Last week in Charlotte County Florida, dispatch received a call about a disturbance just outside of Punta Gorda. Deputies arrived and made contact with owner of the property, Elroy Clark. Clark said one of his tenants was acting erratically. During the investigation, deputies were told that Clark may have had a warrant and asked dispatch to confirm it, and it was. More deputies were called to assist. They attempted to detain Clark, but he resisted. He became agitated and non compliant to verbal commands. Tasers, batons and OC were deployed to little effect. Deputies attempted to tackle, subdue and restrain Clark unsuccessfully. Less lethal munitions-- bean bag rounds-- were deployed, and finally Clark charged a deputy, who used his service weapon. Clark was struck, and aid was rendered by deputies until EMS arrived, however Clark was died at the scene. Deadleg and Tyler give their takes on the landmark case and how Rittenhouse continues to be divisive despite his acquittal. Rittenhouse gained national attention at age 17 for shooting three men in Kenosha, Wisconsin—two fatally—in August 2020, amid protests following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. He had traveled to Kenosha during the unrest, and joined a group of armed people who said they were there to protect businesses. In a series of confrontations, Rittenhouse fatally shot two men who had tried to grab his gun, and injured another who had pointed a firearm at him. Rittenhouse was subsequently charged by Kenosha County prosecutors with multiple criminal counts, including homicide. Rittenhouse claimed self-defense at trial and was acquitted in November 2021. Charles Sharp III of Mantua New Jersey called 9-1-1 because he caught two men red-handed breaking into his car-- at least one of them had a gun. Sharp confronted the men, tried to scare them off with fireworks, but that didn't work. Sharp told the dispatcher that the suspect had a gun and so did he. The burglars beat it before the cops showed up, who then saw Sharp outside with his firearm. A police officer from Mantua Township hopped out of the car, gave a suspect a command to drop the weapon, and then the officer discharged his weapon killing the man, who turned out to be Sharp, the homeowner and 9-1-1 caller. Louisville Metro Police Department officer Brandon Brinkley when an off-duty officer called for backup. Kentucky State Police had been in a pursuit with a vehicle which crashed. The driver was captured, but an armed passenger got away on foot. Brinkley tracked the suspect down through a Walmart, where the suspect had changed clothes, and tried again to run on foot. Brinkley saw the suspect reach for his waistband and attempt to carjack minivan in the driveup pharmacy line. Daniel Saavedra-Arreola was hiding from Albuquerque Police this past January in a vacant building. Officers found him inside a closet, and he came out swinging a knife and a pipe. Officers responded with deadly forces and Saavedra-Arreola did not survive. Police officers knew a suspect was there-- they are seen on cameras calling out for him in the apartment, his exact location unknown, to show himself and surrender peaceably. An officer was almost injured, and a taser was deployed before more lethal force, but to no effect. In June 2016, off duty Brevard County deputy Yousef Hafza had a traffic incident in Palm Bay Florida with Jose Montanez and Clarence Howard. The media called it a road-rage incident, but Montanez and Howard stalked the deputy for four miles after the initial encounter and the final confrontation took place. Deputy Hafza was charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree of the two suspects. The prosecution went to insane lengths to ruin Hafza's life, but a jury found him not guilty. 22-Year old Linzell Parhm was fatally shot by a Fort Wayne Police officer late last month. The public protested to demand the release of the body-worn camera footage of the encounter. On a Saturday night, officers pulled over the suspect and "actions of the occupants inside the vehicle" caused the police officer to use deadly force. Police say the suspect was not been compliant to verbal commands and was reaching for a gun after being told to keep his hands on the dashboard. The suspect reached for the firearm, and the police officer shot twice and killed Parhm. So far the reason for the traffic stop has not been released. The officer has been placed on admin leave as the protestors took to the streets-- we wait at the edge for the next police incident to be turned into the political boiling point it was last election year. First aired as Episode 22 on November 12, 2021, Mike The Cop and Eric Tansey breakdown the Kyle Rittenhouse case. Rittenhouse gained national attention at age 17 for shooting three men in Kenosha, Wisconsin—two fatally—in August 2020, amid protests following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. Rittenhouse had traveled to Kenosha during the unrest, and joined a group of armed people who said they were there to protect businesses. In a series of confrontations, Rittenhouse fatally shot two men who had tried to grab his gun, and injured another who had pointed a firearm at him. Rittenhouse was subsequently charged by Kenosha County prosecutors with multiple criminal counts, including homicide. Rittenhouse claimed self-defense at trial and was acquitted in November 2021.
