美國東北部好幾個州，在剛剛過去的周末，遭到超強暴風雪襲擊。紐約、紐澤西、康乃迪克、還有麻州等六個州，先後在22日，宣布進入緊急狀態。紐約市長曼達尼，也宣布紐約市進入緊急狀態，從當地時間22日晚間9點起，到23日中午12點整，全城封城，對外橋梁和高速公路，通通關閉。
