Show Notes
A group of ten seniors, all newcomers to stand-up comedy, recently stole the show in Glasgow, performing after just four weeks of training. The event, part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festivals Old Ones Are The Best showcase, challenged the notion that comedy is a young persons game. The course, a collaboration between The Social Hub, Age Scotland, and the festival team, aimed to boost confidence, combat loneliness, and redefine aging. The participants, including seventy-four-year-old Ronnie Bergman and eighty-eight-year-old Marie MacLaren, shared their positive experiences, with one in ten older Scots dealing with constant loneliness and thirty-six percent of over-fifties missing out on fun activities. Pro comedian Viv Gee guided them through joke writing, stage presence, and timing, sparking interest in further performances. The event underscored that age is no barrier to pursuing passions.
