Show Notes

John Mullican is the Field Operations Manager Freshwater Fisheries and Hatcheries Division Fishing and Boating Services Department of Natural Resources. John runs all 5 management regions of Maryland. In this episode we dive into the state of the state of the Non-tidal portion of the Potomac River, flathead catfish situation, trout stocking programs and the smallmouth fish stocking program.
The relative abundance of flathead catfish was a little less than half of the channel catfish abundance during our surveys in 2021 when no flathead were collected in 2011. However, the relative abundance of flathead catfish in our surveys more than doubled in the five year period between 2016 and 2021. This still represents a very rapid increase in flathead abundance  Additional links
