Julia lives here in community with us, and so I’m extra excited to have her on to share her story. Julia is a truly wild mother of 3, turns out - soon to be 4, a homesteader, a gorgeous and insanely talented homemaker, and really just the embodiment of strength, fortitude, and integrity. Julia began her mothering journey quite young, having found her sweetheart at age 17. When Julia found herself unexpectedly pregnant she was already living outside mainstream culture and knew she didn’t want to birth in the hospital. Sadly though, the medical midwife she hired found ways to create drama throughout her pregnancy and birth. A huge awakening, followed by a move from L.A. to North Carolina to figure out this homestead life, brought Julia’s and my family together in organic friendship. Watch this episode HERE Jalynn was aware that the medical system was dangerous for her, as a woman, and a black mother. Thankfully, her first birth was fairly straight forward. She left the birth center clear that she would not go back, not because it was traumatic, but because it simply wasn’t worth leaving her house for.  With her second, Jalynn stepped into full responsibility with a wild pregnancy and the freebirth of her dreams surrounded by sisterhood and support in a community ashram. She fully actualized her dream birth.  We’re talking about an epic birth space decorated by a dear sister, friends chanting and vocalizing with her during birth, live flute music, and plants infused with affirmations by Toni Jones herself. It was no fear, all flow, with Jalynn completely centered and held by her community, which transitioned into a brilliantly supported postpartum as well. Jaylnn goes on to fully integrate this huge uplevel and leave nursing school to pursue a truly holistic path, which is unfolding and gaining power as she does the work to shine her light and show women the way out of the system and into sovereign birth-work. Zainab is a brilliant maiden who has blazed a path of autonomy, teaching Fertility Awareness Method and body literacy to Arab women in her mother tongue of Arabic. Zainab grew up without initiation into her first bleed, and didn’t even have a word to use for her vagina. She experienced intergenerational shame. Watch this episode HERE This may be the most important episode of the season, so I’m glad you’re tuning in this week. Today’s story is from Mina, a freebirthing mother, and RBK graduate in Serbia. Though Mina dreamt of birthing at home, she knew of no other women around her making that choice, so she birthed her first two babies in a very old school, very dark hospital. Mina faced obstetric violence and abuse and did not want to return. And so she didn’t. She freebirthed her third. When she found herself pregnant as a newly single mother, Mina of course chose freebirth again, for her breech baby, born at 44 weeks surrounded by her sweet children. Mina credits The Radical Birth Keeper School for her deep understanding of sisterhood, through which she has cultivated a blossoming community of women in her country also creating change. These women are choosing sovereign birth; they are stepping out of the system and into their full power, just as Mina did. Obviously Mina’s choice to freebirth is huge, but I was struck by the real ripple effect that happens after a woman freebirths in her community, and then devotes herself to sovereign birth-work. Mina is truly changing birth culture in Serbia, and it’s a really, really big deal. As Sister MorningStar says, “What one woman can do, all women can do.”. If Mina can do it, you can, too. Today on the show we have Savannah, a graduate of The Radical Birth Keeper School, and she’s here to tell her big and important story of birth, single motherhood, loss, and claiming her freedom as a woman. Savannah’s first birth resulted in heartbreaking, but so common, midwifery sabotage and betrayal, with a totally unnecessary transfer to the hospital. You can watch this episode HERE Today on the show, I am welcoming Nina, a graduate of The Radical Birth Keeper School. Nina lives out in northern california, and was transferred to the hospital in her first pregnancy after a planned home birth with a midwife, because her blood pressure was higher than what the midwives were willing to support. She was induced and kept in the hospital for days on end, and was imprinted with the story that she was broken and could not birth naturally.  Nina tells the beautiful story of her intentionally re-writing her internal stories throughout her second pregnancy, leaning more and more into trust, self-discovery, and intuition, as she prepares for her sovereign birth at home. Her freebirth story is a simple, inspiring example of how easefully birth works when we don’t complicate it, and when we do the real work of really learning to trust ourselves. This is the work that choosing sovereignty primes us for, and what Nina showcases in her powerful growth. Watch this episode HERE Marion joins me on the show today to share her sweet undisturbed birthing stories of her three children. Each of her stories is incredibly unique, and a beautiful example of where intuition can guide a woman when she refuses to be influenced by the industrial obstetrics complex. Marion birthed her first baby, who was transverse until the very end, completely outside of the system in an 1800s cabin in the woods, with an unexpected and beautifully sweet new friend supporting her in birth. Marion’s second birth took place in a teepee outside of the schoolbus she was living in, with women from her community singing to her from outside in the rain, with just her partner and son to witness. Her most recent birth is a powerful story of passionate love and how being with a partner that you are in true, genuine union with can deeply change the experience of birth. Marion is a trailblazer of her own life, following her own compass in every step of the way - from choosing to skip birth certificates for her babies, taking one year to name her baby, and claiming radical responsibility in all circumstances of her life… It was such a joy to hear her perspective on the world through her birth stories. Jess started her mothering journey with a seemingly acceptable midwife-attended homebirth in England, and although there were things that left a bad taste in her mouth, she felt lucky to birth at home without complications. After a few international moves, and learning more about physiological birth, she and her family moved to Canada and Jess began attending births outside of the system. Jess became pregnant again, and enrolled in the RBK school, all while building community and a flourishing birthkeeping business, entirely by word of mouth. She goes on to birth her son in total power, as did so many other women from her cohort! Jess offers a beautiful story of trust and the incredible ripple effect that taking birth back into the hands of women creates. I had originally had her on to talk about nutrition, and to my sheer delight I found out that Noelle in fact freebirthed both of her children! She speaks about moving out of depletion and disease by putting herself first and listening to her body, giving it what it needed. By cultivating inner strength through nourishment and true health, she was able to fully trust her body and freebirth her babies, which were both born in their amniotic sacs, at home, in peace. We go over the radical shifts that take place when mothers move out of martyrdom and into centering themselves, what that looks like, and the harmony that can be found in your relationships when you’re grounded and calm. This week on the show I am finally bringing you the birth story of my son, Sawyer. I share the psychedelic journey that quite honestly, kicked my ass. This episode takes you from the start of my labor, which began with the pulsing of gorgeous mandalas in my third eye and takes you through the rather funny and oh-so-intense six hours of my mind-bending excruciating birth that left me flopped over some pillows like a dead fish begging god to just take me. My friend Amy joins me on the show this week sharing her 5 birth stories. Amy is full of rich insights about her journey through motherhood as a radical feminist.  Amy speaks honestly about the victim consciousness she lived in and how she gave away her power time and time again.  It was in learning to fully trust women and therefore herself that Amy was finally able to shed the last layers of doubt and internal misogyny, which made way for her to claim her deepest desire; to give birth and catch her baby, all on her own.   Her psychedelic postpartum reminds us of the physiology of transformation inherent to birth and the pure bliss we have access to when we are liberated as women. After being backed into a corner, fear mongered, and without options in her first birth, Dominique was bullied into a c-section. When she became pregnant again, she was determined to write a new story. She thought she could make it work with her medical midwives by speaking up, saying no, and taking the reins, but it turned out, as it so often does, that resulted in her midwives abandoning her care at 37 weeks pregnant. Facing the paths ahead of her, Dominique knew it was either a repeat c-section…or a freebirth. So with the support of her friend on the phone, intentional breath work, and finding her warrior strength within, Dominique freebirthed her 11 pound baby boy. She speaks of the transformation and inner strength she cultivated, and the real discovery of her voice to speak up towards injustice; claiming her autonomy and moving towards a life of peace, even if it is by herself. Nicole joins me on the show today sharing her 3 birth stories, ending with the redemptive story of her FBAC, (a freebirth after c-section). After Nicole’s midwives sabotaged her homebirth and coerced her into a traumatic c-section, Nicole was left heartbroken and feeling entirely inadequate to enter motherhood. For her second birth she turned to the same midwives and while she did have her baby at home, she was once again violated by the very women who she hired to support her. Through her own discovery and internal work, she got pregnant for the third time and knew it was time to claim the birth of her dreams, without looking to anyone else. This week we have Noriko from Japan. This week I have artist and first time mom Kallen telling the easy going story of the birth of her son. She recalls her life long love and obsession with babies, mothers, and all things birth, and the exciting revelation that she was ready to start having her own babies and could just do it on her own.
