New research from the University of Limerick reveals that strong, trust-based relationships between youth justice workers and young people significantly reduce offending behavior. The study, which analyzed Irelands Youth Diversion Projects, found that these connections enhance trust, improve coping skills, and boost self-esteem, leading to better outcomes. The research team, led by Doctor Sean Redmond, collaborated with sixteen projects, sixty practitioners, gardaí, and twenty-seven young people. The findings have shaped new national guidance for these projects and will be further promoted through webinars, events, and a six-part podcast series hosted by youth worker James Leonard.
