Ziaullhaq Safi, a 36-year-old refugee from Afghanistan, was convicted for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Sligo. The assault occurred in an alleyway after the girl and her friend met Safi near a Tesco car park. Safi offered the girl a free pizza to exploit her sexually. The victim, now 19, shared a powerful impact statement, expressing the emotional toll of the assault. Safis defense highlighted his refugee status and family, but he doesnt accept the jurys verdict. Sentencing is postponed until April 13th at Mullingar Circuit Court.
