Saint Valentine of Rome - the third-century Roman saint - commemorated every February 14th and associated since the High Middle Ages with the tradition of courtly love. It’s an association that’s recognised the world over. By overpriced chocolates and roses. By shoddy prose and dreadful poetry. By the notion that true love can somehow be celebrated with a greeting card.
