Castlebars Orbital Connect Route: A Major Step Towards Active Travel
Castlebar is set to revolutionize active travel with the proposed Orbital Connect Route, linking eight key roads into a main spine for walking and cycling. This project, the first major step under the towns Local Transport Plan, aims to connect the town center, train station, Lough Lannagh, and several neighborhoods. The route includes busy streets like Westport Road, Lannagh Road, Humbert Way, John Moore Road, Pavilion Road, Lawn Road, Station Road, Ballinrobe Road, and Milebush Road. The goal is to make it safer and easier for people to get around without cars, promoting healthier choices and better links across the county town. Public input is crucial, with a non-statutory consultation opening on March 4th and running through April 14th. A webinar and drop-in event are also planned.
