Germany gave African Cup of Nations finalists Morocco a rough introduction to World Cup football in Group H at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in Melbourne / Naarm.
In Group F, the final match of the day saw Copa America champions Brazil enter the tournament against another tournament debutant Panama.
And the day’s action started with Italy scoring a late winner against Argentina in Group G at the Auckland / Tāmaki Makaurau stadium in New Zealand / Aotearoa.
