MUMS Project: A Creative Sanctuary for New Moms in Glasgow

The MUMS project, a creative initiative for new moms in Glasgows Southside, is culminating in a public exhibition after a successful year of workshops. Founded by artist Marie-Claire Lacey, MUMS aimed to connect moms with babies under one through art and peer support, providing safe spaces during the challenging early motherhood phase.

The free sessions, held on Sunday evenings for moms only and Wednesday afternoons with babies welcome, covered various art forms led by artists. The project fostered a sense of community and alleviated the daily stress of motherhood.

The upcoming exhibition will showcase the projects outcomes, including textile talismans, sculptures from household items, a group map of Queens Park, sound pieces, videos, and abstract paintings. Marie-Claires own art, inspired by the challenges moms face in the arts, will also be featured.

Backed by Creative Scotland funds and local trusts, MUMS demonstrates how small spaces can create significant changes. Follow their Instagram at mumsglasgow for more.
