S2 Ep 39Shon Faye - Everything In Conversation
In our first Everything In Conversation of 2025 we’re talking to thee Shon Faye- brilliant author, writer and journalist. Shon’s first book The Transgender Issue was a bestseller and her new non-fiction Love in Exile is already one of our favourite reads of this year.Exploring both her own experiences of love, heartbreak and feelings of unworthiness as well as the problems and challenges of modern love from multiple angles, this is a book for anyone in love, out of love, wanting to understand love and romance in new and radical ways. In our chat Shon talked about romcoms, break-ups, community, addiction, different ways of mothering and what she’s learned about the history of love. She's funny, she's brilliant and we can't wait for you to listen. Follow Shon on Instagram @shon.faye and pick up your copy of Love In Exile here or in any good book shop! S2 Ep 38Porn - A Deep Dive (Part One)
EHappy Valentines Day - as a special treat, we've got a double deep dive for you - Everything Is Content, and some things, are Adult Content. This week on the podcast we’re delving into the world of OnlyFans and digital sex work for part one of our two-part Porn series. In this instalment we are going to be talking about sexy subscription services, the Lily Phillips documentary and Bonnie Blue’s banned OnlyFans video. So possibly more than anything else in the history of the pod, we have been asked by you at home, to talk about OnlyFans- the London based subscription service for content creators that has seen global success and cultural notoriety since it was founded 9 years ago, becoming especially popular with adult performers and sex workers producing pornography and selling other digital sexual services. We discuss a Substack by the very popular writer, creator, PHD candidate, and podcaster Maalvika Bhat, titled “What OnlyFans Billions reveal about the market value of male desire”, and ask, do we think some men might resent the freedom that OnlyFans allows women in terms of monetising sexuality? Why do women get so much of the “blame” for OF’s popularity when it’s men who are the biggest customer base? Can a site like OF alter desire on a broad scale? Are we maybe even seeing this happen? We then go on to discuss 23 year old Lily Phillips and her documentary with Josh Pieters, as well as another key figure in this conversation, Bonnie Blue, a 25-year-old sex worker and content creator who became even more famous for claiming to have slept with 1,057 men in 12 hours. Tune in next week for part-two, where we will be looking at the consumers of porn, the dangerous misuse of it, and whether or not it can ever, truly, be ethical. In Production Partnership with Cue PodcastsWhat OnlyFans billions reveal about the market value of male desire:https://maalvika.substack.com/p/what-onlyfans-billions-reveal-abouthttps://magdalene.substack.com/p/the-tech-oligarchy-is-stealing-yourLily Philips documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFySAh0g-MI&ab_channel=JoshPietershttps://www.joe.co.uk/news/bonnie-blues-1000-men-stunt-video-banned-from-onlyfans-474458https://graziadaily.co.uk/life/opinion/ashley-james-bonnie-blue/ Hosted on Acast. S2 Ep 37Everything in Conversation: Lily Collins & The Ethics of Surrogacy
It's the extra episode!! This week we're diving into the most divisive topic we've done yet: the ethics of surrogacy. Our DMs were flooded with requests for this, after Lily Collins and her husband got a huge amount of backlash for sharing the news that they'd welcomed a baby into the world through surrogacy.Thank you so much for your thoughts on this one. Just a reminder to follow us on the gram (IG, Insta, whatever you want to call it) to join in the discourse. We read out listener messages to help shape our own opinions and reflections in these Wednesday episodes.IG AND TIKTOK: @everythingiscontentpod-------It’s no wonder millennial women are annoyed by Lily Collins’s surrogacy – they can’t afford their own kidsLike Lily Collins, I welcomed my children through surrogacy. S2 Ep 36Bianca Uncensori, Amandaland & Doechii
It's TIIIIIMEEEEE for Everything Is Content - Happy Friday EIC heads, we did it, another week bites the dust.As HUGE Motherland fans, we were eagerly anticipating the new BBC spin off Amandaland. The sitcom, produced by another love of our life, Sharon Horgan, follows Amanda (the leader of the alpha-mum’s from the original show, with her perfectly blow-dried blonde hair, insufferable lack of self-awareness and yet somehow endearing charm) who is now divorced and has re-located from Chiswick to South Harlesden with her teenagers. She deals with modern motherhood horrors like teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts and eco-anxiety, as well as establishing herself as an interiors influencer with her new business ‘sensuous’. Joanna Lumley, who plays Felicity, Amanda’s mother, is her best self as an ab-fab-esque ex model. The show has ginormous boots to fill, so we ask, has it lived up to the hype?Next up - this year's Grammys... Two people who apparently did not stay long enough to enjoy themselves were Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and his wife Bianca Censori, who showed up, stood for photos and then were apparently- if rumours are to be believed- asked to leave the ceremony following Bianca’s outfit reveal. We discuss our reaction to her fit - or lack there of - and ask whether this is a sign of something horrible and sinister happening in front of our eyes, or if it’s just a display from two people who are equally invested in giving us all a good show.Lastly, one of the more gorgeous moments from the Grammy’s, was Tampa rapper Doechii getting her well-deserved flowers, winning best rap album and in the process becoming one of three women to win the award. We discuss her beautiful speech, her sensational lyricism, and why we are so pleased to have her in our ears.Aaaand, if you're happy to have us in your ears... a 5* review wherever you listen would mean the world, Thank you so much in advance <3 High Fidelity 2020 SeriesHigh Fidelity FilmIn Memoriam - Alice WinnThe Midnight Library - Matt Haig (audiobook)Search Party AmandalandThe Naked Truth About Bianca Censori’s Grammys Look - Raven Smith for VogueDoechii Reigns Supreme on ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ - Rolling StoneDoechii is irreverent, raunchy and hilarious on Alligator Bites Never Heal — album review FT Hosted on Acast. S2 Ep 35Everything in Conversation: Lola Young And The Hunt For Nepo Babies
Happy hump day EIC heads! As a reward for making it halfway to the weekend here’s a brand spanking episode of Everything In Conversation for you- and it’s a doozy. This week we’re discussing a new branch of the nepo baby discourse that sprouted after 24-year-old singer and Messy internet sensation Lola Young was “outed” as being the niece of mega-successful children’s author Julia Donaldson (e.g. the creator of The Gruffalo). This revelation sparked conversations online about whether this connection was enough to open doors, if we even should be labelling Young a nepo baby, and what having a rich or high profile relative can mean when navigating a career in the arts. Armed with a pile of brilliant listener messages we try to find some answers, as well as getting stuck into the complications of the UK class system, code-switching, the sexism inherent in the term nepo baby and what we think we should all actually be talking about instead. Thanks so much for listening and/or taking part in this In Conversation episode. If you want to be a part of next week’s discussion just follow us on IG @everythingiscontentpod. We’d also love if you could leave us a rating or a review or even share us on socials- it means the world and helps us grow!O, R, B xPrince Charles Cinema - Sign the petitionVulture : How a Nepo Baby Is BornThe i Paper : Here’s why you shouldn’t call me a nepo baby Square Mile : Eve Austin Hosted on Acast. S2 Ep 34Loud Luxury, Crying On The Internet & Spying On Each Other
TGIF and TGIEICD (thank god it's Everything Is Content Day... is this gonna catch on?)This week, Beth, Ruchira and Oenone dip their toe in the fashion discourse, if 2025 Haute Couture is anything to go by, then quiet luxury and stealth wealth might be being booted out for loud luxury, extravagance and labels, sorry Sofia Richie Grainge! Next up, Selena Gomez posted a tearful video on Instagram Stories on Monday, before quickly deleting the post. In the video, she responded to the US' nationwide immigration raids over the weekend, which saw the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest 956 people on Sunday — the largest number of arrests on a single day under Trump. He announced several extreme executive orders on immigration from his first day. US Senate candidate Sam Parker called to 'deport Selena Gomez' on X, while the left basically called her self-involved. They ask, why do you think we’re so cynical of emotional outbursts online? And last but by no means least, is society shifting now towards intentional and consensual round the clock tracking? Beth found a fascinating piece called “We are all Big Brother now: The largest system of surveillance isn’t run by the government or corporations. It’s the grass-roots panopticon we’re using to judge one another.” It was written by Alan Levinovitz, and published in the Boston Globe last June. S2 Ep 32President Trump 2.0, The Broligarchs & Molly-Mae's Filtered Life
Happy Friday! Happy Everything Is Content day more importantly! One story that dominated the news cycle this week - the inauguration. Whether we liked it or not, Donald Trump's speech and questionable guest-list was unavoidable. We dived into the rise of the broligarch, our fears for Trump 2.0 and the promises he's already made on trans rights and climate action (i.e. to protect neither).Life is about the light and the dark, but the Molly-Mae doc didn't really offer as many laughs as we'd hoped! Listen to our review of the highly-anticipated 'tell-all' from the UK's influencer-in-chief. S2 Ep 31Everything In Conversation: Are We Work-Shy?
EHappy Wednesday, or unhappy Wednesday, it's been a weird week. Here at the EIC newsroom, we will fill you in - welcome to Everything In Conversation. This week on the extra episode, we discuss BrewDog founder James Watt's approach to work/life balance... which is to not have one. He came under fire after he shared a video of him and his fiancé, Georgia Toffolo, where he says, ‘so I just think the whole concept of work life balance was invented by people who hate the work that they do’, to which Georgia replies ‘it’s so true’. After he received a huge amount of backlash, including unacceptable threats of violence, as well as lots of more balanced takes, Watt asked on LinkedIn, “What does it say about our society that a post extolling the virtues of hard work gets met with this kind of furious backlash?” calling it a “bizarre controversy”. He said: “As a nation, we love to joke about the French being lazy, but the reality is that our output per hour is 13 per cent lower than theirs." James Watt is worth an estimated 262 million pounds at present, and has also previously been accused of presiding over a “toxic” culture. Beth, Ruchira and Oenone rummage around in the mess, and with help from the listeners, try to answer the question, is The UK workforce, work-shy? https://www.heraldscotland.com/opinion/24851034.roz-foyer-james-watt-spouting-nonsense-work-life-balance/https://www.telegraph.co.uk/food-and-drink/features/has-brewdogs-toxic-culture-pierced-craft-beer-balloon/#:~:text=A%20staple%20on%20supermarket%20shelves,out%2C%20afraid%20and%20miserable%E2%80%9D.https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/01/14/uk-is-among-most-work-shy-nations-claims-brewdog-founder/https://inews.co.uk/news/house-prices-young-people-nothing-to-work-for-3457041#:~:text=NEWSLETTER%20(%C2%A3)%20Work%20no%20longer,a%20home%20of%20their%20own.&text=This%20is%20Home%20Front%20with,newsletter%20from%20The%20i%20Paper%20. S2 Ep 30Babygirl, A Scandal in Romantasy & Rooting For Traitors
In the famous words of Rebecca Black: "it's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday!" And we're back with a brand new episode of Everything Is Content! This week we're drinking UP the Babygirl discourse like a tall glass of milk. Were we intolerant to the film, or lapping it up and asking for more? Also, there's drama in the romantasy world and it doesn't involve magical creatures, but rather humans and accusations of plagiarism. Just how unique are the themes and tropes of the genre? And finally, let's sit down around the round table to discuss the only show truly *giving* right now. Yes, The Traitors. We also discuss our relationships to reinvention and ask: is it toxic to say no to rotting in bed? Next up: the agony of texting men. Is text-debt a real thing or are we over-reliant on texting as a replacement for in-person friendship and connection? Aaaaand finally we’re looking at the latest legal drama in Hollywood as the Lively vs. Baldoni vs. NYTimes cases pick up momentum. Why are we so quick to criticise famous women and can these witch hunts and PR smear campaigns finally end with us? As ever thank you for listening! Listen to find out their review of the year's biggest blockbuster. There were lots of tears... from Cynthia and Ariana. How did the rollout for Wicked turn out so unhinged? Is this an example of theatre kid behaviour and unrestrained earnestness, or something darker? Also, could this set the new bar for what movie marketing looks like from now on? S2 Ep 19The Troubles, A Troubling Interview & The Metrics Of Sexiness
Beth, Ruchira and Oenone have been watching, listening and reading... as always. This week, they've all been binging the new historical drama, Say Nothing. The new nine part Disney Plus show is an adaptation of Patrick Redden Keefe’s bestselling book of the same name. The book came out in 2018, the series just dropped last week. It follows closely to the narrative of the book, which was about the Troubles, the IRA, the provisional IRA and a now notorious woman at the centre of it all, Dolours Price.Next up, in an interview with Eva Wiseman for the Observer, actor and director Rebecca Hall says she doesn’t regret working with Woody Allen - a statement which unsurprisingly inspired many a headline. Shockingly, this wasn't the only viral moment of the piece, as Hall also detailed her unconventional wedding to husband and fellow actor Morgan Spector. And lastly, would you want a Sexiest Woman of The Year Award? S2 Ep 17Skincare Horror, Mid Movies and Kicking Kids Offline
For the second time this week Beth, Ruchira and Oenone are in your ears talking all things pop culture.First we're discussing Skincare- a film that sounds like it has all the active ingredients for glowing success. Elizabeth Banks stars as an aesthetician & skincare mogul whose life starts to wrinkle after being targeted on & offline. 5 stars or total wet flannel?Next up we're examining the charm of middlebrow movies- e.g. the films that don't break the box office or re-invent cinema but are perfectly good nonetheless. Where did they go and can we have them back before the Marvel and Mattel takeover is complete? Finally we're scrolling down under as Australia proposes plans to kick all kids off social media. The news has been met with both praise and criticism- could it actually do some good or is it too little too late from governments who haven't thought things through?Thank you so much for listening! S2 Ep 15Literary Dilemmas, Influencer Coaching & Boys vs Girls
EHappy Friday (following the longest week of 2024).First up, artist and poet James Massiah has claimed that bestselling author Coco Mellors (Blue Sisters) brazenly based one of her characters on him. Beth, Ruchira and Oenone dig into the story and ask: just how much can artists borrow from real life, especially when inspiration comes from people around them? Also, would you sign up for an influencer academy? A New York Times feature dives into influencer Valeria Lipovetsky's new and exclusive scheme that promises to help budding influencers break into the industry. Is it a scam or a savvy business idea for everyone involved? And finally, a "global gender divide" is sweeping the world, as experts warn that more and more young men are voting right, as young women vote progressively. A political split is widening between the two everywhere from the UK, to South Korea and Tunisia. Are we f****d as a society? Thank you so much for listening to us. S2 Ep 13Spooky Faves, Gay Halloween and RIP Birth Rates
BOO - Beth, Ruchira and Oenone are back to scare you with some scarily-astute analysis of pop culture in time for Halloween week. First, just how much do they love horror as a genre? From memories of sleepovers and scary-movies, to the recent rise of artistic horrors with social commentary i.e. Jordan Peele's 'Get Out', they dive into their changing relationship to jump-scares and frightening films. Also, listen to hear their best horror recommendations across literature, TV and film.A new meme has the internet in a chokehold. 'Gay Halloween' has radically changed the dressing-up landscape, with people boasting about their pop culture knowledge by donning the most obscure referential costume they can, so only the chronically online understand it. Is it fun or is it pretentious? Finally, we can't forget the real world is full of horrifying things including recent stats that show a significant decline in birth rates. Should women bear the brunt of this societal issue? S2 Ep 12Rivals, Respecting Liam Payne and Age Gaps 2.0
EThis week on the Podcast, Beth, Ruchira and Oenone discuss the devastating news that broke last week, that One Direction singer Liam Payne had died unexpectedly and tragically at the age of 31 in Argentina. We think most people have felt this is quite seismic, and wanted to look at how the coverage of this has seemed and felt so far, both in the papers and on social media. Is it time for there to be a reckoning with how we deal with celebrity death? You can skip to roughly 37 minutes if you want to skip this section. As a pop culture podcast we also had to cover this week's lighter stories, including the show of the moment we're all tuning in for, the BONKBUSTER that is Rivals. If you’re looking for a rollicking good romp in Rutshire, then look no further, Jilly Cooper’s 1988 novel has been adapted into a TV series, now streaming on Disney plus. And lastly, Daniel Felsenthal wrote a piece for The Guardian titled ‘I’m 33 and my husband is 77 - this is why I only sleep with older men”, is the age-gap discourse ever going to be put to bed?Penguin - Love in Exile by Shon FayeThe Guardian - The Apprentice The Guardian- Slow HorsesDazed - Liam Payne and our grim cultural obsession with celebrity deathsNew Statesman - Liam Payne was a victim of the pop pin-up machine NBC - 1D fans condemn online harassment of Maya Henry Cheryl Cole Instagram Telegraph - Rivals Review The Guardian - Rivals ReviewThe Guardian - I'm 33 and my husband is 77 Hosted on Acast. S2 Ep 11Disastrous Dentistry, Kaotic Cancellations and Living In A Post-Lingerie World
This week on pod, The Three Musketeers are back together. Beth, Ruchira and Oenone soldier through the battlefield of streaming services, why is it that Netflix loves to cancel shows in their infancy? We want to fight them! Kaos might not have reached number one on Netflix's charts, but it certainly has become beloved to everyone who has plunged their eyeballs into the reimagined Greek Mythology. The action centres around various prophecies, relationships and quests as Zeus tries to prevent the fall of his powerful family. It’s inventive, it’s sexy, it’s dramatic, it’s different. And now it’s done. Next up - how far are you willing to go for a good smile? A piece in the Guardian this week dives into the world of veneers, specifically why cosmetic dentistry is such a booming industry and what happens when the pursuit for perfect teeth goes horrifically wrong. It’s clear there’s a booming popularity in getting picture-perfect teeth, but would you go for veneers? Does it appeal to you?Lastly, after a 6 year hiatus, The iconic display of Angels is back -The Victoria’s Secret’s catwalk show took place for the first time since 2018 - we ask, Is there a place for the Victoria’s Secret Show in 2024?English Teacher On Disney PlusBrian Jordan Alvarez XKaos On Netflix Jawbreakers Young patients want beautifully imperfect veneers. EThis week on the pod, Ruchira and Beth are taking The Substance! Taking it for a spin around the content playground, that is. We discuss whether Mubi’s latest film release is a feminist masterpiece, or just a mess of blood, guts and big fake boobs. Did we love it, hate it or rush out of the cinema retching before it was over? Listen to find out!Next up is the Kamala Harris x Call Her Daddy interview which saw the Vice President get stuck into women's issues with Gen Z podcasting powerhouse Alex Cooper. Genius masterstroke by a savvy Gen Z campaign team or potential PR disaster for everyone involved? Finally, we debate the age old internet question: should you be posting your partner on your social media or has Lana Del Rey done it right by keeping her relationship under wraps until she was halfway down the aisle? S2 Ep 9Intermezzo, thin characters & publishing unpacked
It's Sally Rooney week here at Everything is Content!Beth, Ruchira and Oenone dive into their pop culture recommendations from the week, before plunging into the biggest literary event of the year: Sally Rooney's new novel Intermezzo. So, how good is it? The girls answer that core question, and dissect just how compelling her male characters are. The chat is fairly spoiler free, but do skip onto the next segment around the 30 minute mark if you want to be extra cautious.Next-up, discourse around Rooney and her mostly thin characters was firing up the timeline even before Intermezzo dropped. Just how justified are these arguments against the alleged "great millennial writer" of our time? Finally, what can we learn from Rooney's astonishing success when it comes to publishing at large? S2 Ep 8Concert etiquette, passport bros & the Skinny Influencer
This week it’s our beloved Oenone’s turn to be ill- she was very missed but the show went on with Ruchira and Beth getting stuck into the debate about modern concert etiquette after a viral call out after a Chappell Roan gig. Are we forgetting how to behave at events or are times simply changing?Next up is Jamali Maddix’s documentary on so-called ‘passport bros’ who encourage young men to travel to South America to find better lives and better wives. A sinister male MLM in the making or just a passing fad- we discuss. And lastly The New York Times investigated a ‘Skinny Influencer’ after she was banned from TikTok for videos that some believe encourage disordered eating. Is this a move in the right direction or social media censorship? And why can't we escape the cult of thinness? This final conversation contains potentially triggering mention of eating disorders and diet culture, so please listen with care. Gorgeous babe Beth is ill this week, so Oenone and Ruchira steer the content ship into port. The pair dive into Netflix's new documentary starring funny-man Will Ferrell and his long-time bestie and collaborator, Harper Steele. The documentary makes for a tearful, moving examination of friendship, allyship, and what it means to be a trans woman in the US. Grab your tissues before watching! Next-up, Vogue dropped a new series starting with a day-in-the-life as actress, artist and it girl Jemima Kirke. At one point she writes that she's bought a kitten and is yet to deliver it to a friend. Why do we love knowing the unusual details of a celeb's life? And finally, a New Yorker piece takes a 360-view of a rising trend of people going 'no-contact' with their parents. S2 Ep 1Far-right riots, Dallas cheerleaders and the return of smut
EThis week on Everything Is Content, we thought it was about time to discuss the Netflix docu-series that everyone has been raving about for the last few weeks - America’s Sweethearts. Does the life of a cheerleader appeal to us - and does the documentary have a dark side? We also take a look at the return of smutty literature - why do we sometimes look down on the genre, and is it about time we read some? Ballerina Farm, Mamma Mia overcrowding & banned boyfriends
EHappy Olympics everyone! Despite knowing basically nothing about *actual* sport, we dive into some of our fave moments from the games so far. We also delve head first into the article that EVERYONE has been talking about this week - The Times piece about the influencer Ballerina Farm. Has this rightfully reignited the tradwife debate - or should we just leave her alone to raise her kids and milk her cows? We also want to know if you were at the open air screening of Mamma Mia that got cancelled in London last week - is recommendation culture ruining our experiences or is it just an effect of the economic crisis? Head over to our Instagram and TikTok pages @everythingiscontentpod for memes, discussions and chats - we’d love to know what you think! Have you subscribed? Septum arms, AI journalists and Kamala Harris’ brat summer
EWake up babe, new nonsense body insecurity just dropped! This week on Everything Is Content, we’re discussing the term ‘septum arms’ which was generated by the TikTok algorithm... what does this tell us about the speed of the trend cycle, and should we be concerned about the gen pop’s level of internet literacy? And, of course - we’re discussing the Kamala Harris x brat meme cycle… should we be pleased that politicians are trying to engage younger voters or is this distracting us from talking about actual policies? We also talk about Reem - Sheerluxe’s new ‘AI-enhanced’ team member… we have THOUGHTS. A lot of them. Give us a lil follow on Instagram or drop us a message if you have something you need to hear us chat about, or if you have opinions on anything you’ve heard us talk about today. Olivia Petter - author of Gold Rush and Millennial Love: Everything In Conversation
EJoin Beth, Ruchira and Oenone in conversation with the brilliant journalist, podcaster and author Olivia Petter. Olivia’s debut novel Gold Rush is out now - it’s a story about consent, celebrity culture and trying to work out where women fit in a world that constantly devalues and disrespects their bodies... sounds right up our street, eh?!We all loved the book and in this conversation we get stuck into our burning questions for Olivia - but don’t worry, the conversation is spoiler-free if you haven’t finished the book yet. As a note of caution, this conversation does contain references to sexual violence and violence against women. We have had some illness in the team this week, so thank you for bearing with us. We think you're going to love this chat - and we’ll be back with the usual this time next week!
