越南對美國出口規模，在2025年大增，甚至在部分季度，超越中國，這引起美國政府注意。由於正值更換大使的時刻，川普總統打算在現任大使納柏，結束任期後，派出資深外交官威克絲接任，而威克絲的第一個大挑戰，當然就是要解決，美越貿易不平衡的問題。川普政府也指控，中國商品可能透過越南「洗產地」出口美國，一旦屬實，可能面臨40%關稅。
