In this episode, we review the 2025 historical tragedy film Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao, who co-wrote the screenplay with Maggie O’Farrell. The film is based on O’Farrell’s 2020 novel and stars Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, and Emily Watson. We discuss whether this origin story for one of William Shakespeare’s famous plays was entertaining. We also debate whether the film should be nominated for Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards.
