Are you overwhelmed by things you can't understand? Do you long to see God intervene? Habakkuk understood that, and he gave us the principle of victory and joy in the midst of trouble. ----more---- JOURNEYING THROUGH HABAKKUK Every generation is different, and yet the needs of every generation is the same. Every generation needs a spiritual revival in their generation. I hope your heart today is hungry to see a great spiritual awakening in your own life and your family, in your church, and in our world. Because that is the desperate need of this hour. And it was a desperate need, in Habakkuk’s hour as well. We're journeying through Scripture and in this journey, we've come now to the little Old Testament book known as Habakkuk. It is a fascinating little book. It's only three chapters long, and it is set just before the attack by Babylon. Remember now God's people are about to go into captivity. They've been dealing with lots of enemies. They've been dealing with Edom, the Edomites. That was the book of Obadiah. They've been dealing with Assyria. And that's the book of Nahum. But they're dealing with Babylon, and this is the nation God chose to bring them into captivity to. And that's the nation that Habakkuk has in view. That's the circumstance that is in the context of this particular book. Now, let me remind you of something. God often uses wicked men to accomplish his purpose, but in the end, they always get their own judgment. God deals with them. So Edom, Assyria, Babylon, they're not off the hook. Oh no, God's going to deal with him as well. But right now, God is dealing with His own people. Habakkuk’s name means embracer, and it's interesting to me because he has to embrace the reality that his own nation is going into captivity, but there's something greater that he must embrace, and that is, he must embrace the promises of God at low ebb, at a difficult season in his nation. KEY VERSE He still has to believe that God is on the throne, that God has everything under control. Now, that's demonstrated in what I believe is the key verse of the book of Habbakuk. It's found in Habakkuk 2:4. See if this sounds familiar. The Bible says, “Behold, his soul which is lifted up, is not upright in him, but the just shall live by his faith.” And did you know that verse is famous? Not because it's found in Habakkuk. It's famous because it's repeated three times in the New Testament. That's probably where you've seen it. Romans 1:17. Galatians 3:11. Hebrews 10:38. But the first time it was given was in Habakkuk 2:4. The key that unlocks the blessing, the key to living in dark days, and the key to seeing revival and spiritual stirring in desperate hours is this key of faith. It unlocks Heaven's door. It brings the blessing. This particular verse becomes the basis for the Church Reformation in history. Habakkuk has even been called the grandfather of the Reformation. Theme We need faith as much in this hour as Habakkuk did in his hour. And I believe the great theme of this book is that faith has to govern every area of your life. My life verse is Galatians 2:20, where Paul wrote, “I'm crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Friend, we're all living in the flesh today. If you're breathing right now, you're living in the flesh. But don't just live in the flesh. Live by faith. It's the only way to keep your joy. It's the only way to see God in the midst of the circumstances. Habakkuk has been called by some, the questioning prophet. Someone else called him the “Doubting Thomas” of the Old Testament. He's even been referred to as the Job of the prophets. But before you're too quick to judge Habakkuk, let me tell you, Habakkuk was a holy man. He was a man who walked with God and had God's heart for his people. He was a man who was just broken over the circumstance that Judah was in, who could not quite understand and wrap his mind around what God was allowing to happen in bringing judgment. His question was this, Will God right the wrongs? You see, it wasn't just to back personal problems he was dealing with. It was a national problem that Babylon, a wicked nation, was overthrowing God's chosen people, this land of Judah. How could that be a friend? Sometimes when there's no logical answer, you have to acknowledge the spiritual answer. Features And the spiritual answer is sometimes only God has the answer. Sometimes you can't figure it all out. You can't put it all on paper. Maybe that's where you're living today. What should you do? My friend, listen to the words. “The just shall live by his faith.” One of the amazing features of the book of the book of Habakkuk is that it opens with a sob. Literally, it opens with Habakkuk, weeping over the condition of his people. Habakkuk one verse one: “The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see. Oh Lord, how long shall I c

As we journey through Exodus we discover the power of divine redemption. Only God is able, and willing, to bring us out of the bondage of sin and into true liberty and life. Transcript: "Journeying Through Exodus" “Redeemed how I love to proclaim it. Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Redeemed through his infinite mercy, his child, and forever I am.” Those were written by Fanny Crosby long ago. We love to sing them. But where can you find that truth of redemption? There is a scarlet cord woven Throughout the entire Word of God. Perhaps the fullest teaching is found in the New Testament book of Romans, but it is first introduced to us in the Old Testament. Remember that in the Book of Genesis, God killed an innocent animal to cover the nakedness of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21). Today we journey through the second book of the Bible, Exodus. What Exodus is to the Old Testament, Romans is to the New Testament - It is a revelation of what it means to be redeemed. You find in seed form this truth in the Old Testament, and then you find it in its fully developed form in the New Testament. An Overview of Exodus Exodus is an amazing book. The first six verses of Exodus 1 are really a summary of the last five chapters of the Book of Genesis. There's a natural progression here. The Book of Genesis ends with the death of Joseph, and the Book of Exodus begins with the birth of Moses. When you see the children of Israel in Genesis 50, they're living in bounty in Egypt; as the curtain lifts in Exodus 1, they're living in bondage. About 300 years lapsed between Genesis and Exodus. When the people of Israel went down into Egypt, there were only about seventy souls; 430 years later, when they went out, there were approximately 3,000,000 of them! God prospered had them, and everything God ordains Satan opposes. While the children of Israel are living in Egypt, suddenly they find themselves living in bondage. The Book of Exodus is literally the story of their exit, their departure, their deliverance, out of Egyptian bondage. And it's a beautiful picture of the redemption that is available to all of us through the Lord Jesus Christ. Redemption is the only way to have a real relationship with God. Redemption is the great theme, not just in Exodus but in the entire Bible. Redemption. The Bible says, “Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins” (Hebrews 9:22). There's no freedom apart from the shedding of the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. These Israelites were slaves in Egypt when the Lord brought them out. This act of deliverance for God's people set a pattern that is followed all the way until its perfection in Jesus Christ. The Key Verse of Exodus The key verse of the book is Exodus 12:23. We read this verse in the context of the first Passover. Now, the Jews still celebrate the Feast of Passover. Where do we even get that word, that name Passover? Exodus 12:23 says, “For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.” Did you catch the words? “The Lord will pass over.” God always either passes through or passes over. He passes through in judgment - this will be the case for every person who does not know the Lord Jesus Christ. But He passes over in mercy those who have received Christ's payment for their sins. Everybody must choose which it will be for you. Will Christ pass through in judgment or will he pass over in mercy? The Passover in Exodus In this first Passover, God required several things: They were to take a lamb from the flock. The lamb had to be a male without blemish. That's an amazing picture of the sinless Lamb of God that was to come (John 1:29, 36). Christ, who would be our full, final, and forever sacrifice for sins, a Lamb without blemish. They were to set that lamb apart on the 10th day of the month, Nisan. As we study the New Testament, we find that this is the exact day that the Lord Jesus Christ rode into the city of Jerusalem (on the 10th day of that very same month). On the day the Passover Lamb was set aside, Christ presented himself as the sacrifice for sin. They killed the lamb on the 14th day in the evening. And if you look at the timeline of the Passion week of Christ, you'll find that the Lord Jesus was crucified on that same day, on the very day the Passover Lamb was slaughtered. In the evening, in the afternoon hours between twelve and three, our Lord Jesus gave his life and shed his blood for our redemption (Matthew 17:35-54). Hebrews 12:24 says that we’ve come “to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling.” What does that mean, “the blood of sprinkling”? They were to take the blood of that lamb and sprinkle it on the doorpost. The blood had to be applied. Understand this with your heart. God said that His Son was “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world”

Transcript: "Journeying Through Genesis" "In the beginning. God created the heaven and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). We're beginning our journey through Scripture at the most obvious place; today we are journeying through Genesis. Now, there are fifty chapters in the Book of Genesis, and it covers thousands of years. So don't expect that we can cover, all of the details. All we can do is get a bird's eye view of this amazing book. The name "Genesis" literally means "beginnings". It's the beginning of the Old Testament. Genesis is the beginning of the Law of Moses or the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible). It's the beginning of all of Scripture. However, you understand that Genesis is actually the beginning of God's revelation of Himself. The name "Genesis" literally means "beginnings". However, you understand that Genesis is actually the beginning of God's revelation of Himself. How to Study Genesis Main Events There are many ways to study the Book of Genesis. For example, we could study it based on the main events found in the Book of Genesis. Genesis 1-11 covers four main events: The Creation of the World. The Fall of Man. The Worldwide Flood. The Tower of Babel, or the confounding of languages and the scattering of nations. Main Characters Then, you could go beyond the first eleven chapters. Genesis 12-50 is based on four main characters. We, refer to them as the Patriarchs of Israel - Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and then the book ends with the story of Joseph. It is my belief that the greatest way to study the Word of God is always looking for God. The Bible is God's revelation of Himself, and this Book of Beginnings gives us foundational principles about the Lord and about our own lives. I have found myself going back again and again to the first pages of Scripture because these first principles are important to us today. The nearer we get to the end of time, the more I think we need to go back to the law of first mention, to the beginning principles. The Foundation for All Scripture Everything began in the Book of Genesis - everything that is in our world except for God Himself. God transcends all. He is the eternal God; He has always been. God set everything else in motion. Overview: In Genesis 1, God creates the world. In Genesis 2, God creates the human race - that's us. Adam was formed by God's own hands. God records the establishment of marriage in Genesis 2. Marriage is God's wonderful creation, not a human idea to be neglected or destroyed. In Genesis 3 we find something God didn't create, but we find the beginning of human sin. Man rebels against God. Amazingly, in the same chapter, we find the beginning of divine salvation. God makes a way for man to be restored. In Genesis 4, we see the beginning of the family. The first children are born and seen as gifts from the Lord. In Genesis 10, we find the beginning of nations and government. In Genesis 11 we encounter the beginning of languages. In Genesis 12, we learn of the beginning of the Hebrew race through the giving of the Abrahamic Covenant. It's wonderful to see all that began in the heart of God; all that God did on the first pages of Holy Scripture. One of my favorite authors is J. Sidlow Baxter. Baxter wrote, "The major themes of Scripture may be compared to great rivers, ever deepening and broadening as they flow; and it is true to say that all these rivers have their rise in the watershed of Genesis" (Explore The Book, p.23). In other words, if you trace all of the great doctrines of the Bible back upstream, you find this fountain flowing from this Book of Beginnings. Someone has even gone so far as to say that all the major doctrines of the Bible are introduced in the first eleven chapters of the Book of Genesis. At least in seed form, you're going to find the beginning of so many wonderful things as you study the Book of Genesis. Key Verse: Genesis 3:15 I want to give you one verse today. It's not Genesis 1:1. It's found in Genesis 3. It is a key not only to unlocking the Book of Genesis but also to all that we believe from the Word of God. Genesis 3 is the first mention of the Messiah. I love this truth: It's in the context of man's sin. It's in the setting of man's fall in the garden. Do you know what the Garden of Eden is? It is a reminder that God could have forsaken his fallen creation; instead, he decided to step into it to make a
