Earlier this month, Taiwan-based Chatime revoked the rights of its Malaysian franchise owner from operating the chain they’ve been building for 6 years. Chatime has 800 outlets worldwide, and Malaysia accounts for more than half of their turnover. In fact, some assumed Chatime was a Malaysian brand until this story broke. They now have less than 45 days to rebrand all 165 outlets, but CEO Bryan Loo is confident that Malaysian consumers will continue to give their support. However, will it be for the bubble tea we know and love or will it be for the Malaysian brand behind it? We want to hear from you. So today we’re asking: Are Malaysians supportive of Made-in-Malaysia brands? When and why would you choose to go local?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A New Post-Truth World?
Recent political developments have left commentators and analysts proclaiming that truth and facts no longer hold the importance they once had. Examples such as the Brexit phenomenon and outcome of the US Presidential Elections purportedly demonstrate that we’ve arrived at a new political climate defined by post-truth, where emotions and fear override objective facts. Oxford Dictionaries named “post-truth” as Word of the Year 2016 in response to the spike in usage of the word over the past year. Have we really arrived at a post-truth world? How did we get here, and what does this mean for the future of how we communicate? We discuss these questions with Zaharom Nain, Professor of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Nottingham Malaysia campus, as well as Michael P. Lynch, author and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Connecticut.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
