澳洲國防部5日宣布，日本三菱重工業，成功得標，將自2029年起，供應澳洲皇家海軍，11艘最上級巡防艦。這項協議，是日本自2014年，解除軍備出口禁令後，最具份量的訂單。雖然澳洲政府聲稱，選擇日本廠商並沒有地緣政治考量，但國際關係專家指出，這個採購案，必會增強日澳之間的合作關係，以及共同抑制中國的效力。
