目前，日本已有部分地方政府，及民間企業開始實施「周休三日制」。熊本市政府在四月開始也跟進試行，期望能夠改變公務員，傳統的工作模式，並為其他企業與地區提供一個可借鏡的範例。然而，全面推行此制度仍面臨諸多挑戰，除了多數企業仍施行「周休二日制」，要如何在不影響，工作效能的情況下實現工時壓縮，依然是一項重大難題。
