This week, Ben and Tom of Will Continue To Monitor are back to guest host with Tina. Together they tell the story of William Argie, a physician assistant in New Hampshire who was married to Maureen, a social worker. Ep 163Good Nurse Practitioner Tracy McCarter Bad Nurse Brent Mott
***Trigger Warning: The following episode of Good Nurse Bad Nurse contains sensitive information of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Discretion is advised. This week Nurse Keith is back to guest host a very special episode of Good Nurse Bad Nurse. In this episode, we will be bringing awareness to the problem of survivors of domestic abuse being criminalized. They open the show with the story of Brent Mott, a nurse from Merseyside, UK. Brent and his wife Kate had reached the end of their marriage and divorce loomed on the horizon. On the night of January 21, 2010, a physical altercation erupted between the couple. Brent claimed that he was returning home from an evening out when Kate, also a nurse, lunged at him with a peeler knife during an argument over the divorce proceedings. Brent alleged that his actions that followed stemmed from self-defense. The good nurse story is an update to a story we previously did on nurse practitioner Tracy McCarter. Tracy's community defense team reached out to us to let us know that while we mostly discussed correct information, there were some parts that we got wrong. They gave us a couple of articles that contain more accurate information for us to reference. Tracy had divorced her abusive husband and was living in her own apartment. After a night of drinking, he came to her apartment after locking himself out of his own. He became enraged at one point and was injured by a knife Tracy had picked up to defend herself against him. Tracy immediately got help and began trying to offer aid to him. McCarter was arrested and held without bail on Rikers Island for six months. On September 2020 her case was submitted before a grand jury by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. She was indicted for second-degree murder and manslaughter and released to home confinement and electronic monitoring where she still is trying to fight for her freedom. Tracy's daughter Ariel joins Tina and Nurse Keith to discuss Tracy's case and help shed some light on her mother's story and others' like hers. Please support our show by supporting our sponsors! Ep 162Good Robot Nurse Bad Patient Nurse
This week Tina is once again joined by Tom with Just Some Podcast for Advanced Practitioners. Together, they tell you the tragic story of a shooting that took place at a plastic surgeon's office in 1997. On July 3, 1997, Dr. Michael Tavis and his office manager Kay Carter were gunned down in cold blood when they arrived to work that morning. Investigators would have to sift through multiple patients who had sued Dr. Tavis for negligence and malpractice in order to find the person who committed this heinous crime. They close the show with a first on Good Nurse Bad Nurse...a robot nurse. Before you get too upset about how that sounds, the company has no intention of replacing humans with robots, but it does seem to offer some relief to overworked nurses and understaffed units. Ep 157Good Congresswoman Nurse Bad Urologist Ingolf Tuerk
This week Tina is joined by Mark, her better half and head of all things IT for Good Nurse Bad Nurse. Together they tell the story of Dr. Infgolf Tuerk. Ep 152Good South Florida Doctors Bad Doctor Ronald Mikos
This week, Tina is joined by Tom and Ben of Just Some Podcast for APRNs. Together, they tell the story of Dr. Ronald Mikos. Dr. Mikos was making between 250 – 300 thousand dollars a year, which was a couple hundred thousand dollars over what other podiatrists were making in the area. When the federal government started interviewing his patients, they discovered he had been billing for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of procedures that seemed suspicious for a foot doctor. He was able to manipulate his patients into lying for him...all but one that is. A disabled and retired nurse refused to play his game and was all set to testify against the doctor until one night just days before the hearing, she was silenced forever. They close the show with the inspiring story of 75 doctors in South Florida who created a united front in order to emphasize the importance of being vaccinated. Ep 147Good Neurodivergent Nurse Bad Nurse Jennifer Nibbe
This week Tina is joined by Jami of the hit nursing podcast The Neurodivergent Nurse. Together, they tell you the absolutely perplexing case of nurse Jennifer Nibbe. When police arrived at Jennifer Nibbe's home, she told them she had heard a loud noise while in the bathroom and saw a masked man standing over Jim with her shotgun. She told the investigators she believed he had the intention of assaulting her, but he was spooked by the family dog before he could. Brady, her son, was asleep in his room and slept through the entire attack unharmed. He told the police that he didn’t hear or see anything. They close the show by discussing Jami's hit podcast, The Neurodivergent Nurse, and why even if you have been told by professors or other nurses that you "don't have what it takes to be a nurse", you should never give up on your dreams! Ep 146Good HIV Nurse Bad HIV Doctor
This week, Tina is joined by ICU nurse and educator Justin Alves with DKB Med. Together, they discuss the troubling story of Dr. Sam Chachoua, a trained medical doctor who turned to alternative medicine and lied about the results. Made infamous over claims that he cured a famous Hollywood actor, his dangerous, unproved methods almost killed the famous actor and could have impacted countless other people. We will also talk about the incredible story of Mary Magee, the first U.S. medical provider to accidentally contract HIV from a patient. Known as “Jane Doe” for many years, Mary has been an advocate for nurses, the LGBTQ+ community, and worked to end the stigma associated with HIV. Please support our show by supporting our sponsors! Ep 145Good Nurse Life RN Bad Newlywed Doctor
This week, Nurse Leah joins Tina to tell the inexplicable story of a doctor and nurse couple whose wedding day went horribly wrong. From the outside looking in, Scott and Kelly seemed the perfect couple; the two worked together at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was a nurse and he an anesthesiologist. They had a beautiful home and had planned a wonderful wedding. Their coworkers, friends, and family happily attended the nuptials, which quickly deteriorated with the addition of alcohol. Scott and Kelly got into an argument over money. And after his card was declined at the reception venue, Scott took off without his new bride. The party followed them back to their home, but guests quickly left after an explosive argument broke out. Tina and Leah open the show with a little chat about the fact that Leah happens to use CBD oils from CBD Stat, one of the sponsors of our podcast. They close the show honoring the life of Ebi, the nurse who created the popular Instagram account, NurseLifeRN. Please support our show by supporting our sponsors! Ep 139Good Doctor Helen Knabe Bad Pathologist Doctor
This week Tina is joined once again by Dr. Dan Weber, a registered nurse and the Head of Clinical Innovation for the travel nurse agency, Trusted Health. Together they discuss the case of a pathologist from Arkansas who wreaked havoc on the lives of many people including an Air Force veteran. They close the show with the rather dark but fascinating good doctor story of Helene Knabe. Dr. Knabe moved to Indianapolis, Indiana from Germany in 1896 after learning that females were allowed to go to medical school in the United States. She made many impressive accomplishments in her short life as a doctor, until someone entered Dr. Knabe’s apartment at the Delaware Flats and brutally cut her throat from ear to ear.
