香港首富李嘉誠旗下長和集團先前宣布，擬將巴拿馬港口出售給以貝萊德集團為首的美國投資財團，卻遭巴拿馬運河管理局質疑該交易恐違反「中立原則」。中方也表態支持巴拿馬捍衛主權。目前該交易尚未通過中國審查；外界推測，若要過關，可能需排除具爭議的巴拿馬雙港或引入中國港口營運商。另有分析認為，巴國政府或將收回港口重新公開招標，使中資徹底失去控制權。
