How you see yourself has a massive impact on how you live your life - the choices you make, the dreams you pursue, and the legacy you leave. So I wonder: how do you see yourself? Do you believe you just happen to be alive on the earth at this moment in time? Or do you believe God created you on purpose, with a purpose, for such a time as this? Only one of those is true, and it is this: God created you with a unique purpose and put you on the earth in this generation for a specific reason - to impact your world for God’s glory. Your world may be within your family, your neighborhood, your workplace, or the actual global universe. That’s up to you and God. But he created you in his image with exactly the gifts and talents he wants you to have to serve the people around you. Do not waste a minute of your precious life thinking you don’t matter or that you don’t have what it takes to do much good. Our identity is shaped by so many things, but one significant factor is where we’re from. Our home impacts so much of how we think, act, and live. While this may be challenging from an earthly perspective if our homes are not loving places, as Christians our true homes are actually all in heaven. And this truth changes everything. When we shift our perspective from earthly to eternal, from what we see to what God sees, we can develop a true understanding of the identity God has formed in us. And when we know whose we are, we know who we are, and we are compelled to live a life that reflects God’s goodness and love in the world. Do you ever think it would be much easier just to give up on your hopes and dreams because they seem too far-fetched? Maybe you feel it was foolish to think that God would use you in a powerful way or to believe he would make a way where you can’t see one? We’ve likely all had thoughts like this at some point. And these thoughts can help us see what’s really going on: we’re relying on ourselves to make things happen in our lives instead of trusting in God. We can get so preoccupied by looking for our own answers and our own solutions, that we no longer expect them from God. Those are the times to remember that even when we can’t see a way forward that makes sense to us, God does. Because God has always been in the business of using unlikely people and unlikely things at the most unlikely times to provide for His children. He’s amazing that way. Don’t ever lose hope. And waiting on God will take us further than we could ever take ourselves on our own. So what stops us from waiting? Oftentimes, it’s impatience and selfish ambition. On the surface, we may look like we’re on track - fueled by Godly ambition - but if we’re honest with ourselves, the motivation in our hearts has gone a bit sideways. Have no doubt about this - the Enemy is on a mission to take you out. And he knows one of the quickest ways to take you out is to take your peace. So how do you fight back? How do you hold onto your peace? By protecting your heart. In today’s world, that can feel easier said than done, but there are some practical steps you can take to keep faith and peace in your heart. Create a regular habit of rest to replenish your soul. Learn to be content even while you grow into your future. Focus on the simple things - love God, love people. Stop complaining about things you can change. Disconnect every now and then - from technology, from the news, even from people you love - and spend some quality time with God. Don’t be afraid to let go of things that become unnecessary - some things are only meant for a season. What do you do when circumstances, friendship, job situations, or lost opportunities disappoint? When things don’t go our way, despite our best efforts, our natural inclination may be to try to take control of the situation. We may attempt to manage by withdrawing from life and avoiding our problems, or by striving in our own strength to make everything right. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to lay it all down and trust God to figure it out. We think if we stop trying to fix it, we’ll get trapped in it. But the truth is just the opposite. Learning to put situations into God’s hands and walk by faith - even when life is unpredictable and we can’t see the next step - makes us unstoppable for the Kingdom. In our fast-paced, instant culture, most of us really do not like waiting. And that’s particularly true when we’re waiting for direction in life, for wisdom and answers from God, isn’t it? We’re eager to get going, and anything less than getting it “right now” feels like being held back. But if we want to see the purposes and plans of God come to pass in our lives, we have to learn to live on God’s time and not our own. And that means learning to wait well. Most of the time, we think of waiting solely as something that must be endured, something we must grit our teeth to get through. And while waiting may be uncomfortable, there is a lot of growth and beauty to be found in it. Waiting on God’s direction doesn’t mean he’s silent, doesn’t mean he has left us. Even while we wait, he speaks to us—through his Word, through personal insight, and even through people and circumstances. God could download our next steps in an instant, if he chooses, but most of the time he reveals things to us little by little while we wait. And he’s growing our faith and our character in the process. So, waiting isn’t holding you back, it’s actually propelling you forward!
