As Europe’s Champions League Semifinals start today, the soccer world is still reeling from protesting fans in England. Hundreds stormed Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester on Sunday, injured police officers and led Liverpool and Man United to reschedule their game. It all stems back to a failed plan for Europe’s biggest soccer teams to form a breakaway league, that revealed team owners’ and populist fans’ diverging ideas about the future of soccer in Europe.
