Talking Shit with He Valencia: We Need Socialism So Y'all Can Get Some Damn Therapy

In Episode 7, we're joined by Aloiso Wilmoth, also known by his stage name He Valencia (and his IG handle moma.ps5), a techno DJ, socialist, and cultural commentator from the United States. We talk about the mess that is woke Instagram, the rise of hardcore racial essentialism on the identitarian 'left', and the deep need for materialist politics. We also get into issues like solidarity vs allyship and what the place of humour is in resisting the famously sanctimonious Nexus.Part of the Talking Shit series.Show NotesThe Autobiography of Malcolm X (pdf)The Black Panthers on WikipediaThe Crypto Anarchist ManifestoMask MagazineWhy I'm Leaving the Cult of Wokeness by Africa BrookeThe Wretched of the Earth by Franz FanonWhat Black Life Actually Looks Like, by Cedric JohnsonRace, Class, Crisis: The Discourse of Racial Disparity and Its Analytical Discontents, by Adolph Reed Jr. and Merlin ChowkwanyunThe Ecology of Freedom: the Emergence and Dissolution of Hierarchy, by Murray BookchinPaul Gilroy on WikipediaStuart Hall on WikipediaAyishat Akanbi on TwitterThe Awokening: Clarity, Culture and Identity in the Web of Chaos, by Ayishat AkanbiHe Valencia on SoundcloudHe Valencia on Instagrammoma.ps5 on InstagramAloiso's TwitterFollow Fucking Cancelled on Instagram.Find merch in our shop.ClementineMorrigan.comJayLesoleil.comTheme song by ST x LIAM.Mixing and editing by Charlotte Dora. Refusing to be Accountable: Responsibility, Boundaries, Intervention and Punishment

In Episode 6, we discuss different situations in which people hurt others and feel hurt by others, what distinguishes one type of such an experience from another, and what sorts of responses are appropriate. We unpack the terms ‘harm’ and ‘accountability’, often used in the Nexus but seldom defined, and tease apart some of the unstated assumptions underlying them. We offer a framework for understanding responses to situations of interpersonal discord, differentiating between responsibility, boundaries, intervention, and punishment.Part of the Refusing to Be Accountable series.Show NotesAlan Robarge's Youtube channel (attachment theory)The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy, by Deb A DanaThe Revolution Starts at Home, edited by Chen, Dulani, and Piepzna-SamarasinhaFollow Fucking Cancelled on Instagram.Find merch in our shop.ClementineMorrigan.comJayLesoleil.comTheme song by ST x LIAM.Mixing and editing by Charlotte Dora. Antisocial Media: Is Clementine Morrigan a Member of QAnon?

In Episode 4, we examine social media, a crucial component of the Nexus. We discuss how social media affects our bodies and our social behaviour, as well as its impact on the production of truth. Finally, we ask some hard-hitting questions: could it be that Clementine Morrigan is actually a member of QAnon? Principles Before Personalities: An Introduction to Fucking Cancelled

In Episode 1, we introduce ourselves and share some of our own experiences with cancel culture. We then explain the goals of the pod: first, to analyze and critique what we call the Nexus, a synthesis of identitarianism, cancel culture, and social media; second, to offer spiritual, emotional, and ethical insights into exiting the Nexus; and third, to move toward a different vision for the left, grounded in freedom, solidarity, and responsibility. Finally, we explore the principles which guide our work, making explicit the ethical framework we are using in this podcast. This episode is to help orient listeners to the concepts, goals, and principles which shape Fucking Cancelled.Part of the Principles Before Personalities series.Show NotesMark Fisher, Exiting the Vampire CastleAdolph Reed Jr.'s DSA CancellationIntergalactic Memorial Carnival for David Graeber12 Step ProgramsFollow Fucking Cancelled on Instagram.Find merch in our shop.ClementineMorrigan.comJayLesoleil.comTheme song by ST x LIAM.Mixing and editing by Liv.
