AES is a privately-financed and operated system of speed traps under the purview of the Road Transport Department (JPJ). It serves 2 functions. To catch those who drive above the speed limit and Those who beat red lights. The main aim is to reduce road accidents.
The first phase of the system was introduced on the 22nd of September with 14 units installed in Perak, Selangor, KL and Putrajaya. The plan is to cover 831 locations nationwide before the end of next year.
The system has received a host of mixed reactions, some parties criticizing it heavily while others think it’s the best thing since sliced bread. So how effective is the AES really and is it the answer to our never-ending road problems?
