過去，托運行李、選位與機上餐點，都是商業航班的標準配備，但現今許多航空公司卻以各種名目提高托運行李的收費，以賺取每年高達數十億美元的收益。就連多年來提供行李免費托運的美國西南航空公司，也在近期宣布這項政策告終，轉為第一件托運行李須付費35美元（約新台幣1千元）的費用。
