First Issue Club Comic Books

This week, FIC takes on WoTR double-time team-ups (hereby known as DTTUs) in "Spider-Man and the League of Realms" and "Giant Man" (which should really be called "Giant Men").

Agents of Atlas (Marvel) bringing in an all new amazing Asian fighting team and Excellence (Image) with a better, fresher more relevant Harry Potter! Plus some new sponsors!

As is typical, the club devolves quickly when Kaitlyn can't attend, and we lose track of our decency and get off topic quickly. Even still, we think there is just the right amount of DCeased and Savage Avengers discussed in this episode. Enjoy!

Thanos has a new book (Marvel) by Tini Howard and it is just in time for End Game. Cullen Bunn is back (Valiant) with a Louisianan Immortal Ghost Summoning Neighborhood Punk!

The club really gets into it this week with "First Appearances" in both comics and our lives; ""Planet of the Nerds", where the geeks and the Chads get the switch; and, we find ourselves 'A Club Divided' over the historical fiction that is "Mary Shelley: Monster Hunter."

Faithless is all the pervy magic Boom! Could fit in a comic. Fair Lady is Columbo for Middle Earth. Comics literally don't get better! The club gets in it and even talks Hellboy with the latest in comic news. It's First Issues being read and discussed in podcast form. Now it's time to take my horse to the old town road.

For our audience people this week, tune in to hear about Planet Comicon experiences; what happened with Astro Hustle; War of the Realms delivering on its hype; and, Major X's Liefeldian x-citement over new characters.

This week on FIC, we hit the highlights of C2E2, get into the witchy world of Archie Forever's "Sabrina", and revel in the dark comedy chaos that is "Bad Luck Chuck".

This week, the club discusses the announcement of new comic book publisher AWA, and debates what makes a publishing company stand out from the crowd. Later, as always, the panelists feature a couple of last weeks first issues: Dark Red #1 out on AfterShock Comics is a vampire story set in small town America, while Spiderman: Life Story #1 is the first entry in a series that poses the question, "What if Peter Parker aged in real time?"

This week, the club members have a spoily-free Captain Marvel convo, talk trailers with Avengers: Endgame, and get into reviews on "Magnificent Ms. Marvel" and "Assassin Nation".

First, Marvel's MEET THE SKRULLS introduces us to an alien spy family trying to keep a low profile while infiltrating Stark Inc, while our second book, Dark Horse's ASTRO HUSTLE, takes us on a 1970s inspired Flash Gordon style romp featuring a band of space pirates with a deck full of the CUTEST animal buccaneers. Avast ye! Adventures are abound!

This week….love is the enemy with "Age of X-Man: X-Tremists" and "The Forgotten Queen" gives us a tale of bloodshed through the ages.

The club covers Sharkey the Bounty Hunter (a future Netflix show) and High Level (vertigo). Everything you want to know about comics and everything you didn't, it's comics y'all - they al fun!

In this variant edition, we discuss "My Boy Friend Is A Bear" in which a woman falls in love and begins a relationship with a bear. No…not a metaphorical bear…an actual freaking bear.

It's a yuckfest this week folks. "Wyrd" isn't quite weird enough, "Unit 44" is great…if you're a child…"Age of X-Men Alpha" primes our wallets to spend bank on more x-men books, and "Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt" rips "Watchmen". But you know what…we still had a blast reading and talking about em cause comics rule.

This week…the club gets nostalgic with Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Plus, one of our favorite characters gets inducted into the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Our own Mike DiStasi joins the What's In A Game podcast to talk about Marvel's Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and basically everything Spider-Man. Did we say Spider-Man enough times?

Our issues this week include our personal true crime stories; "Criminal", where the Lawless are the scumbags you root for; "Young Justice", where we get another fun and fast teen team-up; and, the Club's weekly pulls.

This week we talk two marvel returning number ones: Champions and Conan The Barbarian. This week on FIC, club members discuss witchy women, oppression via suppression, and the complexities of identity in "Hex Wives" and "Sex Death Revolution".

For our spookiest episode yet, the club is visited by not one, but FIVE demons (Ahh!) as they contemplate the scariest of scaries and horror of horrors, such as near-death experiences, "Are We Haunted?", selling their souls, terrorizing treats and traumatizing tricks, and of course, the creepy classic Monster Mash.

Our issues this week include "Marvel Zombie", where The Defenders fight zombie hordes until they encounter a sentient undead; "Exorsisters" is a demon crime-stopping duo full of fire and brimstone; and "Shuri" gets deeper into Wakanda and Shuri's evolving part(s) to play in its future.

This week: neckbeards prove the exact point "X-Men Black Mojo" makes about having new and diverse superheroes; "Murder Falcon" shreds away depression; and "What If Peter Parker Became The Punisher" is more like "what if spider-man just had a skull on his costume".

In this episode, we get into "Bone Parish", and discuss what could happen when a family-run, bone-snortin' business gets too big for its britches. "Justice League Dark" teams up the B-List that's gonna save magic - it's like Justice League, but a bit bolder & better for us. "The New World" is the FIC pick of the week, and delivers a club-love story set in a world we never hope to see, and yet already feel we're on our way.

This week, "The Mall" delivers a Mafia-style, reverse-Mamma Mia, with all the 80's you can handle, dark undertones, and everybody gets their own store! "Euthanauts" takes a 'death positive' perspective, leaving the club 'death-questioning', with its unabashed curiosity and deep-dive into the afterlife; and "The Life of Captain Marvel" is really the life of Carol Danvers, a beautifully-layered narrative about superheroism within a complicated family.

This week: "Farmhand" gives us a family drama wrapped in your average stem-cell zombie farm story; "She Could Fly" takes a serious look at OCD and mental health; and, "The Amazing Spider-Man" sends Peter back to college.

Our first issue picks this week... "Cosmic Ghost Rider" gives Frank Castle his very own golden ticket to ride out of Valhalla for more vengeance; "Unnatural" shows us how to stay sex-and-love positive when the government controls your Tinder; and, "Captain America" witnesses the death of the American Dream, and his relevance?

This week, "Modern Fantasy" helps us relive our worst days at the office, weirdest parties in college and a little adventure in between. "Sentry" is a bleak look at the one man who can do everything, but only once a day. Finally, "Teen Titans Special" shows us what happens when Kid Flash, Teen Robin and Red Arrow stop pretending, and get real. With guns.

This week: "Lost City Explorers" gives us that good Goonies vibe, "Shanghai Red" gives us a badass Mulanesque heroine, and "Iron Man" goes corporate.
