伊斯蘭激進組織「ISIS」，雖然在2019年，遭到擊潰，但近年來再度蠢蠢欲動，在敘利亞地區，仍有殘餘勢力活動。去年12月，一名ISIS成員，在敘利亞對美軍人員發動攻擊，隨即引來美國的報復式空襲。而英國與法國國防單位也宣布，已經在3日，對ISIS的地下軍火設施，發動空襲，試圖防止恐怖勢力，捲土重來。
