稀土對於智慧手機、汽車和高科技武器，是不可或缺的關鍵元素。正因為中國掌握了，稀土的主導地位，4月他們宣布出口管制後，造成西方國家恐慌。現在傳出，G7和歐盟要設定稀土價格下限，鼓勵自產。同時，也準備對中國部分出口，課徵關稅。不過，外界也質疑這項措施的可行性。畢竟，自產稀土恐怕是最難的，目前中國掌握了90%的冶煉能力，歐美就算設定價格下限、鼓勵生產，恐怕也很難完全不依賴中國。
