S2 Ep 277Gina Gardiner & Friends with Kia Aileen

I’m Kia Aileen… and I see you. I see you because I was you. I felt so stuck and overwhelmed. With a background in legal and corporate careers that span more than 25 years, I understand, all too well, about the pressures that can accumulate when trying to balance work, family and life. Following a bout of severe anxiety, I decided to focus on my own healing and retrained in numerous holistic and spiritual therapies while working full time. It was the path I had been looking for and I managed to ease some of that anxiety and pressure – for a while. The second time the anxiety returned, I was able to go within and ask – “What’s really going on here?” I understood that my body was reflecting what my soul wanted. I was suffocating under the pressure of having the perfect career, being the perfect wife and step-mother, being the perfect daughter. And I didn’t feel I was getting any of it right. So I took the leap. I chose to follow my heart and trust the pull to help others discover who they really were and what they truly wanted. In 2015, I left my job and started my own counselling and coaching practice and I haven’t looked back since. Has it always gone smoothly? No! Have I always gotten it right? Hell no! Have I grown? Immensely and I continue to grow everyday. So, who do I serve? I serve people like you. I have worked with professional women and entrepreneurs around the world who know it’s time to rid themselves of self-doubt, stuckness, procrastination and self-sabotage. Women who are ready to get crystal clear on who they are and their unique path in the world. I combine numerous mindset, energetic and spiritual modalities to: unpick the trauma, beliefs and stories that are keeping you stuck, create solid foundations for a balanced mental, emotional and spiritual connection, andrealign with the intelligence of your body, so that you can hear from within what you truly desire and how you can achieve it. I love working the energy of the mind-body-spirit connection to help clients develop rockstar intuition and unwavering faith in their direction. I so am passionate about helping people answer the call of their souls that in addition to my private practice, I also teach Qigong for classes and retreats; as well as Life Coaching, Energy Psychology and Counseling for Relationships at the world-renowned Holistic Healing College in London. When I’m not doing that, you can usually find me spending time with my family and two dogs, Stan and Ollie. Website: https://kiaaileen.com

S2 Ep 274Gina Gardiner & Friends with Jessica Ruth Shepard

Helping others be their healthiest version of themselves is what I’ve done as a holistic health coach and bodyworker for over 23 years. That doesn’t mean I haven’t had to learn my own lessons about what it means to transform your health—on all levels—and continue to do so. A little while back things got very dark when a virus ran through my kidney, causing complications, and even a heart embolism scare. And on top of that, the severe back and leg pain I had been managing already for many years, got much worse. I was so sick that every doctor I met said they couldn’t believe I didn’t die. Some people who knew me said, “How could this happen to a health practitioner? You’re so healthy!” Well, it happens, and for all sorts of reasons. Coming home from the hospital and letting people help me was really challenging for me. I was ashamed, embarrassed, and beyond lost. Part of me thought I had somehow failed. I knew I couldn’t spend much time stuck in self-blame or my sickness would drag on. And I knew that I couldn’t just go back to my previous state—I had to use this experience to learn a whole other realm of “self-care”. Because I didn't just need the immediate medical care; I had to seek out a full-on recovery path! And I couldn’t do a big thing like that alone. We never can do these things alone. I realized that even though I put (what I thought was) healthy food in my body, looked fit, and exercised, there was an underlying issue... I had a habit for choosing unhealthy relationships with people who didn’t treat me well, and downplaying my own worth and value along with self-destructive thought patterns. I decided that I couldn’t settle for anything less than self-love and care (just like I wouldn’t want my friends or clients to settle for either!). I was waking up to a whole other level of awareness about myself, the messages of my body, mind and spirit. Website: https://www.jessicaruthshepard.com

S2 Ep 252Gina Gardiner & Friends with Peter Grigg

It has been a year like no other for families. Wave after wave of lockdowns have pushed all families to the limit. If parenting and nurturing children was not hard enough, the global pandemic, social isolation and economic turbulence have magnified the pressure and anxiety of every possible challenge a family might face. Yet, it is in times of crisis that fundamental human values are revealed. In our communities, so many have risen to the collective challenge – in hospitals, supermarkets, food banks. The pandemic has demonstrated that we are capable of co-operating at scale with social purpose and a selflessness that many previously may not have thought possible. It is this spirit of kindness that we celebrate in this report. As Home-Start charities working with volunteers, staff and families in communities across the UK, this report highlights the humanity, humility and care that we have witnessed over the past 15 months. We surveyed families from across our network of local Home- Starts across four UK nations to explore what has made the biggest difference. Crucially, we consider how we might build on this extraordinary effort in order for society to “build back” – not just better, but fairer and kinder too. In a year when so many have yearned to get outside, it may seem odd to provide this reminder of the importance of the home environment for children. But home truly is where it starts from. Supporting parents to not just cope, but feel confident to thrive, in their role as caregivers on a day-to-day basis is what Home-Start has been doing for fifty years. We know first-hand the value of compassionate, non-judgemental, volunteer and expert support for parents and carers. In this report we shout this loudly and proudly because – after this strange period of extended isolation – childhood can’t wait. We look forward to working with families, communities, funders and decision makers in the months and years ahead to make a fairer, kinder future for families a reality. Home-Start is here to play our part. Website: https://homestartsd.org

Anna’s bio Anna is a Certified Hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner / Feminine Energy and Relationship Expert and a proud host of the “Happy on the Inside” podcast. A child abandoned by her biological father at 4, a new father-figure arriving in her family’s life at ten years of age. A knight in shining armor that provided for his family and seemed to be exactly the kind of person this broken family needed. But before long this man revealed his true colors. S2 Ep 246Gina Gardiner & Friends with Beth Veccione

Beth Veccione Bio: After qualifying as a social worker in 2017, Beth wanted to address the lack of creative and community focused support available for young people. This led her to found Care to Dance - a social enterprise that uses dance and trauma-informed approaches to support care-experienced young people, to help them feel a sense of belonging and to process what they’ve been through in a safe space, without fear of judgement. We find creative ways to help them process their experiences, the painful and positive, provide the stability consistency they likely missed growing up and help them develop relationships built on trust so they have people to turn to. By doing this, we hope to achieve our mission to improve the wellbeing of care-experienced young people through dance, and to build inclusive communities where they feel safe, supported and can express themselves freely. This year, Beth was in a car accident that left her with a broken back. She is lucky to have had an amazing support network, and strong mental resilience that she has cultivated over a long period of time. But it really brought home for her what it must be like to face challenges and dark times alone. Which is often the case for a lot of care-experienced young people. So to mark Care to Dance’s 5 year anniversary and to raise money for the young people that they support, she will have run first ultramarathon! So many young people are struggling at the moment and services are still so stretched. By undertaking this challenge, Beth wanted to show all young people just how much is possible if you put your mind to it, what you can overcome with mental strength and determination, and people backing you. Beth is also undertaking a PhD to explore the effects and benefits combining the Arts and trauma-informed approaches can have for care-experienced young people. S2 Ep 245Gina Gardiner & Friends with Noah St. John

Noah St John BIO & Links From Noah St. John: I grew up poor in a rich neighborhood. (Yes, cliché, but totally true.) You see, I was raised in a little town called Kennebunkport, Maine—one of the wealthiest communities in New England—but my family was dirt poor. My earliest childhood memories are of my parents arguing. About what? You’re right—money (and the fact that we didn’t have any). I hated that life of poverty, fear, and not-enoughness. That’s why, from a very young age, I began a lifelong quest to answer the question: “What’s the secret of success that highly successful people are keeping from the rest of us?” One day I was browsing in my church bookstore when an audiotape set fell off the shelf and landed at my feet (I swear I’m not making that up). The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. I listened to it over and over again. I decided to become a speaker and author, so I could help people transform their lives around the world. But I didn’t know how to do that yet. Then in 1997, I had two epiphanies that changed my life… The first was “The Shower That Changed Everything” when I discovered my AFFORMATIONS® Method. You can learn more about AFFORMATIONS at Afformations.com My second epiphany was when I discovered the condition of SUCCESS ANOREXIA that causes self-sabotage and the “foot on the brake” syndrome.
