But China and the US are set to meet soon, and this week Canadian PM Mark Carney met with US President Donald Trump.
Dr Charles Miller is a Senior Lecturer at the ANU School of Politics and International Relations. He talks to Sean Aylmer about the state of the conflict and diplomacy, and the role of the US as the global peacemaker.
