Dat Roy Makaay een topspits was, dat wisten we al. In de Eredivisie maakte hij naam en vervolgens in Spanje bij Deportivo la Coruña op het allerhoogste niveau. Maar toch voelde het altijd een beetje als ‘in de luwte’ – zou Makaay het ook kunnen bij een absolute topclub als - we noemen maar wat – FC Bayern München?
