美中先前在日內瓦達成共識，互降關稅。但時隔不久，川普突然發文，批評中國違反雙方達成的初步貿易協議，還說自己『當好人當到這裡為止』。川普隨後又說，相信他會和習近平通話，來解決問題。除此之外，川普宣布，鋼鐵輸美關稅加倍，將從25%，提高至50%，從6月4日開始實施。
