenging times, and how it can bring comfort and peace.2. Exploring the use of physical objects like candles and jewelry to remind ourselves of God's presence in our daily lives.3. Embracing a more embodied experience of faith rathe

Together, we are beckoned by this word to embrace trials and tests as opportunities for growth and refinement in our spiritual journey.Note | You are invited to go deeper by using our extensive digital book that includes, for each of our 12 episodes in the series, a listening guide, questions to ponder, key takeaways and key quotes, topics to go deeper, and more. Go to gospelspice.com/french for the details and to download a free sample.Trials and tests are integral to our faith journey. By embracing trials as transformative experiences, we embark on a path of authenticity and refinement in Christ. As we navigate trials, we are empowered to embrace the refining process, cultivate unwavering faith, and bear witness to the profound work of God within us. Through this journey of embracing trials and tests, we emerge as resilient and authentic bearers of the genuine faith that withstands the tests of time. Trials and tests are catalysts for growth, ultimately leading us to a place of profound transformation and unwavering authenticity in our faith journey.Trials are revealing and refining moments. So, drawing from 2Corinthians 8:8, let’s articulate how trials serve as essential tools that test the sincerity of love and faith. Much like a teacher using tests to gauge the understanding of students, trials reveal what lies within us. Whether they manifest as external adversities or internal suffering, trials become the crucible through which our faith and character are tested and refined. This French word invites us to reframe our perspective on trials. Rather than viewing them as insurmountable obstacles, trials are an invitation to deepen our self-awareness and recognize the transformative work of God within us. The analogy of car crash tests is particularly compelling, as it illustrates how trials reveal what is dormant or concealed beneath the surface. Through this lens, trials become catalysts for personal growth, leading us to surrender to God and witness His refining work in our lives.Joseph, Paul, and, most of all, our beloved King Jesus Christ Himself, faced formidable trials yet ultimately trusted God for positive outcomes. Their testimonies serve as powerful examples of navigating trials with unwavering faith. By examining their journeys, we glean valuable insights into persevering through trials and embracing the refining process with steadfast hope and authenticity.Tests and trials prove the genuineness of our faith. By studying different translations, I invite you to discover fresh ways in which trials deepen our faith and spiritual authenticity. So, together, let us reconsider our perception of tests. Rather than solely being mechanisms for evaluation, tests are opportunities for proofing and proving. The juxtaposition of testing and proving in the context of faith amplifies the truth that in Christ, approval precedes testing and proving. Thus, our faith becomes a testament to the unyielding grace of God, empowering us to navigate trials with a sense of purpose and steadfastness. The perfect gift for everyone - apparel, drinkware, stickers and more for all the women, men and kids in your life!https://www.gospelspice.com/merchGo to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! Her insights invite reflection and introspection, prioritizing empathy, patience, and understanding in the pursuit of a multi-faceted faith experience for the glory of God in Christ Jesus!Mary recounts her journey of embracing the French language and culture. Having studied French in high school and pursued a minor in college, her foundation was laid for the experiences that lay ahead. Her venture into France wasn't just a tourist endeavor but stemmed from her faith and calling to ministry. The decision to move from the US to France, as church planters, unraveled a myriad of cultural, spiritual, and personal challenges. Her insights into the French 'joie de vivre' and approach to disagreements reveal the vibrant and diverse nature of French culture, something she is chagrined to find lacking in current day US.Mary shares how her experiences in France reshaped her perspective on faith, culture, and human interaction. Her outlook is rooted in empathy, patience, and the cultivation of meaningful conversations. She articulates the importance of cultivating empathy, seeking delight, and engaging in nuanced conversations. Recognizing the value of foreign experiences and their impact on our faith, she highlights the need for understanding and embracing differences.Mary concludes the interview with a heartfelt prayer for those stepping into new and unfamiliar cultural landscapes. S14 Ep 316Experience Joie de Vivre by pursuing the Grand Prix of life

But where can we find this true joy, this joie de vivre, in the midst of life's ups and downs? Today I invite you into the biblical concept of joy, exploring how it is intimately connected to pursuing the ultimate prize in Christ. Join us as we journey through the wisdom of the scriptures and discover the path to cultivating a lifestyle of joy, rooted in the grand prize of Christ himself.Note | You are invited to go deeper by using our extensive digital book that includes, for each of our 12 episodes in the series, a listening guide, questions to ponder, key takeaways and key quotes, topics to go deeper, and more. Go to gospelspice.com/french for the details and to download a free sample.Let’s start by exploring the biblical notion of pursuing a prize, as outlined in Philippians 3:14. The ultimate goal Paul pursues is to know Christ and the power of his resurrection. This sets the stage for understanding how Jesus Himself is the grand prize that Paul, and by extension, all believers, are after. As we reflect on this biblical perspective, we gain insights into the true purpose and fulfillment found in the pursuit of Christ as the ultimate prize of our lives.I invite you to draw a parallel between the French word "prix" (prize) and the concept of Jesus as the grand prix, the ultimate reward and the thrill of a lifetime. Just as in a race where only one receives the prize, we are encouraged to run in such a way as to win the prize of knowing Christ. We are reminded of the sacrificial cost Jesus paid to become our ultimate prize, and how this reflects the immeasurable value of our relationship with Him. So, view your pursuit of Christ as part of a grand adventure, the ultimate race where the prize is an intimate and deeply fulfilling relationship with your Savior!Amidst the pursuit of the ultimate prize, Paul's letters in Philippians also emphasize the importance of joy. Paul's expression of joy in the midst of hardship and trials highlights the connection between pursuing Christ and experiencing true joy. We explore the biblical definition of joy and how it transcends external circumstances. Together, let’s explore the intertwining themes of contentment, gratitude, and rejoicing, highlighting that true joy is rooted in a deep, foundational relationship with Christ, and not in fleeting external circumstances. In the second half of the episode, I introduce the French expression "joie de vivre," which translates to "joy of living." This concept goes beyond mere personality traits and reflects a deep-rooted delight in simply being alive. The discussion shifts to the Hebrew word for joy, and how it aligns with the Christian understanding of delighting in the scriptures. We are reminded that cultivating joy in Christ is a lifelong journey, and it is intimately connected to our growth in faith and the abiding presence of God's word in our lives. As we conclude our exploration, we reaffirm the profound truth that pursuing Christ as the ultimate prize leads to a lifestyle marked by true joy. The pursuit of the grand prize of Christ transforms our perspective on life, infusing each moment with purpose and eternal significance. Cultivating joie de vivre in Christ is a slow and intentional process, but it is a journey filled with immeasurable richness and fulfillment. This journey of pursuing the ultimate prize and finding joy in Christ is an invitation to embrace the abundant life that Jesus promises to all who follow Him. As we imitate Paul, who imitates Christ, may our lives become a testament to the joy and fulfillment found in pursuing the grand prize of Christ. As we navigate our daily lives, may we be reminded of the ultimate reward that awaits us in Christ an

Stephanie here. I invite you through this new Gospel Spice series to embrace the French language and culture for a fresh explosion of faith! Join me to experience the beauty of Scripture in French, transcending linguistic barriers to explore the depths of faith and intimacy with God.Journey with me through Scripture, in French, even if you are completely unfamiliar with the language. This unusual approach aims to deepen the understanding of Scripture beyond its literal translation, incorporating the essence of French culture, literature, and gastronomy to enrich the spiritual experience. By unpacking Scripture through the lens of French language and culture, the series aims to reveal unexpected facets of Jesus and his teachings, inspiring you to approach your faith with newfound vigor.Note | You are invited to go deeper by using our extensive digital book that includes, for each of our 12 episodes in the series, a listening guide, questions to ponder, key takeaways and key quotes, topics to go deeper, and more. Go to gospelspice.com/french for the details and to download a free sample.Intriguingly, the French word for "delight" encompasses both delight and deliciousness, offering a deeper, more nuanced perspective. This linguistic treasure serves as a metaphor for the multifaceted journey that awaits us in this series, promising to uncover the richness of faith akin to a sumptuous feast. Step by step, together we will experience the layers of faith encapsulated within the French language. Our goal is simple, yet profound: together, let’s foster a profound sense of joy and fulfillment in our spiritual walk!Over the next three months, each episode of the series will focus on a French word or expression to draw out deeper intimacy with Jesus, encouraging prayer, reflection, and introspection. The series aims to not only aid in understanding who Jesus is and what he has done for each one of us; it will also provide insights into who we are in his eyes and the purpose to which we are called in our lives. The series is not confined to mere listening. You are offered the opportunity to embark on a comprehensive spiritual journey through the accompanying guidebook. The experience can be pursued individually, with friends, or in a small group. You choose how you experience your journey! In this episode, I introduce the concept of RSVP, drawing parallels between the nuanced French expression and spiritual invitations. So, consider how you will RSVP to God's invitations! Consider virtues of surrender, trust, and openness in embracing His guidance.Drawing from Jesus' example in the beatitudes, let’s enter an introspective exploration of how we respond to God's invitations. Consider the abundance of blessings in various circumstances, inspiring a deeper gratitude and understanding of our divine calling. Reflect on Jesus' invitation to count your blessings, so that you will experience a profound shift in perspective and appreciation for the grace you have received. As the series unfolds, we invite you on an in-depth exploration of your faith through language and culture. From uncovering the depths of the French language to embracing God's invitations through a Christ-like response, the journey promises to kindle in your heart a fresh passion for faith and an unwavering love for Christ. Stephanie welcomes Pastor Daniel Im to discuss his upcoming book, The Discipleship opportunity, releasing June 18, 2024. Do they need to hear the gospel right now? Or is it more about building relationships first? Could it be about alternative, creative ways to tell them about Jesus? It all depends on how they currently approach their spirituality. What can you do, and how? Daniel Im will help us understand who “sleepers” are, as well as “seekers”. Now, what about the “consumers” in your church? You know, the ones who come to watch and would rather not participate? How do you relate to them? And, if you are what Daniel calls a “disciple” then what is your role in the body of Christ?Given the many ways that our world has changed, it’s time for Christian leadership strategies to change, and for churches to approach making disciples, evangelism, and preaching differently than yesterday. Did you count? I did. We spent 33 episodes together. What a journey! The Gospel of Matthew has been teaching us the life of Jesus from a culturally relevant perspective. Matthew uses "show, don't tell" moments to convey essential cultural clues. We've explored how Jesus' teachings impacted the people of his time.In the first 12 chapters of Matthew, we mainly focused on Jesus' teachings in plain sight. But after chapter 12, things take a different turn. Jesus starts using parables and begins teaching privately to his disciples. One thing that really stands out is how the Pharisees got antagonized by Jesus seemingly breaking the Sabbath. But Jesus was quick to challenge their understanding, accusing them of not truly knowing the Scriptures and confronting their hypocrisy head-on.Throughout these chapters, Jesus emphasizes the importance of a surrendered heart over external sacrifices. He claims to be the Lord of the Sabbath, equal with God Himself. Talk about a bold statement! It will cause massive ripples effects, all the way to the other side of the cross. The sacrifice of Jesus was the last sacrifice. Let that sink in. Jesus, our Savior, is seated at the right hand of God, signifying rest and authority. Wow.Prophets and Psalms challenge us to know, hear, taste, and see God's goodness. So, let's immerse ourselves in His Word and experience His presence in a whole new way! Let's close with this thought: intimacy with God is made possible through Christ and a worshiping heart. As we read and hear Scripture, let's truly understand its depths and apply it to our lives. We are here to encourage you to seek deeper intimacy with God, week in and week out. Thank you for joining us each week. Let His words penetrate your heart and transform you. Let's experience His love and live surrendered lives. And remember, friends, surrender your heart to God, and watch Him work wonders in your life. Are you looking for a place to take notes, some topics to research on your own, or some questions you could ponder to go deeper during your quiet time with God or with a friend? They provide ample hope from further down the road - having accumulated decades of wisdom in the public square as Nashville music producing influencers. Dare I say - few people have influenced our generation through music more powerfully than they have.I read their book, meaningfully titled “Why everything that doesn’t matter, matters so much” and then awaited this conversation with giddiness, anticipation, excitement, a little bit of shyness. Maybe I was – and still am? – a little starstruck? I will let you decide.Have you ever asked, what can I do to mend the world, to mend my family or my own life? And if I could, is it worth it? Should I bother? Does my own small part in the world really matter? And so today, multi-Grammy-winner Charlie Peacock and his wife, delightful author Andy Ashworth, come to share their encouragement. Their book is a collection of 16 essays or letters. They are here to share their wisdom, calling us to discover and to join God's mission to love and care for a very hurting world. They are sharing with honesty, vulnerability, humility and wisdom from their own life experiences. They are beloved and trusted mentors. They invite us into a thought-provoking exploration of the many facets of the Christian culture care and culture-making in all areas - from the kitchen, hospitality, generosity, gardening all the way to Carnegie Hall and Grammy Awards. They talk to us about the theology of imagination and creativity, a vocation that provides a framework for all of life. I've found them providing a model for expressing love in marriage, in friendship, in citizenship, and every kind of work, even in the midst of our culture of cynicism, fear, exhaustion, oppression. I have found that each one of these 16 letters is a gentle, wise, humble, vulnerable, and thought-provoking nudge in the direction of God's powerfully ordinary purpose for each one of us. It doesn't matter what the future holds because we're invited to participate fully in the beautiful redemptive work of Christ. Can you begin to see why I can't wait to share this conversation with you? I hope you join us.MEET ANDI ASHWORTH AND CHARLIE PEACOCKAndi Ashworth is the author of Real Love for Real Life: The Art and Work of Caring. It’s a big deal and I am so overwhelmed with God’ goodness in allowing me to share such an essential message about delighting in Him as the true essential foundation for all our spiritual growth and maturing. It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!We are almost wrapping up our time together with Matthew. Can I say this is bittersweet for me? So, following from last week, I invite you to continue our intriguing journey into the world of Jesus’ parables! Last week, we laid the foundation by understanding the purpose of parables - fulfilling prophecy, focusing on individuals with faith, and describing the kingdom of God. In Matthew 13, Jesus begins his teachings on the mystery kingdom, which plays a crucial role in the epistles of Paul. This mysterious kingdom sets the stage for the parables we're about to explore.Let's start by unpacking the parable of the wheat and the tares. Picture a man sowing good seed in his field, only to find weeds sprouting among the wheat later. Jesus explains privately to his disciples that the good seed represents the sons of the kingdom, while the weeds symbolize the sons of the evil one. The field is the world, and the enemy is the devil. What's fascinating is that true sowing of God's word will always be countered by false teachings. False gospels, trying to soothe the human heart, preach salvation by works. But the true gospel is salvation through God's grace in Christ Jesus alone. Jesus emphasizes that the true and false teachings will coexist until judgment day. So beware of false teachings and remain steadfast in the truth of God's word!Moving on to the parable of the mustard seed. A tiny seed, but when it grows, it becomes a towering tree where birds come to nest. The kingdom of heaven starts small but expands mightily. This parable symbolizes the growth and influence of God's kingdom. It reminds us that even the smallest beginnings can lead to great impact. So let your faith be like that mustard seed, growing and spreading far and wide!As we immerse ourselves in these parables, let's remember that Jesus is teaching all Christians across time and space. Not everyone who claims to be a Christian truly belongs to Christ. Let our lives reflect the truth and reality of a surrendered heart! Keep seeking, keep growing, and keep shining your light in the world! Are you looking for a place to take notes, some topics to research on your own, or some questions you could ponder to go deeper during your quiet time with God or with a friend? S13 Ep 309Finding peace in an anxious world | with Alan Fadling

Stephanie here. How do we overcome anxiety, and embrace peace? More than ever, our daily life seems to fight us on this quest. Do you, like so many of us, see anxiety as an incentive to perform? Or a proof of how much you care? Or is anxiety simply an unwelcome shadow over your days, bringing with it clenched teeth and an upset stomach?Today is an invitation to step into a life characterized by peace, grace, and gentleness, replete with the palpable presence of God. God promises us that it is ours in Christ Jesus. The world does it best to make it impossible. So, which one will it be?Anxiety leads us to succumb to fear and fight peace. Anxious living is a distortion of good motives, blocking the clarity of stillness and rest. Peace is the antidote to anxiety. This peace is found in practicing God's presence and embodying the virtues of grace, found in Christ. But, what does it look like, and how do we get there? This week I welcome Alan Fadling back on the show to dive into a real and raw conversation about overcoming anxiety and finding peace. Alan has felt mastered by worry, but he brings counsel on how to learn a better way and who to look to for it: Jesus, "the ultimate non-anxious presence." He constructs a posture from which we can rest more deeply, live more fully, and lead better. Fixing our minds on grace and eternity, we can begin to see the benefit of loosening our grip and operating from a sure foundation.Alan candidly shares his personal journey, highlighting how anxiety, coupled with perfectionism, led to a cycle of high standards, achievements, and ultimately, dissatisfaction and discouragement. His honest portrayal of himself as a "recovering perfectionist" resonated deeply with me – and I suspect I am not the only one! Alan's emphasis on progress over perfection reminds us that growth is a journey, not a destination. This is a deeply biblical message that our culture has us forget all too easily. And so we find that grace, with its essence of unmerited favor and unconditional love found in Christ, becomes a transformative force, offering solace and redemption in the face of anxiety. This is one of the key messages of Scripture. Alan also shares with us the practice of embodying God's presence and cultivating "little virtues" such as humility, patience, gentleness, dependence, and surrender. He tells us about learning patience in the chaos of Southern California traffic, reminding us that it's the simple things that steer us towards a peaceful life, even when the world seems to have gone upside down. This underscores the significance of relinquishing the incessant pursuit of materialistic and ambitious goals in favor of humility and grace.Scripture makes clear the importance of faith, imagination, and embracing an "unhurried influence." Rattling through life at top speed isn't the secret to peace. Alan’s prayer for the audience to grow in unhurried influence is an open invitation to take the scenic route, savouring the moments, and stepping into a life ruled by peace, grace, and gentleness. So, as you sail away from this episode, remember - peace isn't found in the rush-rush of everyday life, but in the sweet, steady rhythm of grace in Christ Jesus.MORE ABOUT ALAN FADLINGAlan serves as a frequent speaker, consultant and retreat leader with local churches and national organizations such as InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Halftime Institute, Apprentice Institute, Saddleback Church, and Open Doors International. Div., Fuller Theological Seminary) is President and Founder of Unhurried Living, Inc. in Mission Viejo, CA, inspiring people to rest deeper, live fuller and lead better. S13 Ep 308Add a dash of mystery and spice to your experience of Jesus through His parables

I could not be happier to have you with me today as we dive deep into the parables of Jesus, asking His help to understand His message to us today. Parables have always been a powerful tool used by rabbis to reinforce conventional wisdom. But when Jesus sits down and starts speaking in parables, he adds a sprinkle of mystique that captivates His audience.Matthew 13:1-3 tells us that Jesus wasted no time once He was openly rejected in Matthew 12 (see previous episode). And these parables reveal what lies ahead as a result of his generation's rejection. But why parables? Three reasons stand out. First, Jesus came to fulfill prophetic teachings (Matthew 5:17). By using parables, He connects the Old Testament prophecies to His message and shows that the Messiah spoke in parables too. Second, parables shift the focus from mass appeal to individual faith. Jesus emphasizes the importance of personal belief, rather than trying to convince the masses. Thirdly, Jesus respects our free will and wants our faith to be genuine. He could have performed undeniable miracles, but He loves nothing more than a heart filled with faith. Faith and sight cannot coexist, and He leaves room for questions, so we can choose to believe. So, buckle up as we embark on a journey where parables unravel the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. From fulfilling prophecies to focusing on individual faith, these teachings hold the key to understanding Jesus' message. I promise you a feast for the mind and soul as we dissect each parable and discover the layers of meaning within. There's so much more to explore in the New Testament and the Old Testament! The parables highlight the consequences of the generation's rejection of Jesus. These stories hold deep significance for over 2000 years of gentile-dominant Christendom. Intriguing, right? So, let's savor the spiritual spices and flavors that the parables have to offer. As we feast on the Gospel of Matthew, we'll gain insights, wisdom, and a fresh perspective on Jesus' teachings. The finish line is just ahead, but the journey of faith continues! Even as we get ready to soon bid farewell to Matthew after almost eight months within the pages of his gospel, our spice journey continues! With just a few episodes left in the Gospel of Matthew, we're reaching a bittersweet finish line. Until then, let's unwrap the rich layers of the parables together today! Are you looking for a place to take notes, some topics to research on your own, or some questions you could ponder to go deeper during your quiet time with God or with a friend? Stephanie here. I think today is the first time that I am welcoming an author on the show to talk about a memoir. I don't think I've ever done memoirs, but this one just gripped my heart. I just had to share it with you. I met Lisa-Jo Baker a few years ago at a friend's party. I was mesmerized by her story, her depth, her intelligence. She has serious brain power, but also kindness, thoughtfulness, and truly empathetic other-centeredness.“It was not roaring, it was weeping” is the title of her memoir. It's an honest and lyrical, almost poetic coming of age memoir of growing up in South Africa at the height of apartheid. It's an invitation to confront or inherited traumas or prejudices. It is also an invitation to forgive our parents, so that we won't repeat the same mistakes. It is an invitation to dig deep inside ourselves and nurture self-awareness, so that we understand what triggers us, so we can rewire our minds to stop repeating harmful patterns, both individually and communally. It is an invitation to cultivate forgiveness and grace as the only way forward as humanity, together. When she found herself spiraling into a terrifying version of her father, screaming herself hoarse at her son, Lisa-Jo Baker realized that to go forward—to refuse to repeat the sins of our fathers—we must first go back. This is an unflinching look at a family that got it wrong and a real life example for all who feel worried they’re too off-course to make the necessary corrections. Lisa-Jo’s story shows that it’s never too late to be free.Born white in the heart of Zululand during the height of apartheid, Lisa-Jo Baker longed to write a new future for her children—a longing that set her on a journey to understand where she fit into a story of violence and faith, history and race. Before marriage and motherhood, she came to the United States to study to become a human rights advocate. When she naively walked right into America’s own turbulent racial landscape, she experienced the kind of painful awakening that is both individual and universal, personal and social.Years would go by before she traced this American trauma back to her own South African past. Lisa-Jo was a teenager when her mother died of cancer, leaving her with her father. Though they shared a language of faith and justice, she often feared him, unaware that his fierce temper had deep roots in a family’s and a nation’s pain. Decades later, old wounds reopened when she found herself repeating the violent patterns of her childhood in her own parenting. Only then did she begin the journey back to the beginning to find a way to break old cycles and write a new story for her family and the next generation.MEET LISA-JO BAKERLISA-JO BAKER is a bestselling author with a BA in English/prelaw from Gordon College and a JD from the University of Notre Dame Law School. Lisa-Jo has lived and worked on three continents in the human rights field and subsequently spent nearly a decade leading the online community of women called (in)courage as their editor in chief and community manager. Originally from South Africa, Lisa-Jo now lives just outside Washington, D.C., where she met and fell in love with her husband in the summer of ’96. Their story together spans decades, languages, countries, books, three very opinionated children, and one dog.https://lisajobaker.com/ We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with.Go to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! It's a burning question, and today, we're diving deep into Matthew 12 to unravel this mystery. Get ready for a mind-blowing ride! Let's start with a personal story. I recently reached out to a loved one, eager to share my faith in Jesus. I knew the possibility of rejection was high, but my heart was sincere. Just like Jesus, I offered love, knowing it might not be accepted. In Matthew, Jesus extends an offer of Messiah to His generation, fully aware that they would reject Him. Why? Well, because He is omniscient. God knew the response beforehand. But here's the mind-bending part: the offer wasn't completely removed. It was postponed. The rejection of Jesus by that generation of Jews was a part of God's ultimate plan for redemption. Their rejection led to something remarkable - the church age. You see, the church age, which we are in now, is a brand new revelation that stemmed from the Jews' rejection of Jesus. God didn't mention the church age in the Old Testament because it depended on the Jews' decision. It's like prophecy, watching mountain tops from a distance. The Old Testament prophets didn't see the valley of the church age between Jesus' first and second comings. It's in the New Testament, available to everyone, that the secrets are revealed to those who listen. The church age is a mystery unfolding. The New Testament was written quickly by a generation who knew Jesus or were close to someone who did. They recorded the teachings and acts of Jesus, including His plea for the generation to embrace Him as the Messiah. Even individuals from that initial rejection group, like Nicodemus and Paul, were granted grace to change. Paul became the apostle to the Gentiles, revealing the mystery of the church age. Jesus started teaching this mystery to individuals after the nation rejected Him. In Matthew 13, Jesus shares parables that provide a timeline and description of what will happen. The church age continues until Jesus comes again. We are in this incredible, unpredictable chapter of God's plan. So, why did Jesus offer Himself as Messiah to a generation He knew would reject Him? Because God's perfect plan unfolds through rejection, grace, and redemption. The rejection of Jesus by the Jews is the ultimate redemption for believers. Awe-inspiring, isn't it?Are you looking for a place to take notes, some topics to research on your own, or some questions you could ponder to go deeper during your quiet time with God or with a friend? How important does it seem to you? Stephanie says, "Ascension has become one of my most cherished treasures, because it speaks of a hope that is certain, and a future that is glorious. First, Ascension means that a human body is present in the Throne Room of God right now – that is Jesus Christ today. His incarnation made Jesus a member of humanity; His Ascension made His membership permanent. I cannot wrap my head around this, but one thing I can do is fall on my face to worship in awe and wonder."It all started with an invitation to write an article about it (see below). After she turned it in, she felt compelled to share her latest discoveries about this beautiful, underestimated feast of Ascension with you today.Remember to use your FREE listening guide to follow along in this episode! You will receive it automatically in your inbox as a Gospel Spice newsletter subscriber, so make sure to subscribe for free at gospelspice.com/signup !Here is the article she wrote about it, and which inspired this episode:"God has a special message for us this Ascension season, if we will ponder the things above with holy expectancy of His goodness.Ascension has become one of my most cherished treasures, because it speaks of a hope that is certain, and a future that is glorious. First, Ascension means that a human body is present in the Throne Room of God right now – that is Jesus Christ today. His incarnation made Jesus a member of humanity; His Ascension made His membership permanent. I cannot wrap my head around this, but one thing I can do is fall on my face to worship in awe and wonder. The corollary to Ascension, Pentecost, means that the Spirit of God is present in human flesh right now – that is you and me today. Ascension and Pentecost tell us that Christ reconciles God to man in His own body. He declares at Pentecost our ultimate reality: “on earth as it is in heaven!” He declares at Ascension the corollary, “in heaven as it is on earth!” Just as He was God on earth, He is now human in heaven. Just as He prayed as God on earth for us, He prays now as our Great High Priest in heaven for us. Ascension and Pentecost are Jacob’s ladder, a two-way relationship of body and spirit, earth and heaven, reconciled in One.Upon His ascension, Jesus, in His glorified human body, received from the Father the Holy Spirit, whom He sent to us to inhabit our own not-yet-glorified bodies. Heaven will be intoxicatingly delightful. So unbearable for our current bodies, in fact, that we will be given brand new, glorified bodies – like Christ’s – so that we can withstand the intensity of delight and pleasure that awaits us. Our heavenly bodies will be like a chocolate masterpiece to our current cocoa-pod bodies: similar, but unimaginably more glorious. From starter seed to perfected fruit. We have yet to experience heavenly chocolate, so we struggle to see its connection to our humble cocoa pod-like current body. It is ultimately a matter of time. We are the “body of Christ” – it means in some real way we are in the Throne Room with Him already. It is ultimately a matter of space. Good thing heaven is beyond time and space.Jesus described His ascension to Mary Magdalene as His going “to my Father and your Father; to my God and your God.” (John 20:17). This is astounding. Jesus is irreversibly identifying with us: His Father is our Father; His God is our God. It means, in essence, that He represents God to man, and man to God: this is the role of the Great High Priest. Had Jesus not ascended to heaven, he could not officiate as our Great High Priest right now, fulfilling at least three primary missions for the church age: interceding for us, teaching us to pray, and making things above real for us. Let’s unpack, seeking continually the things that are above.First, Jesus is interceding for you rig

Join us as we dive into the transformative power of Jesus and the mosaic of people forming the Kingdom of Heaven! Let's explore the rich tapestry of stories in the Gospel of Matthew and discover the incredible ways each person adds their unique flavor of mint. Last week, we met a leper, a gentile centurion, and a bold woman who challenged the rulers. Now, we're introduced to Matthew himself, a former tax collector who boldly declares Jesus as Messiah. I invite you to join me and witness Matthew's gutsy conversion story. It is moving, tender, and powerful. He leaves everything to follow Jesus, and in doing so, publicly defies the rulers. Jesus' reply to the Pharisees' question about eating with tax collectors and sinners exposes their own merciless contradictions – and honors Matthew’s young faith.Next, Jesus addresses fasting, and specifically, why His disciples don't fast like the Pharisees and John the Baptist's followers. He explains that the bridegroom, Jesus himself, is here, and it's a time for celebration. Fasting will come when he's taken away, showing the importance of regular fasting for seeking God's will. Jesus goes on to challenge the Pharisees' reliance on the Oral Law and emphasizes the fulfillment of the Written Law through His work on the cross. The Pharisees are sure to get hysterical over this! The intertwined stories of Jairus and the bleeding woman showcase the unwavering faith that unites people from all walks of life. Jairus, a synagogue leader, and an unnamed woman who defied the Law to touch Jesus's tassels, both find hope and healing in Messiah's surpassing grace. As we continue to experience Jesus ever deeper as our Rabbi and Lord through the eyes of Matthew, let's remember that each person in the Kingdom of Heaven adds a unique flavor of mint. Their stories of faith, courage, and redemption remind us that Jesus invites us all to be part of this incredible mosaic.I could not be more delighted to have you tagging along with me in the hallowed pages of Scripture today. I hope you will find your faith strengthened, and your time well used. S13 Ep 303Ignite the phoenix within | with Kara Swanson

It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!I had the joy to engage in a heartfelt conversation with my dear friend Kara Swanson, discussing the importance of grace, self-awareness, and the transformative power of storytelling. Through her personal journey and the characters she breathes life into in her fiction books, Kara intricately weaves together themes of resilience, healing, and the significance of self-awareness in shaping our personal narrative towards deeper faith. Her commitment to guiding and empowering young writers also reflects her own journey of finding purpose and connection.Kara beautifully articulates the power of storytelling as a means of finding identity, especially when navigating cultural differences and personal experiences. Growing up as a missionary kid, Kara felt isolated and found solace in the world of fiction. Through her writing, she sought to process her own experiences and bridge cultural divides through the lens of the gospel. Her focus on young adult fiction takes readers on a journey of self-discovery and personal empowerment, inviting both young and seasoned readers to reflect on their own journeys.Kara emphasizes the importance of extending grace to ourselves and others, understanding the impact of cultural influences on one's sense of self-worth and identity. Through her characters in her upcoming book "Ignite," Kara captures the transformative power of self-awareness and the impact of external influences on personal growth. She underlines the significance of surrounding ourselves with healthy relationships and support systems as we navigate our journey for deeper self-awareness, to lead us deeper into God in Christ Jesus through the Holy Spirit.Kara's advocacy through her storytelling encourages readers to embrace their emotions without letting them define their worth. Her commitment to creating characters that embody selflessness and resilience resonates deeply, offering an invitation for healing, growth, and self-acceptance.A few take-aways I will treasure from our conversation:1. Self-awareness leads to God-awareness. It takes a lot of accumulated wisdom to know yourself well, which is necessary to enter into deeper intimacy with God in Christ through the Holy Spirit.2. Give yourself grace and move forward with care and intention.3. Let your journey of God-ward healing reflect in your work and personal growth.4. Don’t be afraid to address themes of identity and personal responsibility, especially when ministering to young people.5. Question the narratives fed to you by the surrounding culture, and discover your true purpose in Christ.6. Strive for self-awareness, introspection, and the journey towards an other-centered mindset, in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.7. Channel your experiences into creative outlets to process pain and empower others.8. Understand that feelings are real but not always true; they don't define your value or worth.9. Seek self-awareness and surround yourself with healthy, godly Christ-centered believers for support and growth.10. Support and encourage others, despite differences in experiences and self-awareness.CONNECT WITH KARA SWANSONKara Swanson writes stories about fairy tales and fiery souls. She spent her childhood a little like a Lost Girl, running barefoot through lush green jungles which inspired her award-winning Peter Pan retellings, Dust and Shadow. She is also the cofounder of the Author Conservatory where she has the honor of teaching young writers to craft sustainable author careers. You’ll find Kara with her toes in California sand as a SoCal resident, belting Broadway show tunes on weekend drives to Disneyland with her delightfully nerdy husband, or chatting about magic and mayhem on Instagram (@karaswansonauthor).Author Conservatory: https://authorconservatory.comWebsite: https://www.karaswanson.com/Social Media:https://www.instagram.com/karaswansonauthor/ ht

There are over 600 types of mint, and each one has its own unique flavor profile, ranging from pineapple to chocolate to lavender. Mint truly is a multitasker in the world of spices. Just like the citizens of the kingdom of heaven, who come from all walks of life. Mint needs a humid soil to produce richly scented leaves. Similarly, we need Jesus, the water of life, to bring flavor and meaning to our lives. Without Him, we're just flavorless grass. Let's be like mint and embrace the diverse flavors within the kingdom of heaven! Now let's shift our focus to the citizens of the kingdom of heaven. Jesus welcomes everyone, regardless of their background or past. It's like a minty guest list, including lepers, Romans, women, and even former zombies. Yes, you read that right! A Roman centurion, an unlikely candidate, amazed Jesus with his great faith. He recognized Jesus' authority and knew that just a word from Him could heal his servant. Faith, not abilities or background, is what truly amazes Jesus. Next, Jesus heals Peter's mother-in-law, showing His compassion and power. He touches her hand, and she is instantly healed. Just like mint, which has the power to refresh and invigorate. He took our weaknesses and carried our diseases.Throughout these events, Jesus challenges the religious norms and surprises everyone. He invites us all to be citizens of the kingdom of heaven, regardless of our past. So, let's embrace the diverse flavors within the kingdom and the fresh minty scent of Christ. Stay tuned for more stories about the kingdom of heaven and how it functions. We will explore the parables and discover the flavors and tastes within the kingdom. There's an exciting adventure ahead! S13 Ep 301The wood between the worlds | theopoetics of the Cross with Brian Zahnd

Stephanie here. Obviously, I love every single guest I welcome on the show because otherwise, I wouldn't welcome them. And I read every single book. But once in a while, there's one that makes you pause, take a deep breath, and ponder deeply. This is what happened when I read “The Wood Between the Worlds” by Brian Zahnd. Just take a moment and ponder the title itself – I know I keep coming back to its profound poetry. It's about the Cross: Jesus and the Cross, the meanings of the Cross.Brian opens his book with these words: “I dare to write about God, which is admittedly an audacious undertaking. That a bit of sentient soil would venture to say something about the nature of the ineffable eternal must seem like the most absurd of fools errands. And yet, I venture. I cannot help myself. The depth of my fascination with the one who is the answer to the question of why there is something instead of nothing makes it impossible for me to remain silent on the subject. And when I dare to speak about God, I do so not as the idly curious but as a reverent worshipper. I seek to understand God not as a cold and dispassionate scientist, a “God-ologist,” if you will, but as one who prays, worships, and kneels before his maker.”“The Wood Between the Worlds” is made of 20 short chapters, each one a precious chocolate nugget nestled inside a fancy box. There is something Forrest Gump-like about it, too. Some of these chapters will probably unsettle you. You may not agree with everything. Just like with a box of chocolates, there might be some you like more, others less. Some spices may feel a little too pungent or not quite to your taste. And that's okay: if we only read things that we totally agree with all the time, things we completely understand, things that never challenge us, how then shall we grow? So, I invite you to be prepared to be shocked, maybe even to disagree with some of the things Brian writes. And that's okay. It's a good thing. I don't ask you to agree with everything in the book, but I would invite you to please consider allowing it to challenge you, as it has me. To do otherwise is to emulate the cancel culture we speak so easily against.Brian's publisher, InterVarsity Press, is giving away several copies of his book “The Wood Between the Worlds,” to Gospel Spice listeners. You need to be signed up for our newsletter to receive the email that will be sent out a few days after this episode airs. So, if you're not signed up, make sure to sign up now to the Gospel Spice newsletter so you can enter for a chance to win a copy of Brian's book. I'm telling you, it’s totally worth it. It’s at gospelspice.com/signup !ABOUT “THE WOOD BETWEEN THE WORLDS”The Cross is the heart of Scripture. Everything about the gospel message leads to the cross, and proceeds from the cross. In fact, within the narrative of Scripture, the crucifixion of Jesus is literally the crux of the story―the axis upon which the biblical story turns. But it would be a mistake to think we could sum up the significance of the crucifixion in a tidy sentence or two. That kind of thinking only insulates us from the magnificence of what God has done. In our ongoing quest to make meaning of the cross, we need to recognize that this conversation will never conclude―that there is always something more to be said.Brian Zahnd reminds us that the meaning of the cross is multifaceted and should touch every aspect of our lives. Just as gazing through the eyepiece of a kaleidoscope reveals a new geometric image with every turn, Zahnd helps us see that there are infinite ways to behold the cross of Christ as the beautiful form that saves the world. The Wood Between the Worlds is an invitation to encounter the cross of Christ anew.ABOUT BRIAN ZAHNDBrian Zahnd is the founder and lead pastor of Word of Life Church in St. Joseph, Missouri. S13 Ep 300When we suffer, the unveiling of Christ’s majestic glory is the firm anchor of our faith.

As we stood on that holy mountain with Peter, James, and John, we were immersed in the glory of God. But there's so much more to this incredible event. Let's dive deeper into the significance of the transfiguration. In Exodus, we see Moses encountering God on the mountain and coming down with a radiant face. But when Jesus is transfigured, His glory shines even brighter, revealing that the glory is not from without, but from within. Jesus is the light that shines in the darkness.Matthew's account of the transfiguration challenges the Jewish audience. Jesus is not just another prophet; He is God Himself. The presence of Moses and Elijah only emphasizes this truth. They, the great prophets of old, bow down to Jesus, showing His superiority. But why did Moses and Elijah choose to discuss Jesus's departure or exodus? They were there to encourage Jesus as He prepared for His upcoming death on the cross. They reminded Him that His sacrificial death would lead to His restoration and our salvation.Moses and Elijah symbolize two groups of believers. Moses, who prefigured Jesus, represents the Old Testament believers who died in faith. Elijah points to the future believers who will be translated into God's presence at the rapture. They represent us all.Jesus fulfills the law and the prophets, ushering in a new age - the age of grace or the Church. This revolutionary concept was challenging for the Jewish audience. Jesus greatly surpasses the law and the prophets. He came to fulfill them, and through His death and resurrection, a new kingdom - the mystery kingdom - was established. The Book of Hebrews reminds us that God initially spoke through the law and prophets, but in these last days, He speaks to us directly through His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the radiance of God's glory, the exact expression of His nature. Let us listen to and delight in Him!The transfiguration is a profound revelation of who Jesus is. As we join Peter, James, and John on that mountain, we are reminded of His divine glory, His sacrificial love, and His fulfillment of the law and prophets. Let's allow this truth to transform our lives. May we never forget the transfiguration, the glorious moment when Jesus's true identity was unveiled. He is the Son of God, the Light of the World, and the fulfillment of all prophecies. Let's live our lives in awe of His glory and share this Good News with the world! Are you looking for a place to take notes, some topics to research on your own, or some questions you could ponder to go deeper during your quiet time with God or with a friend? S13 Ep 299Come, Holy Spirit | with Jean-Luc Sergent

Jean-Luc shares insights on the cultural and religious landscapes of France in the last generation or so, emphasizing the importance of unity among Christians and the need for faith, love, and hope amidst challenges.I invited Jean-Luc to specifically highlight a series of songs sourced from the original song "The Blessing," which emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as a unifying force among Christians. The release of a new song in French, based on the ancient hymn "Veni Creator Spiritus", underscores the capacity of music to unite believers across cultural and linguistic boundaries, reflecting the universal impact of faith and worship. This is all happening this spring and summer, under the exciting news of the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. As an Anglican priest with a ministry rooted in both France and England, Jean-Luc Sergent brings a unique perspective to the challenges and opportunities in cross-cultural ministry. His journey from Paris to London, the influence of his wife's Catholic background on their faith, and his call to ministry at 35 reflect the interwoven experiences that have shaped his understanding of ministry amidst cultural diversity. We discuss the importance of ecumenical unity between Protestants and Catholics in France as an essential step in bridging denominational divides and standing as a testament to the power of love and faith in a diversified faith landscape. This emphasis on cooperation highlights what happens when believers of different traditions come together to share a message of hope and love under the common banner of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.Jean-Luc provides a glimpse into the cultural and religious dynamics in France, highlighting the declining percentage of practicing Catholics and evangelicals. This shift poses a significant challenge in a secularized society where the Christian faith has faced marginalization. In this context, it is essential to develop a commitment to fostering unity and cooperation in witnessing about the love of God.Here are a few insights of wisdom I will take away from this conversation, and hope to learn to role-model better in the future:- Seek unity in faith, love, and hope, especially in a secularized society.- Embrace ecumenical unity between different Christian denominations for a greater witness of God's love.- Be open to transitions and callings in life that may lead to unexpected ministry opportunities.- Look for ways to create a positive impact in my community.- Welcome the influence of the Holy Spirit and seek to align with biblical and Christian principles.- Find inspiration and comfort in the Spirit of God, especially during challenging times.- Journey in faith, while respecting the history, culture, and language of different Christian traditions.- Ponder the significance of meaningful hymns and songs in providing consolation and blessings to others.- Value collaborative efforts and movements within the church for positive change and revival. What about YOU? What did YOU take away from this conversation? I’d love to hear from you, so email us or DM us on social media! A French-style 8 or 10 course dinner, each dish a tiny masterpiece that lingers on your tongue? Well, today we're going to savor a different kind of feast, the Transfiguration of Jesus. Join me as we explore this captivating story through a culinary lens.🍽️ Course 1: The Hors d'oeuvre 🍽️Our appetizer is found in Matthew 16:15, where Jesus poses a profound question: "Who do you say that I am?" This sets the stage for the miracles and masterpieces that follow, leading up to the ultimate entree of the Transfiguration.🍽️ Course 2: The Exquisite Entree 🍽️Imagine a mountain, a high peak where Jesus takes Peter, James, and John. Suddenly, Jesus is transformed, radiant like the sun, his clothes white as light. And then, Moses and Elijah appear, conversing with him. An awe-inspiring sight, the pinnacle of this divine feast.🍽️ Course 3: The Beloved Son 🍽️Amidst the ethereal encounter, Peter suggests building tabernacles for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. But in that breathtaking moment, a voice from a bright cloud declares, "This is my beloved Son. I take delight in him. Listen to him." The affirmation of Jesus' divine identity.🍽️ Course 4: Awestruck Disciples 🍽️Overwhelmed, the disciples fall face down in fear. Jesus comforts them, and as they look up, they see only Him. The transfiguration experience imprints upon their hearts, forever etched in their memories.🍽️ Course 5: The Unveiled Mystery 🍽️As they descend from the mountain, Jesus commands the disciples to keep this vision a secret until the Son of Man is raised from the dead. A tantalizing mystery, revealing a deeper purpose to be unveiled.🍽️ Course 6: Fulfillment & Witness 🍽️But here's where it gets interesting. Some have puzzled over Jesus' statement that some disciples won't die until they see the glory of Messiah. Enter John and Peter, who both bear witness to seeing Christ's glory, both in the transfiguration and beyond.🍽️ Course 7: The Glory Unveiled 🍽️At the transfiguration, Jesus is the visible manifestation of God's glory, the breathtaking display of the face of Jesus Christ. The veil of flesh temporarily lifted, revealing the fullness of His divine splendor. A taste of what's to come.🍽️ Course 8: A Glimpse of Revelation 🍽️Just as God commanded light to shine out of darkness, in the face of Christ Jesus, we catch a glimpse of the glory of God. The transfiguration is a moment where heaven and earth intertwine, as the disciples witness the radiance of Jesus. A truly divine encounter.🍽️ Course 9: The Feast Continues 🍽️The transfiguration is a pivotal moment in Matthew's Gospel, a foretaste of the ultimate feast to come. S13 Ep 297Heaven on earth | with Ros Evans | a Gospel Spice Conversation

It’s a great and super easy way to share the good news of God's love for us in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.**If you’re interested, please go to gospelspice.com/awakendelight and find the section about joining the launch team, or email me at [email protected] **Together, let’s encourage everyone we know with the wonderful news that, in Christ, God delights in us and invites us to delight in Him!Bonjour! Today I welcome my dear friend, team member, and regular Gospel Spice Podcast guest Ros Evans to ponder the statement we start with: Heaven is closer than we realize. How does this statement hit you? I ask Ros the same question, and then we engage in a conversation about the presence of God in our lives and God’s invitation to us as believers, to bring heaven to Earth in small, transitional ways until He establishes Heaven on Earth. We invite you to embrace the mystery of heaven, engage in dynamic worship and co-creation with God, and actively participate in being the hands and feet of Christ, bringing heaven on Earth. We humbly hope to challenge you, as we ourselves are challenged, to prayerfully consider your role in bringing the transformative power of heaven into your everyday life!I start by sharing an insightful listener's email questioning the Christian responsibility to wait for heaven while actively engaging in the world. This prompted a discussion on the closeness of heaven and the ways in which we can experience and manifest God's presence on Earth. Now, of course we acknowledge the tension of not fully understanding the nature of heaven, so we draw parallels to the beauty of Eden before the fall, and the transcendent experiences described in the book of Revelation. We humbly hope to help providing you with a framework to explore the Biblical truth of the presence of God in our lives. And so, we discuss the incarnation of God in Christ Jesus as a unique and essential aspect of our faith, and the various ways in which God's presence is made visible through manifestations in the Old Testament. The goal of our conversation is to hopefully bring you rich spiritual insights, and invite you to hold your own profound reflection on how we can actively participate in bringing heaven to Earth. We also explore the Biblical teaching of worship in heaven as dynamic and active, emphasizing the idea of growth and co-creation with God. This perspective challenges the static perception of heaven: it is not about sitting on a cloud with a harp! It is stunningly active, growing, and engaged. An important topic in the conversation is the transformative impact of Pentecost, which enables believers to bring heaven to Earth through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. This pivotal event empowers believers to act as a royal priesthood, representing God to humanity and interceding on behalf of humanity to God. We spend some time exploring our role as the royal priesthood, under Jesus as our Great High Priest. We also hope to provide practical insights into living out the Lord's Prayer, specifically focusing on the line "on earth as it is in heaven." We encourage you to lean into Jesus for guidance, and to actively partake in the realization of heaven on Earth, aligning your life with God's will and purpose! On that subject, Ros does a great job emphasizing the significance of bringing blessings to those in need and the stewardship of God's gifts and resources. It is not too late to be one of those who, in Christ, participates in bringing heaven to earth! The Lord calls us to a sense of urgency in taking action in the present moment. Think of the thief on the cross who experienced a transformational encounter with Christ. This serves as a powerful reminder for us to embrace our role in bringing heaven to Earth and to be ready to answer the call without delay. We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with.Go to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests!
