緬甸實皆省28日下午發生規模7.7淺層強震，隨後又發生規模6.4餘震。強震導致佛寺倒塌、當地著名地標阿瓦橋也有部分落入伊洛瓦底江。美國地質調查局警告，此次地震可能導致數千人死亡，經濟損失可達緬甸GDP的2%-30%。鄰近的泰國首都曼谷感受強烈震動，一座在建大樓倒塌導致多人受困。泰國總理貝東塔也宣布曼谷進入緊急狀態，而中國雲南亦有震感。目前詳細傷亡情況仍待確認。
