聯合國大會即將在9月22日在紐約聯合國總部舉行，法國總統馬克宏就宣布，將在大會上與其他9個西方國家，一同承認巴勒斯坦國的地位。英國和葡萄牙，也都在當地時間21日，發表聲明宣布承認巴勒斯坦國。不過此舉遭到以色列以及美國的反對，身為東道主的美國，甚至拒發巴勒斯坦領袖阿巴斯的簽證，讓他無法親臨大會現場。此外，日本則宣布將暫緩承認巴勒斯坦，此舉得到了美國的肯定。
