Show Notes
Dottie Davis, a former deputy chief of the Fort Wayne Police Department, shares her journey of overcoming abuse in a male-dominated field. In her new book, she reveals the challenges she faced as one of the few women in policing in the 1980s, while secretly enduring abuse from her husband. After leaving the abusive relationship, Davis became an advocate for domestic violence survivors, training law enforcement and mental health experts worldwide on domestic violence, sexual assault, and suicide prevention. Her book urges bystanders, especially men, to push for better laws and accountability, as Indiana hit its highest domestic violence homicide rate last year.
