Qurbani – Udhiya, Importance and Method

إِنِّي وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ عَلَى مِلَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ مِنْكَ وَلَكَ بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ اَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ “I have set my direction firmly and truly towards Him Who created the heavens end the earth. And never shall I give partners to Allah. Verily, my worship and my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah Sustainer of the worlds. O Allah this sacrifice is from you and is for you.” Bismillah wallahu akbar. Allahumma minka wa ilaika, fataqabbal min … (pronounce the name of the person on whose behalf the animal is being sacrificed). It means: “In the name of Allah and Allah Almighty, O Allah, this sacrifice is from You and for You, accept the sacrifice (pronounce the name of the person on whose behalf the animal is being hand but they don't have to do it they can also delegate that slaughter tosomebody else who can slaughter on their behalf a very important thing the act of slaughter itselfand only is the act of worship so you can't say well i am vegan or you know i don't want tosubject some sheep to unnecessary pain and therefore even though i eat you know biryaniand i eat nahryouand I eat everything else throughout the year,all of which has dead sheep in it.On the day of Khurbani,on the day of Yawm-ul-Eid,for the Udiya,Shaitan puts this in your mind and heart and says,no, no, no, don't slaughter the sheep.Why don't I just give this in charity?There are so many people who are deserving.So I will give the cost of the sheep in charity.Please understand,that action would not constitute Khurbani.It is not a substitute for Khurbani.As a matter of fact,it would be an evil intention,an evil action and a sinbecause you are trying to subvertthe deen of Allah subhanahu wa ta'alaby introducing your own version to it.So don't fall into these traps.Now, therefore,try to slaughter with your own hand.If you can't do that,if you are not able to do thatbecause you live in a country where it is not allowedor you live in a place where it's not easyand so on and so forth,or even if you,you don't want to do itwithout condemning itor without saying anything against it,you can delegate it to somebody else.One very, very important thing,slaughter can also be done in other countries.For example,you can send money to some other countryand ask your Khurbani to be done there.But very important to rememberthat your Khurbani is a Khurbani.The slaughter is a slaughteronly if it is done after Salatul Eid.If it is done before Salatul Eid,then it's just a regular slaughter of an animalfor the sake of eating itand it has nothing to do with the Khurbani.It is not Udhiyya.It is something which is,which is not from the,you know,which is not Udhiyya.It's a regular slaughter of an animalfor the purpose of eating it.So make sure that if it is being,if your sacrifice is happening in some other country,make sure that you tell themnot to do it untilyou have done it.Make sure that you have confirmedthat you have finished your Salatul Eidand then you can send them a messageand then they can slaughter the animal on your behalf.The following things to be remembered.Number one,the knife to be used for slaughtershould be very, very sharpso that it slits the throat immediatelywithout causing undue pain to the animal.The knife should not be sharpenedin front of the animals.You must do it somewhere else.The animal to be slaughteredshould be given foodand water.It should not be slaughteredwhen it is hungry and thirsty.It should not be brutally dragged alongto the place of slaughter.We see all of these things happening.That is very sad,must not be done.The animal should not,should be slaughteredin a,in a isolated placeso that other animalscannot witness the slaughter.So don't slaughter.If you are slaughtering,for example,multiple sheep,don't slaughter them,each one in front of the others.The animal should be laid on the ground with ease.Don't use,it is abominableto use undue force.Don't throw it on the ground.Do it gently,as gently as possible.Obviously, you have to force it,but not,not undue force.As soon as the animalhas been placed on the ground,you should hastenand to slaughter it,do not delay unduly.Again,the whole idea isnot to cause the animalany more painthan it,than is unavoidable.The animal should not,be slaughtered with such forcethat the head is severedor the knife reaches the spinal cord.If the head comes off,it is haram.You cannot even eat it.So,must never do that.It's incorrect to slaughter the animalabove the neckbecause it,meaning,where the neck starts to meet the bodybecauseit causes a lot of pain and agony.The place for slaughter isjust where,just under the chinof the animal.The animal should be leftafter slaughtering in such a wayas to freely kickin its death throes.After slaughtering,head should not be cut off,nor should the animal be skinneduntil it is completely,all movements have been stopped.Don't be in a hasteto do that.Now, while slaughtering,the dua to be,or before slaughtering,the dua to be recited,inni vajhatu vajhia lillazifata sabava,ala millati ibrahima haneefanwa ma ana minal mushrikeeninna salati wa nusukiwa ma hiyaia wa mamatilillahi rabbil alameenla sharika lahuwa bizalika umirtuwa ana minal muslimeenAllahumma minka wa lakabismillahi allahu akbarSo, the way to do thatis to saybismillahi allahu akbarAllahumma minkawa ilaykafatakabbal minand then you say the name of the person.Fatakabbal minfulan bin fulanIf it is yourself,you can say fatakabbal minnior you can say fatakabbal minand your nameand your father's name.If you are slaughtering the animaland I recommend if you have the moneyand if you are able to do that,slaughter an animalin the name of Rasulullah s.a.w.So, say fatakabbal minRasulullah s.a.w.and this means in the name of AllahAllahu AkbarAllah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the greatestWallah the sacrifice isis for youand it isaccept the sacrificefrom the owner of thesacrificial animalthat is the dua to bepronounced.Now, thenafter the sula'a as I mentionedbefore,don't cut off the headand don't do anythinguntil the animal is completely dead.Now, alhamdulillahall of these thingsthat you can rememberand do,this is the best thinginshallahfor the slaughter of the animal.We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'alato help usand please understandRasulullah s.a.w.in one hadith,he said a personwho is capablewho has the moneyto slaughter an animaland does not slaughterneed not pray with us.Need not pray.Salatul Eid with usneed not come close to usfor Salatul Eid.Now, this is very very importantto make sure that wethat we do the slaughteras a mark of thankfulnessto Allah subhanahu wa ta'alafor having given usthe ability to do itand as a mark ofof our honoringthe sacrifice of Ibrahim Ali.Salam.We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'alato accept our sacrificeand to help us to do thatin the way which is the bestwhich is accepted by himsalawatJalla Jalaluhuand we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'alato send salatul salamand rasulullah s.a.w.wa salamu ala nabiyyil kareemwa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma'inbi rahmatika ya rahman rahimeenwalhamdulillahi rabbil alameenwa salamu alaikumwa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhkullu ammantabi khairand mubarak to all of you.
