隨著地緣政治緊張，目前各國正積極擺脫在稀土上依賴中國。例如日本12日就派出探勘船前往稀土礦藏豐富的南鳥島周邊，要試驗在6000千公尺海底開採稀土，創下全球首例。而這次的G7部長級會議，美國就預計要敦促各國加緊重整稀土供應鏈，降地對中國的依賴。同樣在12日，澳洲就宣布會投入台幣200多億元，用於採購並儲備用在國防和先進科技的關鍵礦物。
