尼泊爾大批民眾，在8日上街示威，抗議政下令禁用社群媒體，是在試圖限制言論自由，並對政府的貪腐問題，表達不滿。不過大規模示威，馬上就引來當局暴力鎮壓，警方出動催淚瓦斯，和高壓水砲，試圖驅散民眾，目前已傳出19人喪命，還有100多人受傷。然而，尼泊爾政府迫於民眾抗議壓力，已經在9日上午宣布政策轉彎，要撤銷社群媒體禁令。尼泊爾總理更因此請辭。
