Indianas Poetry Out Loud state contest concluded with Jayda Dawn from University High School in Carmel winning the top spot and a trip to the national competition in Washington, D.C. Annabelle Ulrich from Columbia City High School also made it as a finalist. The event, held at the Indiana Historical Society, saw students reciting poems from a special anthology, judged by a panel of poets, writers, and teachers. The national program, run by the National Endowment for the Arts, has reached over four million students since 2005, and offers prizes totaling fifty thousand dollars at the national level.
