His life reveals three defining characteristics of kingdom people: they understand they are part of a greater story, they live differently from the surrounding culture, and they carry a posture of humility. In contrast to Rome’s power-driven, self-promoting values, John lives simply, points away from himself, and prepares the way for Jesus.
