Ep 29Episode 29 - Rising Stars - Ash London

From a young age it was clear that Ash London had but one ability in life – the gift of the gab. Lucky for her, that gift has landed her on television screens and radio dials for the better part of her 20’s.  After forcing herself to attend university for three years, where she earned a bachelor of communications in media, Ash set off on a London adventure that cemented a lifelong love of live music. After revelling in Ray La Montagne at Royal Albert Hall to watching a then unknown Ellie Goulding at a Camden pub, she decided that she would actually die if she did not secure a career in the entertainment industry. A few short years later it all paid off when she beat 1200 other contestants and landed her first TV gig, hosting Saturday morning music show The Loop, a role she enjoyed for three successful years.  2014 saw her branch out into radio, co-hosting Australia’s longest running radio chart show Take 40 with Angus O’Loughlin, and then launching Shazam Top 20 around the country every night across the Today network in 2015.  Continuing both shows in 2016, it was also the year that saw her serve on Australia’s first ever Eurovision Juror Panel, and also host Junior Eurovision on SBS. Ash has also made regular appearances on Ten’s The Project, and Dirty Laundry Live for ABC. She also appears as an entertainment host worldwide on Redbull TV. In 2017 Ash returned to radio, launching her national nights show across the HIT network - Ash London Live - celebrating her music passion weeknights around the country.  Her work has seen her interview everyone from One Direction to Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande to Adele, Bruno Mars to Slash. She’s talked colonics with MGMT, enjoyed a piggy back from Ed Sheeran and been invited to be the stand-in backup bass player in 5 Seconds of Summer. Ep 27Episode 27 - Andy Lee

E

Andy Lee, alongside Hamish Blake (and producer Sam Cavanagh), is half of the most successful show on FM in Australian radio history, Hamish & Andy. Hamish and Andy started as a development show on Fox in 2001, and over the next four years refined their act on late nights and weekends before moving into the national drive slot on the Today network in 2006. Their ratings were astronomical. Highlights included 25 per cent of the Melbourne Drive market and a national audience of more than 2 million. With ground breaking ideas - like the Caravan of Courage and the Tall Ships Adventure - Hamish and Andy established themselves as more than just a radio show: they are one of the most potent media brands in Australia. 2017 was their last year on radio. Ep 25Episode 25 - Robin Bailey

Robin Bailey spent nine years with Jamie Dunn and Ian Skippen on the B105 Morning Crew, dominating the Brisbane market during the 1990s and early 2000s. She then hosted 973 Breakfast for a decade with Terry Hansen and Bob Gallagher. Robin’s longevity and consistency across almost two decades on two separate shows makes her one of Brisbane’s most successful FM presenters. In 2017, Robin joined Greg Martin and Ed Kavalee for Marto, Ed & Robin, a new breakfast show on Triple M in Brisbane. In Season Four we welcome our first sponsor: Radio Monitor. Ep 24Episode 24 - Jamie Dunn

Jamie Dunn was the undisputed king of Brisbane radio, when the B105 Morning Crew was at the heart of the station's incredible ratings success during the 1990s and early 2000s. Jamie was also the voice and personality of children's character Agro. With features like 'Agro to the Rescue', 'Gotcha' calls and the Royal Children’s Hospital appeal, Jamie (alongside Ian Skippen and Donna Lynch, who was later replaced by Robin Bailey) created a Brisbane show that became the benchmark for FM breakfast radio. Jamie then joined The Morning Crew in Sydney alongside Wendy Harmer and Paul Holmes. Dunn has also hosted a variety of children's television shows, although he has retired his alter-ego Agro. Ep 23Episode 23 - Wendy Harmer

Wendy Harmer is one of the pioneers of FM radio for female presenters in Australia. She was the first female host to take a lead role in a key metro market breakfast show, and her ratings dominance in Sydney for more than a decade is yet to be matched by any female host on FM. She began her radio career in the mid 1980s on Saturday nights at 3AK, and then moved to drive ABC Radio National. She was on the board of the first ever Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 1987, and even performed a stand up routine Harmer and Stubbs at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival with fellow game changers Richard Stubbs.  From 1993 until 2004 she hosted The Morning Crew on 2Day FM with Paul Holmes and Jamie Dunn (who was later replaced by Peter Moon). She has also made her mark as a children's writer (for the Pearlie, which has been turned into an animated show), playwright and dramatist. She returned to radio in 2016 as host of ABC Sydney's 702 Mornings with Wendy Harmer. Ep 13Episode 13 - Tony Martin

Tony Martin joined the D-Gen - a truly revolutionary FM breakfast show -  in 1987,  and continued with them until 1992.  In 1995 he and Mick Molloy re-imagined the way we would listen to drive radio. They created Martin/Molloy, which became Australia’s first national drive show and dominated the FM landscape for three years. In 2006 he created one of the most talked about radio shows ever, Get This, with Ed Kavalee and Richard Marsland. The show’s fan base is as rabid today as it was a decade ago.  In 2017 he released an innovative new show, Childprrof, which is an unprodcued TV sitcom recorded live at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and released as a podcast. Tony’s success is a combination of incredible writing skills, along with the ability to perform his own words, a prodigious work ethic and an obsession with the infinite possibilities of audio. His career is a benchmark in our industry and an inspiration for anyone wanting to make comedy. 'You just don't want to waste people's time... We had this philosophy we wanted to be a show, not a shift... Every bit of it has to be good and surprising'. Ep 12Episode 12 - Richard Stubbs

Richard Stubbs literally changed the game for breakfast radio in the mid 80s as the first stand-up comedian to cross-over to breakfast radio. He started at 3XY on the Morning Zoo in 1985 before moving to MMM in the late 80s. In 1992 The Richard Stubbs Breakfast Show replaced the D-Generation, and went on to become one of the most successful shows of the time. Stubbsy then forged a new path for FM hosts by crossing over to the ABC in 2004. After 11 years of success in the afternoon slot, he made the decision to hang up the headphones at the end of 2015. Richard’s observational humour, natural intelligence and listening skills are some of the reasons why his career has been successful. 'Radio is hideously personal... My mantra's always been if someone's a moron, I'm going to be better. I'll be 10 per cent better to cover your moron-ness'.  Find out more about Richard here. Ep 11Episode 11 - Fifi Box

E

Fifi Box got her first break on the national stage as co-host of MMM's Shebang with Marty Sheargold and Byron Cooke. The show reached #1 around Australia in 2004. Her on-air chemistry with Marty is still recognised as one of the most potent combinations on FM. Fifi moved to the Today Network in 2008, hosting a national weekend breakfast show before taking on national drive with Jules Lund in 2011. The show became one of the first truly social, multi-platform shows on radio. Fifi now hosts Fifi, Fev and Byron on Fox in Melbourne.  'I just realised I’ve got to give this everything... You've got nothing to lose… I will give you everything I’ve got, because I know what it’s like to fold people’s clothing and do their ironing, and I didn’t love that.' Ep 10Episode 10 - Amanda Keller

E

Amanda Keller's contribution to radio and the community in Sydney has been so good over such a long period that she was awarded an Order of Australia in 2016. If it’s true that great storytelling is at the heart of radio’s connection to its audience, then it is easy to see why Amanda is recognised as an elite radio performer. She started her career at 2MMM in the late 90s on the Andrew Denton Breakfast Show, and their on-air partnership resulted in a #1 show. In more recent times, Amanda has reached #1 again with her great mate Brendan Jones on Jonesy & Amanda - a feat few broadcasters have achieved in the Sydney breakfast market.  'They want your loyalty, they want you to share your life, particularly breakfast radio, that's the gig... You share your life and people respond to you, and then you can be told to leave without even a chance to say goodbye to your audience.'  Game Changers: Radio is a show dedicated to the radio industry. Get in touch with our host Craig Bruce on Twitter @cb_bruce and our producer Jay Mueller @bad_producer. Ep 9Episode 9 - Matt Tilley

E

After getting his start as a writer on the Grubby and Dee Dee breakfast show at Fox in the early 90s, Matt Tilley went on to have one of the longest and most successful stints with a metro FM radio station.  Alongside Tracy Bartram, he took Fox to #1 in the late 90s, and 13 years later he still dominated the Melbourne FM landscape with Jo Stanley. Matt is a brilliant all-rounder, but he will be best remembered for his 'Gotcha Calls', which became the must-listen-to segment on Melbourne radio (often attracting the highest listenership of any breakfast show at the height of this segment) and later through the 'Gotcha Call CDs', which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity. Matt spent a year on MMM in 2014, and moved back into breakfast on the newly branded KIIS Melbourne in 2015.  'We always figured we could work harder than other shows... If it took calling people for 10 different segments just to get 30 seconds of radio, we'd do it.'
