Chelsea win Club World Cup but the tournament was EMBARRASSING!
Congratulations to Chelsea, who can now officially call themselves Champions of the World after they blew away PSG with a scintillating performance in the USA. However, all the attention is on the US President Donald Trump and his awkward lingering, Michael Buffer turning up to the wrong sport, half-time interview nonsense and Robbie Williams confusing a largely American crowd. A year out from a North American World Cup, was this tournament a disaster for FIFA? Niall and Marley don't hold back with their thoughts... How the UK Government has voted to change Premier League football
Premier League football and politics are linked together, even if we sometimes like to pretend that they aren't. The British Government have voted in favour of establishing an Independent Football Regulator in the top 5 men's divisions of English football. But what does this mean? What powers will they have? How will the game change? Niall and Marley attempt to tackle those questions on the latest FSD! Kyle Walker swaps Man City for Burnley and we look at the free agent list
Which bargain deals can be had by Premier League teams this summer? We take a look at the free agent list and ask if the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Callum Wilson can do a job at a new club. We also look at Kyle Walker's switch to Burnley from Man City, and ask whether the newly promoted sides should look to use free agents to add experience in their quest for top flight survival. Elsewhere, Chelsea are wheeling and dealing agains, with Jamie Gittens in and Noni Madueke on his way out. Up north, Newcastle are close to a mega money move for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, with a £55m fee being agreed between the clubs. Transfer talk is the topic of today's FSD, with news emerging this week that Liverpool have rebuffed an approach from FC Bayern over the availability of Colombia winger Luis Diaz. Rashford and Garnacho give Man United another headache!
Ruben Amorim has another problem to deal with at Old Trafford after two of his players took to social media this week to further push themselves towards the exit door. Alejandro Garnacho posted a picture to his instagram account of him wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford’s name on the back, leading to further speculation that he wants to leave the club in the coming months. Meanwhile Rashford himself has been interviewed by a Spanish ‘influencer’ where he talks of his desire to play alongside Lamine Yamal, as his desperation to join Barcelona continues. Arne Slot has made his second summer signing as Liverpool confirmed the signing of German star Florian Wirtz over the weekend. The Premier League champions have paid a British record fee for the Bayer Leverkusen man, who follows Jeremie Frimpong from Germany to Merseyside. How will he fit in at Anfield and does this mean the end of Darwin Nunez? Is Mykhailo Mudryk Chelsea's worst ever Premier League signing?
Chelsea paid more than £80m for Mykhailo Mudryk in 2023, but just 2 years in to an 8-year contract, the Ukrainian could be banned for up to 4 years for a breach of the FA's anti-doping programme. It's still yet to be determined if the adverse sample was an honest mistake or not, but regardless, is this is the end of his career as a Premier League footballer, and where does he rank in the list of Chelsea signings? What's better than one Rayan? That's right, two! Manchester City have secured both Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves and Rayan Cherki from Lyon, two highly skilful players who Pep Guardiola hopes can make a difference. Are they making a point this transfer window of their desire to reclaim the Premier League title next season? Will Cunha and Mbeumo transfers work at Man United as Man City also plan major rebuild
Manchester United have made a swift start to their summer transfer business with the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The Brazilian looks set to improve Ruben Amorim's side immediately, but it's clear the Red Devils need more if they're to get back towards the top of the Premier League. Brentford's Brian Mbeumo is another name linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but does the French winger fit Amorim's system? Across Manchester, City are also planning to raid Wolves for one of their stars as Rayan Ait-Nouri continues to be heavily linked with the club in a big money move. Chelsea secure Champions League, controversy sends Aston Villa into Europa League and Spurs finish 17th!
The season is over, the dust is settling and it’s a busy podcast as Niall and Marley digest it all. Chelsea won the champions league shootout at the City Ground, although Gary Neville wasn’t there to see it, as Levi Colwill’s goal proved the difference to send the Blues into Europe’s premier competition. Aston Villa missed out on a second consecutive appearance in the same competition though, as a controversial call in their game against Man United saw Morgan Rogers’ goal chalked out. Crystal Palace win FA Cup, Everton bid farewell to Goodison and the European race gets complicated!
For the first time in their 119-year existence, Crystal Palace can call themselves FA Cup winners after a 1-0 win over Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday. The Eagles were inspired by a heroic Dean Henderson performance after Eberechi Eze's goal gave them something to hang on to in the first half, and Man City couldn't break down the Palace door despite their efforts. Elsewhere, Goodison Park hosted its final game before Everton move to "Hill Dickinson Stadium" - something that irked Niall in today's Get In The Sea nominations. The Toffees eased past miserable Southampton to mark the occasion with three points on a day where 100 former players were invited to say their goodbyes. Also over the weekend there was ups and downs in the race for the European places. Arsenal secured second while simultaneously making Newcastle's fate go down to the final day, Aston Villa and Forest earned vital points too, but Brentford threw away a lead to lose to Fulham in a local derby, all but ending their hopes of a Conference League place. FA CUP FINAL PREVIEW: Can Crystal Palace win first ever major silverware?
Crystal Palace take on Manchester City on Saturday in arguably the biggest game in their history. Niall and Marley discuss whether this means more to Palace than it does to City, whether the Eagles have the right manager and squad in place to pull off the shock, and whether City have still had a poor season if they win the jug. Does he have a point, or is it wishful thinking from the former Burnley and Everton boss? Nottingham Forest fire back with spicy statement, Everton KEEP Goodison Park and more Manchester United embarassment!
Evangelos Marinakis is still making headlines as Nottingham Forest released a statement on social media about the seriousness of Taiwo Awoniyi's injury suffered at the weekend. But does it provide a suitable reason for him storming the pitch after the 2-2 draw with Leicester? Elsewhere, Everton are allowing Goodison Park to keep hosting football. The club have confirmed their women's team is set to play their games at the iconic ground, but is the news as good as it seems? And finally, Manchester United have revealed that they won't host a trophy parade if they win the Europa League. Rice screamers see Arsenal down Real Madrid, but Villa falter v PSG!
Declan Rice turned into a set-piece master to score two fantastic free kicks as Arsenal dispatched Real Madrid 3-0 at the Emirates to take a huge step towards the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday night. Mikel Merino also got on the scoresheet for the Gunners as Mikel Arteta looks to salvage something from a disappointing season. Liverpool slip but Arsenal don't capitalise, Manchester's dullest derby day and Southampton sink
An action-packed Premier League weekend threw up plenty of talking points, but very few of those came in what has been described as the most boring Manchester Derby in years. Kevin de Bruyne's final Old Trafford test for City ended in a 0-0 bore draw with United, whilst Liverpool's defeat to Fulham - just their second of the season - couldn't be pounced on by Arsenal. Meanwhile, sorry Southampton saw their relegation confirmed, and they sacked Ivan Juric before we even had the chance to talk about it! Liverpool move closer to Premier League title with Merseyside Derby win, while Newcastle take charge of race for top four!
The latest instalment of the Merseyside derby didn't fail to entertain as James Tarkowski escaped a red card before Diogo Jota settled proceedings with the only goal of the game to move the Reds closer to the Premier League title. Arsenal won on Tuesday night to momentarily pressure Arne Slot's side, but it wasn't enough to cause the Slot machine to malfunction. Elsewhere, a Sandro Tonali unintentional screamer earned Newcastle a win over Brentford, leaving the Geordies in charge of the race for the top four, having played a game less than 4th placed Man City. And finally, Southampton moved within a point of finally matching Derby County's humiliating 11-point haul with a draw at home to Crystal Palace. Niall and Marley discuss all this and more on the latest Football Social Daily! Man City suffer Haaland setback and should Man United SELL Bruno Fernandes?
Niall and Marley are back and so is the Premier League! Domestic action has been missed but there's midweek action as we look towards the run-in, with 10 games to go. Man City's chances at finishing in the top four have been dealt a blow by the news that Erling Haaland is out for up to seven weeks, keeping the Norwegian out until around the time of the FA Cup final. Across Manchester, there's been rumours linking Bruno Fernandes with a move to Real Madrid, but with him being one of the few shining lights of a woeful United season, should Ruben Amorim entertain the thought of selling his captain?
