Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem. Alhamdulillah, wassalatu wassalamu ala Rasoolullah ﷺ, wa baad. My brothers and sisters, we have been talking about forgiveness and how Ramadan must make us people who are forgiving because our taqwa is increasing, alhamdulillah. Measure it. Ask yourself, what are the signs that my taqwa is increased? And look for those signs, right? And one of those signs is your willingness to forgive others.
We have this beautiful story in this very terrible time when the slander against the incident of Ifk, the slander against our mother, Sayyidatuna Aisha Siddiqa (RA), the cousin of Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA), Mistah bin Usaysa, who was a muhajir, who was also somebody who received financial aid from Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA). He also joined in the slander against Sayyidatuna Aisha Siddiqa (RA) and Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA). Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) quite appropriately and quite justifiably got angry and he said, "I will not give him any more financial aid." Despite his justified action, Allah ﷻ revealed Quran and Allah ﷻ said, which means: "And do not let those among you who are blessed and blessed with graces and wealth—this is a confirmation and praise for Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA)—do not let them swear not to give any sort of help to their kinsmen, the poor, and the muhajirun who left their homes for the sake of Allah. Let them pardon and forgive. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is of forgiving, most merciful."
Allah is saying, "Forgive others if you want Allah to forgive you." It is such a beautiful and such a powerful reminder. Anytime you feel reluctant to forgive others, ask yourself, "Do I not want Allah to forgive me?" And the answer is yes, and therefore forgive that person. We ask Allah to help us become forgiving people, seeking forgiveness and forgiving each other for His sake. And we ask Allah to accept that and to forgive us.
سَلِّمْ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ نَبِيِّ الْقَرِيمِ وَعَلَىٰ عَلِيِّهِ وَسَلِّمْ بِرَحْمَةِكِ وَرَحْمَةٍ
