Show Notes

Sacramento County officials are urging residents to attend an en banc hearing next Wednesday to block the parole of Gregory Lee Vogelsang, a man convicted of kidnapping and molesting five boys in 1999. The hearing will take place at 9 a.m. at 1515 K Street, suite 550 in Sacramento, or residents can call 916-445-4072 to leave comments. The officials are concerned that the elderly parole program, which allows inmates aged 50 or older after serving 20 years to be considered for parole, is too lenient for violent offenders. The program was started in 2014 to address prison overcrowding and has been expanded in recent years. Republican lawmakers are pushing for tougher rules, including raising the age limit and excluding child molesters from the program.
