Jim Thorpe was a Native American of the Sac and Fox Nation. He was born in 1887 in what was then known as the Indian territory and today is known as the state of Oklahoma. He excelled at every sport he attempted, at every level he played at. He played professional football and baseball, won two Olympic gold medals, and found a place in the Football Hall of Fame. Many considered him the greatest athlete of all time, yet he died in poverty, with many of his greatest accomplishments taken from him. From July 1 through the 3rd, 1863, the largest battle in the history of the Western Hemisphere took place in southern Pennsylvania. After the battle, tens of thousands of dead were laid to rest, and an official national cemetery was established to honor the war dead. The cemetery was consecrated on November 19, 1963. During the ceremony, a short speech was given by the President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. That short speech has become the most famous speech in American history. Traveling to space is an inherently dangerous thing to do.
