Mayo County Council has approved a new housing project in Charlestown, featuring fifty-three homes in the Lowpark area. Dunleavy Building Systems will construct these homes on a three-hectare site, just four hundred meters from the town center. The project initially included fifty-two homes and an old house, but after council feedback, the old house was demolished, and an additional detached home was added, bringing the total to fifty-three. The development will offer a mix of family-sized homes, including seventeen two-bedroom units, twenty-four three-bedroom homes, and twelve four-bedroom detached houses. Each home will have two parking spots, a rear garden, and access to open green spaces overlooking a historic ringfort. The location is highly convenient, with easy access to schools, a GAA park, community pool, shops, and a bus stop. Permission was granted on March eighteenth, twenty twenty-six, with twenty-seven conditions attached. Appeals have four weeks to file, so the projects final details are still subject to change.
