Have you ever thought of tears as a gift from God? Tears are not only a way to express repentance for sin, but genuine tears can be an expression of admittance of our sins. In today’s Gospel, Jesus instructs his disciples to pray sincerely and not babble like the pagans. He then gives us the words of the Our Father. Do we take this prayer to heart? Do we put the will of the Father before our own desires? Do we forgive those who do us wrong, or do we hold onto grudges until they consume us? Jesus warns us that if we are unforgiving towards our fellow men, then God will be unforgiving to us. Today’s Gospel foretells the Final Judgement – the division of the Sheep and the Goats. It’s a division between those who followed God, and those who followed the ways of the world. In today’s Gospel, the disciples are concerned because they only brought one loaf of bread with them out in the boat. Jesus reminds them of the times He fed large crowds with only a few loaves, and reprimands them that they still do not understand who He is. Jesus was the source of food for them – but more importantly he is the source of Life, as the disciples eventually understood. Today’s Gospel recounts two remarkable miracles. On his way to visit the house of Jairus, Jesus feels a woman touch his cloak and be healed as the power rushes out of him. Upon finding the woman he tells her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you.” Jesus is then told that Jairus’ daughter has died but tells the family to not be afraid, just have faith. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. In the Gospel, we hear how the prophetess Anna lived at the Temple, worshipping day and night with fasting and prayer. God commands us to honor the Sabbath Day. But how many of us treat Sunday as just another day, devoted to errands, chores, homework and other tasks? When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he immediately recognizes that Christ is the one for whom his heart has been made. The Lamb of God leads John to testify that Christ is the Son of God. That night, a storm arose and they were very afraid - but they saw Jesus walking toward them and he calmed the seas.
